98 for the kissing prompts .///.
All right, here ya go!
98: “let’s just kiss to see what it’s like” then pulling away, lingering for a moment, then going in for the second kiss
It was the first quiet afternoon in ages. Aqua was just happy to get a chance to breathe, and even happier for some free time before the sun set. Luckily, she would get a nice view of it from her seat on the courtyard.
“What are you thinking about?”
She turned to her companion. It still felt like a shock having Vanitas there with her and have neither of them fighting. His golden eyes were turned to her, and there was something quizzical within them.
“Not much,” she answered, letting her hand rest on her palm. It was strange seeing him so attentive. His gaze drifted across her expression and she wasn’t sure he believed her.
Maybe she was lying. Maybe he was just far more perceptive than she thought. The truth was there had been something on her mind for ages.
Something in his expression shifted, and it wasn’t long before his mouth curled into a sly grin.
“Well, I sure hope you’re not keeping things from me. Weren’t we supposed to be more open?”
Her mind snagged on the sight of his grin. His mouth.
Aqua swallowed. Maybe this was pushing a boundary. But there was just something so frustratingly alluring about him sometimes.
At least, that’s the excuse she had when she felt herself leaning forward.
He hadn’t moved. But she knew he had gone remarkably still.
“What are you doing?”
His voice was soft, almost scared. Aqua had to summon her courage.
“Do you… ever wonder what it’d be like to kiss?”
Saying he looked surprised was an understatement. But the blush on his cheeks was more welcome than expected.
“W-what the…” he choked out. “Why are you asking something like that?”
Aqua shrugged, feeling her own nerves start to get the better of her.
“I don’t know. I was just curious.”
“It’s a pretty messed up thing to be curious about.”
Something in her heart clenched painfully at hearing that, but Vanitas already looked on the verge of backtracking.
“No, that isn’t what I meant!” he began. “Look, let’s just kiss to see what it’s like, okay? Then you’ll see how messed up it is that you wanna do it with me.”
Aqua stared at him. That was almost a yes, right? It meant she had permission.
“Okay,” she swallowed. “Just a little bit.”
He didn’t reply, but she could see him start to lean in. She did the same.
When her lips brushed his, she could already feel her breath being taken away. They were connected only by the lightest touch, yet it was enough to fill her stomach with butterflies.
He was careful. He kissed like he was unsure, like he didn’t know whether she would pull away any second. Maybe to reassure him, maybe as part of her own selfish needs, she pressed her lips into his just a little more. It was still relatively chaste; she didn’t want to push him any more than necessary.
The moment stretched on, but she eventually pulled away. She expected him to say something snarky after that, maybe even leave, but he still hovered close by. Too close.
She glanced at his face. His eyes were still trained on her lips. She could feel his breath and she wanted to chase it again.
When their lips met a second time, she was far less careful. They met somewhere in the middle, almost clumsy in the way they dove to each other. He was far bolder now, and when he nipped at her bottom lip it was enough to make her head spin. The butterflies were raging at full force, compelling her to move herself closer. He was more than happy to receive her as she fell into his waiting arms.
Just the feeling of him surrounding her was something she knew she would never tire of.
It was only when the need for air became too much that they broke apart. Both of them panted. Both of them studied the other.
Aqua was the first to speak.
“That… wasn’t messed up at all.”
Vanitas was still catching his breath. He looked like he was fighting with himself about whether to dive in again.
“It… is. A little.”
Aqua placed her hand on his cheek, watching as his eyes widened.
“Then I’ll have to keep kissing you until you believe me.”
