Chapter 8 of sh’ma
(Otherwise known as another 13k of me being Jewish on main).
Was reading the latest chapter of Sh’ma and I loved it, per usual. Would love to know your stance Gaza? The mention of Israel in the last chapter had me curious.
Okay, so here’s the thing — (I’m using your comment as a talking point, I’ve had a lot of people asking). I think the geopolitics are confusing as fuck, so I won’t go into specifics. BUT as a morality point, as a human being, I support EVERYONE getting to be safe, to worship, to live, to love and be loved in their homeland, however that looks. I don’t support violence, I don’t support brutality and I think we’re too fucking advanced as a civilization to be hurting one another like this.
But, as a Jewish person, I don’t feel comfortable discussing anything here. No matter what I say, I’m going to be wrong. I am wrong because I’m Jewish. That simply is.
Feel free to ignore this little story ramble: it just rubbed me wrong that all these questions are directed about Sh’ma. I write Jewish characters all the time, but Sh’ma in particular is a fanfic that is actually a thinly veiled way for me to discuss the fact that my body is failing so young when our ethnoreligion puts such a stress on growing old and leaving a legacy. It is also me contending with the fact that my little siblings’ bodies are failing faster than my own. Parenthood is a big feature in Sh’ma because I’m worried about my parents existing in a world without their children.

Also, I was listening to “In The Bedroom Down The Hall” from DEH and thinking about Jack and Robby singing it about their sick kid and I am UNWELL. So I made a picture textpost thing below.
