#195: Stay at Mohonk Mountain House

Mohonk Mountain house is located in New Paltz, NY, a very reasonable day trip from Albany. This is a spectacular, drop-dead gorgeous resort and spa located on top the Shawangunk Mountains. It was just named the #1 best Resort Spa in the US (2013) by Conde Nast Magazine...a pretty damn impressive award!

A night at this amazing place will set you back some $450 (depending on day of the week, season, etc), so it's not for the weak at heart or poor of pocketbook. That being said, for a fee, you can still use the amenities at the hotel without actually booking a room there. (Fees depend on what you want to do there.)

The resort has a TON of activities on hand for both overnight guests and day guests, including:

Yeah....so you won't be bored by a stay at this resort, that's for sure.

For overnight guests, the price includes three meals and afternoon tea.

(You can ask them to pack you a picnic as well, if you want to go on a hike.)

The resort itself was built by Quaker brothers between 1979 and 1910. t has 259 guest rooms including 28 tower rooms. The resort has 2,200 acres of land, much of it taken up by gardens. Famous guests of this hotel have included: John D Rockefeller, John Burroughs, Andrew Carnegie, as well as Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Taft, Hayes, and Hayes.
