violent, emotional, & family headcanons.
violent headcanon
The reason Magnus has never shied away from brutal, savage methods to achieve his goals is due to being so incredibly desensitized to such actions during his time in Auschwitz. Having seen what sadistic punishments Nazis could develop, he considers his own methods relatively civilized. Furthermore, he came to the realization that the only way to fight against brutality was not with words and peace, but with brutality in kind.
emotional headcanon
After losing Magda, Magnus coped with such severe losses by isolating his emotions in an attempt to remove them more or less entirely. He takes out those emotions only upon demand (or so he would like to think), thinking himself beyond love, or rather, unable to be loved, due to both his inner nature and status as Mutant. Further-- while he has had intimate relationships since his time with Magda, he has never allowed himself to fully succumb to the emotions involved there, so as to allow himself to extricate himself from the relationship painlessly, should it prove less than advantageous for his ideals.
family headcanon
Having been denied the chance at family and the resulting familial bonds no less than three times, he has desperately tried to suppress the need or desire for familial relationships. Perhaps unfortunately for him, he has not been able to; it is extremely difficult for him to view Pietro, Wanda, and Lorna as anything but his children, his responsibilities, his proteges. It will always pain some part of him that they have each, in turn, denied him the chance to properly be a father.
