And what has more beauty than a rainbow? What else covers a spectrum of colors so vividly and naturally? What other naturally occurring phenomenon takes peoples breath away just after the destruction of storms and lightning that made people cower in fear?
Light from the sunshine and water of the oceans holding hands to illuminate the sky with art; to free to be imitated on paper or in a photo.
And almost everyone will tell you rainbows are soft, and gentle, and pretty, and delicate.
They will tell you rainbows were originally a sign of a promise or beauty after a storm.
But the truth is that lately the rainbows have had to fight for their existence. Being told that it’s not natural, or that it’s a monstrosity, and that it should think of the kids before presenting itself in public.
As if rainbows simply choose to appear one day, as it if doesn’t naturally occur in the world. As if it can choose to be a cloud, or a drop of rain falling from the sky, as if it can hide itself from the land that it hovers over.
But still, the rainbow shines knowing full well that no one has the right to tell nature how to be itself. No one has the right to call a rainbow anything besides beautiful, because in truth, it is simply reflecting the most basic things we search for in life.
Some say that the image has been corrupted, that it is supposed to remind us of a promise of love.
- But as for me, I think it still does...
And maybe some loves last as long as they need to, some flowers speak in melting plastic as we mix summer nights into growth. some blues are made of eyes, silences that sting hips where we used to dance, a pregnant chorus that swells at the base of your throat.
It’s okay to feel far away from others, as long as you’re closer to yourself. your smile and the moon do the exact same thing to my heart - every star in the sky is your existence. there are a lot of things I can’t live without, and darling, you are all of them.
- You’re already art, I just want to make your colours drip.
