Omg yesssss!! Lamb and Veronica! Head canon that they were friends before the whole lily thing!! I see it too😝

I 100% headcanon they were friends before the Lily stuff and before Keith was voted out of office. Keith seems like the kinda guy who'd have hosted backyard BBQs and cook outs with his deputies. Imagine Lamb as a young deputy fresh off his tour in Afghanistan and trying to fit back into polite society attending BBQs and dinners at the Mars house and there's innocent, sweet, naive pre-Lily's murder Veronica being all polite and nice to him while he gently flirts to make her blush. I headcanon she had a puppy crush on him before she and Duncan happened.

I also headcanon that it was Lamb who taught V to play poker.

100 Days of Trump, Day 40: Veronica Mars

Welcome back to 100 Days of Trump where I recommend 100 Works to help explain WTF happened in 2016, and today is a big one, Veronica Mars.  If I did a condensed version of this project and could only recommend 5 works rather than 100, Veronica Mars would be on this list (along side Assassins, the Wire, Marat/Sade, and I Claudius), seriously this is massively important show to watch to understand WTF our country has come too, because yet again, this didn’t happen in a vacuum, Trump/Brexit is only possible if longer standing problems have been ignored for decades.  And Veronica Mars hits that right on the head in the biggest way possible, because this show is about class in America, and the complete hypocrisy of our economic system.  Lets have the show speak for itself.

   Normally I don’t talk about the quality of the work outside its relevance to the larger political point, but seriously, this show is fantastic, and sadly unappreciated, the first season of this show is almost perfect, the second season while flawed (hey I do a review show on that) has some of the best moments on Television, this is worth your time (maybe not Season 3 though).  Anyways, so this series is kinda a spiritual squeal to Chinatown and doesn’t that tell you everything you need to know, its about the inherent problem of America built into the foundation, in particular the way we view privilege.  Neptune is a town where the rich go to live among other rich people, so you have a lot of million to billionaires combined with a large population of lower class people who work as their domestics, with our protagonist being part of the tiny middle class that exists between them.  And the show made to great choices to illustrate America, it is a detection story so we can see underneath the facade of Neptune.  

(Sadly any clip I post reflecting that would be a spoiler so here is a clip about one of the worse experiences people can have at school) 

    The second choice was to set it in a high school, because that is where the kids of the big players in town are forced to actually hang out with each other, and the amount of conflict that comes out of that is really telling.  The rich and the poor are in this constant class warfare but they also inevitably make friends, date, hang out, and this is the real brilliance of Veronica Mars, it isn’t a Marxist allegorical class conflict narrative with the rich people embodied in 4 antagonistic assholes oppressing the lower class person (who will inevitably be wearing overhalls and a cap), the show shows pretty much everyone as a human being with like...human qualities.  They are people, people who just live as part of a larger system and interact with a larger world, and if we forget the humanity in people, we lose any ability to change the world around us. 

The show is also a great story about how to respond to an unfair system, and the focus on how living in this reality does to your psychology, both as the privilege, the under privileged or the many people who are mixed in some capacity.  Sadly the best clips I could show out of context aren’t on youtube, and those that are.....spoilers, so let me just say this, if you want to understand the type of world that is necessary to  make Trump’s victory possible, watch the first two seasons of Veronica Mars.

The end of the season two episode “Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner” gives me chills every time. Perfect song choice, Lamb sitting threateningly in his cruiser outside of the house is just *chef’s kiss* they could have really spun that into a redemption arc, but instead they decided to give us background on a character and then never touch it again.
