SHAY J - "MOREHOUSE COLLEGE" [MUSIC]

Shay J is an artist out of Atlanta by way of Palm Beach. Throughout the years, Shay has released a number of records from primarily solo efforts such as Lost in a Vast Abyss of Hip Hop to releases with other artists from the area (The Huey vs Riley EP as well as a variety of singles with artists like Sean Buck). With a style that is often reminiscent of early OutKast or Big K.R.I.T., Shay clearly embodies the Southern voice, and although I hate using the phrase "conscious rap", I have trouble picking out any other way to describe it. Essentially, what you need to know is that with Shay J's music, you're not sacrificing quality writing and an honest voice, nor are you bypassing superior beat selection; you tend to get the whole package.   "Morehouse College" is a single Shay J released over a Harry Fraud beat (you may know it from Riff Raff & Action Bronson's "Bird on a Wire", although if I'm being honest, "Morehouse College" outdoes the original). Of all of Shay's tracks I've ever heard, this is probably my favorite. What really appeals to me is the fact that this track feels like one long verse thanks to the absence of hooks. I think hooks in hip hop are incredibly hard to nail, and really, the meat of the content is in the verses anyway, so why not skip hooks all together? This track accomplishes that to perfection.

Searching to find the source of my natural highs when unable to intertwine with like minds who may be able to help me filter these collections of letters in the form of letters layering themselves in the many corners of my mental. Muscle relaxers can't relax the dissatisfaction from searching for a metaphysical energy that is never enough.

...I was born to run. It is the source of my exercise from my mind all the way down to my problems typically used as a precursor to escaping....escaping reality searching for more when purely existing can be more profound than living.

I'm infatuated with something I know nothing about yet the belief of its existence is vivid.

I'm in a toxic relationship with my ideas. They suffocate me daily.
