Does the king actually love Lain? Or does he just say that as manipulation. I see it as both, he loves him but cares for his own goals more.

The King does love Lain, yeah, and he is also manipulating him, but I don't entirely see it as him "caring for his own goals more". I don't think he would've put this much effort into Lain if he did actually care about his goals more. He let Lain gain a very high rank at a very young age for no other reason than he wants Lain close. Doesn't sound like the action of someone who's more focused on the war front.

Lain makes him feel wanted and loved in a way the rest of the army doesn't due to their personal connection. Other people admire him, but Lain loves him. Which is why he switched from "Tough Top Dog Military Man" routine to "weird parental grey area" talk with Lain once they were alone. It's to make that personal connection clear, and to keep Lain close to him.

oughh I know Frost is meant be portrayed as a coward in this specific scene, and I wouldn’t doubt that he is one, but his reaction felt like it was a mix between cowardice and a genuine panic attack. Especially when he froze up the very second he saw Condor.

this guy has ptsd me thinks,, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised considering the horrible war the King put everyone through

People who go into wars get ptsd no matter what, it's why most people see it as the "veteran mental illness." but also, Frost is a coward who loves to get on other people's asses about how to handle being a soldier/leader (Lain) but when push came to shove he wasn't able to keep it together either, and would rather leave his soldiers to die than fight along side them. If someone else pulled what he did, he would be heavily criticizing them to hell and back and calling them a coward.

The stuff with Condor knowing how king cats fight was not intentional but that is a very fun read and I like that analysis a lot! Dude really just likes to throw his bodyweight around.

He is just a silly background character who I made up on the fly to fill a specific character mold, so I didn't expect anything like this to happen lmao.

Delusional is not the word I would use. I don't particularly like to call a person in an abusive situation delusional. In denial/trying to convince himself that it's normal as a survival tactic is better.

I’ve been thinking, since Mariner speaks on the muses of life or vaguely and uses subtle gestures to show his emotions. Would he be willing to abuse his new found power as king? By reading the description of his character sheet, his speaks have gotten darker after Canary died, but would he break his morals or stick the beliefs he enjoys following?

I guess you'll just have to wait and see -wink-
