Black, white, lime. :)
black: your dreams! be published, be a critical success? what?
Baby steps! I've technically been published, but not on the level I'd like to be. My ultimate desire is to know that my writing has stimulated some sort of intellectual benefit for the reader (this is broad, as it can range from simply inspiring the reader to read more, to having a conversation about the work with another person). Being an author/playwright/screenwriter is not my priority in life, but I do have a feeling that my writing skills are going to be at the crux of my future career plans.
white: weirdest thing you’ve ever written
So... one summer when I was in high school, my friend and I each wrote these elaborate telenovela-styled stories. They were absolutely ridiculous (we covered it all: memory loss, pregnancy scares, ex-lovers conflicting with current lovers, children with un-clear parent genealogy! It was fabulous).
We'd each improvise a chapter at a time and stay up to the wee hours of the morning sending lines to each other over AIM/iChat. This went on for close to 2 months. We wrote two "novellas" each. The content itself wasn't weird, but the structure we upheld had a wild dynamic. It was inspiring, but most definitely weird. I know it may not seem like something I legitimately wrote, but I actually did! I'd spend my days thinking of crazy plot twists-- it made me excited to write.
I wish we saved all of the conversations because those stories were on point.
lime: what are some of the most prevalent themes in your work?
Identity issues. I can rifle through my poetry and stories from as far as middle school and that is a theme that shows up in my writing (wild, eh?).
