I’ve been looking at Giovanni for more than 25 years. It seemed like a good profile to attempt. This tricky part is leaving the glasses raised and then removing material from around them.

If learning to do cameos I recommend conchshell. Once you take the warty outside layer off the material is ‘soft’ enough to use hand tools with. There is less polishing than with stone–you can rub your cameo away with too much polishing or touching.

I’ve learned that you should cut out your cameo shape first, then remove warty material, and then carve.

Hippogriff Cameo, learning how to make feathers

Ok this was fun to make It wasn’t small, probably 5 cm * 4 cm, and not a person who can get mad at me if the beak is too big. The feathers were the gleeful learning experience for this guy.
