Here are some of our favorite moments from SESSIONS live painting event with Sheefy McFly. We caught up with Sheefy to find out more about his live mural, the inspiration behind it, and what he has coming up next!

Introduce yourself. My name is Sheefy McFly and I’m from Detroit, Michigan. I am a Renaissance Man (Artist, Muralist,  DJ, Rapper, Producer, Influencer, Trendsetter). 

Describe your finished mural from SESSIONS. What was the inspiration behind it?  The mural I painted for the event is called “Coney Grind”. I drew my infamous Coney Dog character skating in some Vans around the city. The inspiration behind it is trying to find a fun mesh between Van shoes and the city of Detroit.

What do you love about creating a live mural?  The energy from the audience, it’s almost like rapping onstage but more intuitive. It feels like viewers are in a trance watching a movie or something.

Who are some Detroit artists folks should check out? What's the best part about the art community in Detroit? Check out @artbyphillipsimpson, @x__jimbo, @count_mack, @artnuttz, @tonyrave, @breegant and @sydneygjames just to name a few.... 

What’s best about the Detroit Art Community is that we are forced to be great here because we have no outlets; however, the love that is shared between artists here pushes us to become the most influential creatives in the world.

Do you have any projects in the works that you can share with us?  I’m doing a residency program with the city of Detroit called “City Walls.” For this I will be painting 10 murals around Detroit this Spring - Fall. 

What are your favorite words to live by? 

Vita Brevis Longs Ars (Life is short, but art is forever).
