I also loved the gameplay and setting but found myself uninterested in aspects of the story. You know what would have helped? If we had seen Jesse and Dylan back in Ordinary. Whether as a flashback, dream, the oldest house fucking with them etc. Seeing them interact as siblings prior to the events of the game would have gone a long way. Would also give is more insight into Jesse - seems to be her only meaningful relationship in life is with Polaris and she’s awfully trusting of its intentions.
Agreed. I get the impression that they’re not terribly interested in that aspect of their own story, which is really unfortunate, or they’re committed to housing the entirety of the game within the Oldest House which like...thematically I get, but there’s ways around that, y’know? A little more time spent in the mock up of Ordinary or the town’s dump, some creative usage of those projectors that are lying around - something that could be handwaved as either a symptom of the weird going around or just Jesse projecting both literally and figuratively onto the situation - anything that’d help that out. But again, I don’t feel like that’s what they’re going for. I think maybe there’s some deliberate moves there to make Dylan as alien to the player as he is to Jesse now, to show just how far apart they’ve grown in seventeen years while Polaris stayed with Jesse and Dylan had the Bureau and the steadily-growing whispers of the Hiss all around. (Something else I’d like from them is a goddamn timeline - just how long was Trench infected before it finally hit critical, and how big of a part did Dylan play in ‘assisting’ Trench in opening the door?)
Still, I agree, I would love to get a little deeper into the characters while we dig deeper into the Oldest House. I won’t hold my breath on that, but we can always hope.
Either way I’m sure the dlc will be fun.

What’s in a Biotic Kick?
THIS IS A BIOTIC KICK
What has Mattel done with the American Girl line in recent years? I had Kirsten as a kid and loved reading all her books!
Oh my gosh I loved Kirsten.
Looks like Mattel is more focused on selling dolls and not education, sadly. They’ve cut out most of the books and accessories, so rather than create rich characters and place them within a historical context that works hard to really teach you what that time period is like, it’s now just...hey, here’s a doll and her name is X.
When the dolls were made by the Pleasant Company, each book didn’t just tell a story, it taught you about the struggles those girls faced in that time period. Even the accessories and outfits you could buy had some historical meaning and context that was represented in the books - so it was like having visual aids to help reinforce details about the time period. It was all so thoughtful, and it resonated. I still remember so many of those details decades later.
Alas.

I thought that show ended?
The last 7 eps of the show were delayed because COVID impacted filming schedules. It’s on hiatus right now and will finish in I think November?
Fandom is on Sensitivity Overdrive and the cast and crew (mostly the crew) are getting punchy on social media. Presumably because, now that the job is almost wrapped (and a lot of their part of the job is officially done and now it’s down to the editors and stuff), they feel either ready to move on or sick of keeping their mouths shut about the parts of the SPN fandom that they don’t love.
I’m pro-fandom in general, I do still like Supernatural, but god damn this fandom is so, so sensitive anytime a member of the crew breathes or maybe implies that Destiel “isn’t canon” or “isn’t real” or that they don’t 100% adore the fandom at large. The loudest people take absolutely everything really hard and really personally and it’s why I stepped away from the fandom in general. I just don’t get that level of invested in media anymore?
Anyway Mitch Kosterman -- who is, as far as I can tell, not even an employee? of the show??? I think he’s Jensen and Jared’s bodyguard’s brother -- was on twitter and said like... the actors think RPF is creepy and weird and they hate it, and kind of equated it to slash shipping in general, and it’s tacky and sloppy but not actually coming from the mouth of someone with any authority on the show. He made a movie called “Supernatural Fandom” that I don’t remember the context of but he’s not like... employed by the CW.
And that’s an issue with this fandom lol, they end up closely following people who are waaaay away from any seat of power (like the fucking Kostermans, people take Clif so seriously about fandom, he’s just a bodyguard and the fandom fluffed his ego real hard) and then having a whole Thing about what they say.
It’s dumb. It’s so dumb. I cannnot wait to stop hearing about these people.

Out of curiosity, what was the fandom you’re no longer active in? This makes me want to clear out all of my spam followers haha
Legend of Korra. Not that I don’t still love ATLA and LOK! I was just only active in the fandom for like... a month, and then went right back to Bioware/SPN shit.
And now I’m not active in SPN either lol.

:I'm super excited but also pretty scared... I just want the bbys to be happy (though I know what happens) =(
I mean they’ll be..... happy.......
they’ll just be unhappy, too, it just comes with the territory 😮 (but lbr like... for both of them, I don’t think they could be satisfied with a relationship that didn’t have innate conflict... these kids r damaged)
