12 on the old angst-o-meter
I’m such a sucker for fluff, that sometimes I forget that some of the best experiences of fic are a bit darker than that. One of the most involving phenomena currently on my calendar is the paired Between the Fall and the Creation (by 7PercentSolution and shelleysprometheus, updates every Friday) and In Madness Lies Sanity (by @7-percent, updates every Saturday).
These two fics are each other’s negatives: the first tells a story from John & Sherlock’s perspective, while the second tells the same story from Sebastian Moran’s. Sherlock and John, Moriarty and Moran, are mirror couples, and of course there are, there have to be, twins somewhere. Given what a Johnlocker I am, what’s impressive to me is how much these writers make me care about Moran and wonder about Moriarty.
These fics have everything: rounded (and morally ambiguous) characters; atmosphere and energy; excellent writing; and (inevitable, with these two writers) an inventive and absorbing plot. The tags alone are incentive enough:
