HAPPY BIRTHDAY - sharpstake
THANK YOUUUU
I do find it crazyinsane in the best way as well that Kamillah’s very probably namesake Carmilla is also a story connecting the suggestion of incest and sexual inclination between women to a literal vampiric predation (the entire unspoken subtext to Carmilla’s exact likeness being seen in the portraits of Laura’s ancestors and the way Laura is simultaneously repulsed and drawn to Carmilla. Also something something the way Carmilla undermines the spheres of power typically dominated by patriarchs through her relationship with Laura and disruption of her marriage prospects)

after the letsplay last october i am like 99% sure kamilah is supposed to be a reference to carmilla, there were sooo many references in the first chapter alone and andrew kept pointing them out and that basically cemented to me that kamilah = carmilla.
and REAL. i do think in some way carmilla's story was adapted in bloodbound, specifically with aiko's story where aiko can be seen as laura. the fears of women and women's relationships with each other interfering with patriarchal power systems as shown in the character of carmilla (& her relationship w/ laura), while in bb3 it's shown that aiko realized she doesn't like men and refused to take a husband as she's preparing to be the leader of the nakamura clan and no doubt her closeness to kamilah helped in that. and of course if you romance kamilah there's her choosing the female MC over her ex-fatherhusband domineering king patriarch lover. lesbians........ i love them
For the unpopular opinion ask, Endless Summer Book 3 is seriously messy pacing wise imo. Like messier than a lot of modern releases. straight up it feels as though the first couple chapters were planned with a 16-19 chapter run time only for the rest of the book to realise it had to wrap up its entire plot and character arcs with 8 chapters to go or something and it’s just. Messy. I wasn’t in fandom when the book aired so I have no idea what was happening with the writers bts, but it FEELS like a book that was pushed out the door as a result of overhead pressure so fast it’s still fundamentally a first draft

rating this with neutral because it's been years since i played ES and it wasn't super immersive to me so my memory of it is jangled lol, and i also wasn't in the fandom when it was releasing. i forgot it had 12 chapters, and i checked the wikia and apparently it went on hiatus twice?? luke not actually leaving PB being on the trivia also probably points to more problems behind the scenes.

tch duology is honestly so good and well-written, i think more people should give it a try!! i get that it was kind of riding on the acotar hype with the courts and fae, but as someone who's read the original acotar trilogy (in 2015-2017 as it came out. lord) i can say that it is leagues better than acotar. i also see more howl's moving castle influence on it.
i've seen some people not like it for the stockholm syndrome-esque trope but tch is a fairy tale surrounding fae and that's one of the conventions for that genre. i think people would be enjoying tch if they engaged more with the direction its chosen rather than getting mad it's not complying to their demands 1:1. i love the way tch 1 works more as a fairy tale and works with its conventions, because then the deconstruction of it in book 2 works and feels earned, similar to how blades 2 works because it builds on themes established in blades 1. also the "bdsm" scenes.. well idk if people don't like that they can just not pick those options and you'll get a pretty fine story either way.
while i do like kieran, i'm not super attached to them as an LI. but this also doesn't really hinder my enjoyment of tch because it's a well-written story even if i'm not crazy over the LI's romance.
also - the themes absolutely fuck?? the question on being a monster and being loved for it anyway, transgender longclaw, criticism of the courts and oppressive structures which keep people out... i eat that shit up.

Also not to add onto ur tags abt the qb post, but tch mc’s kindness is like. doubly appropriate as a narrative feature given the genre conventions of fairytales??? Like it boggles my mind somewhat that this critique is made when per these genre conventions, kindness is utilised as a hallmark of virtue within the genre. Also blah blah blah makes the elements of genre deconstruction happening in tch2 doubly effective - sharpstake
right?? also maybe slightly related but i saw some complaints on kieran taking MC without their permission etc but also.. tch is a fae story? like cmon let's be real here 😭 it's like watching a horror movie advertised as a horror movie then getting mad that it has unsettling elements. so many players just get mad when MC doesnt 100% do what they would've done and it's ridiculous at times.
Unironically the finale of qb2 was one of the funniest pieces of satire ever to me - sharpstake
ON GOD?? ok i will be playing diligently LOL
