Julian props himself up on his elbow, looking down on where Jinana is still sleeping. The dawn light is just creeping in; s/he'll want to be awake soon, to start hir day.

He is very often the one to wake hir in the morning; his own sleeping habits are so irregular that he is frequently awake both early and late, despite hir best efforts... and Heron's sleeping draughts.

Julian leans down and brushes his lips against hir temple, the shell of hir ear, and s/he stirs slightly. Smiling to himself, he leans in close enough that their cheeks just touch, and the very tips of his lashes can sweep over hir skin as he flutters them. (S/he often expresses envy at their length.)

Jinana flinches slightly, then makes a funny little sound, slowly opening hir eyes. "What are you doing?" s/he asks, hir voice husky with sleep.

For an answer, he just tickles hir skin some more, making hir giggle, then turns and presses a kiss to hir cheek. "I could crow, if you prefer," he says, and begins expanding his chest with a deep breath.

"Don't you dare," s/he warns, and he laughs.

For Marcus Aquila from Miloš: "Is there anyone special in your life?"

Marcus pauses mid sip and flushes more, though in the dim light in the dungeons beneath the Coliseum and the alcohol it might be hard to notice, "Special? Like a partner?" Ey remembers the end of eir last relationship, done in by Valdemar's frequent intrusions and lack of boundaries, ey laugh softly, "No, I've been on my own for a while now."

Ey look at Miloš and offer the flask back, "I have had my eye on someone though..."

14. Walking through the marketplace together

13. Sharing a warm drink like hot chocolate or mulled wine

It's a wonderful time to be wandering the Marketplace; everyone's finest wares are on display, in anticipation of the various winter holidays celebrated by the many cultures that make up the melting pot of Vesuvia. Arm-in-arm, Jinana and Adina stroll among the stalls and tables, examining, comparing, occasionally purchasing.

Rings are Jinana's weakness, and they come away from one particular seller with two of them - hir with a rather realistic representation of a cicada in silver, and Adina with a charming little glass frog in a gilded bezel to sit stop her finger.

They make other choices - a big bundle of soft wool dyed in brilliant colors, lengths of fabrics, bobbins of crewel and tiny glass beads and sequins for embellishing. Their chosen color schemes are gloriously different from each other, compared with great delight.

As they reach the midpoint of their circuit of the Market, the scents of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg waft to their noses, warm and appealing on this chilly day.

"My hands are almost frozen," Jinana confides. "Do you want to share a mug of mulled cider? They're very big."

At Adina's assent, s/he leads the way to where a vendor is ladling steaming-hot cider from a huge cauldron into sizeable stoneware mugs, adding a dash of apple brandy for good measure. The mug is so big that Adina can wrap her hands around it from one side, and Jinana from the other, their fingers interlaced.

They take sips from the mug alternately, laughing, loath to let go of the blissful warmth even though Jinana has to raise hir hands so that Adina can drink, and Adina must lower hers so that Jinana can drink.

Bellies warmed and spirits lifted, they continue to work their way around the Market, hands bundled together under Jinana's outermost shawl to keep the precious warmth in.

I'll let Marcus Aquila describe it:

Marcus Aquila thinks for a moment then smirks, "It happened while Miloš was still The Coliseum's surgeon. It was his birthday, we had been spending time together for a few months by that time, so I'd brought some alcohol, food, a little gift, and some extra coin to convince the guards to take a break, for the occasion."

"It sounds like a nice little set up, doesn't it? Fit for a little fun in the mostly empty Coliseum? Unfortunately, I found that he'd been locked in a cell and our dear Count had taken that set of keys with him. He ended up losing the damn things and the cell had to be broken and repaired," Ey suck eir teeth with a frown and wave a hand, "But that's another thing entirely."

Marcus pauses, recomposing emself, "I sat with him, sharing the food and drink, playing cards through the bars, and talking. It was a good time."

Ey smile fondly, then flush just slightly. "Now it's not very often that I find myself attracted to someone sexually. Sex is fun, but wanting it with someone in particular is something else entirely, but I found myself wanting that with Miloš..."

"So I sucked his cock through the bars of the cell." Ey say quickly before leaving.

I'm not sure Marcus Aquila is into having any particular music playing when ey have sex in general. In the Arcana universe what's ey gonna do? Wind up a music box? Hire a band? Both are hilarious, but I'm not sure that's eir style. I think it's more a case of what does their partner want?

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing

I definitely did not expect to write so much Marcus Aquila, lol. But ey has just sort of entrenched emself in The Gang, and ey's here to stay for the rest of the rewrite now! (Ey has a key role in at least three more upcoming Plot Blocks so far...)

8) favorite genre to write

I mean, it would be easy to say 'smut' or 'romance' and these would be true, but in the end my fave thing to write is horror. I just love getting in there and writing awful descriptions that elicit a fully visceral reaction. :D Expect at least a little of that in some chapters of ToC.

23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?

I unfortunately have a lot of experience with severe illness and pain, which means I can describe these things unpleasantly well when I want to. That's probably what led to my childhood special interests being largely scientific and medical, and that knowledge informs my writing a lot! Last but not least, the Buddhist practices that cultivate compassion can also be applied to fictional people, and I feel like that helps me write my antagonists in a more rounded, dimensional way. The bad guy is never a bad guy to themself, after all...

3. By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…”

The first time Marcus saw this bean pole of a man try to boss around a hulking gladiator easily 5x his size.

4. Does this change over time? What will always reliably make them melt with how much they adore the other character?

Honestly I think these things just start compounding as time goes by. If it's not his cockiness, it's how intense he can look when he's concentrating (with his little eyebrows all scrunched up), how well he does with Marcus' kid siblings, or how incredibly expressive his eyes can be.

5. How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

I don't feel that it takes too terribly long for Marcus to realize ey care about Miloš.

A short time after they meet Lucio orchestrates a battle royale in The Coliseum. This of course creates a scenario in which Miloš, as the surgeon for the coliseum, can be overwhelmed with life threatening injuries to treat.A decade of working for Valdemar has allowed for Marcus to pick up a strange assortment of skills. This does include being able to stitch up an open wound, so ey jump in to assist Miloš.

The spur of the moment decision surprises both of them, but it make Marcus realize ey care about Miloš and his struggles.

10. What scares them about entering a relationship?

Marcus had a lot of misgivings about relationships in general before Miloš, entering a relationship with him specifically had it's own list of associated fears though. Such as; Am I going to go looking for him at some point and Lucio has decided to kill him?

17. Under what circumstances would they want to be left alone by their partner?

I'm not entirely sure. Maybe in the aftermath of something hurtful s/he might have said or done? Heron isn't typically given to the brood in solitude mode if given the option.

30. What completely petty topic (music taste, favorite food) do they find themselves completely at odds with their partner about?

Heron likes raw banana, but Jinana doesn't. S/he hates the texture.

33. Under what circumstances would they feel jealous?

It would probably take targeted and intentional exclusion, over a decent period of time, in favor of someone Heron didn't approve of.

34. Under what circumstances would they feel protective?

Heron gets protective of Jinana when s/he starts to get overwhelmed. Lots of external stimuli at once can be too much for hir and he'll shoo people off and try to help hir get out of the area.

Heron and Ell'iandyr

(All this is in relation to Heron and non-apprentice!Ell'iandyr, so some of this is speculation. The rp isn't quite this far yet.)

1. What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re…hot…”

Heron likely always found Ell'iandyr to be attractive behind that layer of anxiety. They didn't really speak in more than a professional way for quite some time though, as Heron isn't one to push his presence on someone who doesn't appear to want it.

3. By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…”

When Heron asked about what kind of hobbies Ell'iandyr has and they lit up at the suggestion of reading. It might have been a platonic thing at the time, but that enthusiastic reaction will stick with Heron.

5. How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

It probably does take Heron a little while, since he starts from a place of relative caution. He feels he got off on the wrong foot with Ell'iandyr and crossed a boundary inadvertently through initiating contact by kissing their hand.

I imagine the realization will truly come to him in a peaceful moment, maybe observing them taking care of their familiar, or other future dependents.

Marcus doesn't like pet names that overtly gender em, and don't have preferences beyond that really.
