this aint my thing normally but i think my girlfriend is gonna break my legs if i don’t post this so. well here it is

"Yeah Root, maybe someday" is not a polite rejection or a soft no, for Shaw it's about as close as one can get to a grand declaration of love. Because of the way her brain works, people have made her feel like an outlier of the human condition. 

She's fired as a doctor because she does not feel the same way that others do, even Finch and Reese who love shaw try to get her to give up a mission because there is a child involved and there is something so deeply human in Razogover that we don't see before; the fact that though Shaw's feelings are muted, they are as real and complex and crucial to her character as anything else. And people don't get that about her. 

But root does. Root sees that and doesn't think she can change shaw or that she is flawed. She refers to Shaw as an arrow. And that it's what makes her beautiful. So when shaw says maybe someday, it's as muted as everything else about her. It's more complex than the other times she has brushed off roots advances. It's her saying when everything is over and the world is done burning maybe there's a place for you and me

That's a simulation, sure, but it's verbatim what she would have said if The Machine’s other plan wasn't a failure. Simulation shaw is just as realistic as real shaw. And then irl instead of telling root no, shaw says "you and i would be a four-alarm fire in an oil refinery" in other words: a bad idea. She clearly wants to, but her own reservations hold her back from letting root in. 

And then root says "sounds cozy." Because shaw can always count on root saying the thing she's not expecting. Shaw is saying the way she feels about root is dangerous and vivid and deep and everything shaw is unaccustomed to.

 then root stops her from sacrificing herself. And shaw kisses her . the kiss is multifaceted. It represents both Shaw's need to sacrifice herself to know that the others are safe AND, it is also a kiss goodbye. She's sure she's about to die so she allows herself, for once, to express her feelings. And then the simulations happen. And shaw lets herself be with root only in her own mind. Root is, in Shaw's own words, her safe place. And shaw will always love her

Root’s eyes sparkled as she pulled Shaw’s hand away, instead interlocking their fingers. “Don’t worry, I’ll tell you later, John.”

“You will not,” Shaw growled.

John grinned a little as Root laughed and cuddled up to Shaw, the assassin relaxing against her girlfriend despite her professed annoyance. He took a sip of his scotch. He knew he’d never tell them, but he was really glad they’d found each other.

ur girl finally finished person of interest and 

I’m not generally personally victimised by the kill ur gays trope. Sure, I wish it happened less, but controversially I prefer it to what seems to be the new hotness, which is gay relationship no drama: only the dullest, most inoffensive bland “love story” the writers can get away with (see: how much I hated the back half of yuri on ice). I want my gay relationships to be like straight relationships in fiction: conflict! misunderstanding! being endgame! I want all the hits. I want them to be the centre, the emotional heart of the story.

Root and Shaw are basically the closest I’ve ever got to the platonic ideal of a non-platonic lesbian relationship on tv. It was like a trope pile up: Take psychopaths in love plus you and me against the world plus heavy affectionate flirting and mix in now or never kiss and i dont know what is real and the constant and I just want my beloved to be happy and about 20 other things that are SO GOOD FOR ME and then had Shaw sacrifice herself to save them and there’s a big damn kiss and then MOURNING and TENSION and then new york loft aggressive banging it was all a dream...

and then it wasn’t a dream, and there was some soft sad hurt comfort and then the plot happened...

AND THEN THEY KILLED ROOT. I don’t think I’ve been this furious since Trinity died in the matrix revolutions and honestly, that was worse because I was 17 and very, very invested. But now I’m 31 and capable of recognising fiction and tropes and plot devices (THOUGH WAS IT REALLY NECESSARY).

ALSO none of the fic seems to be good and I am furious because now I have to write another of my SAD LESBIAN stories and I’ve already got two as WIP and I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THESE FEELS.

Does anyone know of any fics where Kelli Jiao/Lin (from that Gutenberg bible heist episode) meets up with Shaw later on and Root gets really jealous?
