Post series 4, do you think John and Rosie Watson return to 221b Baker Street, or do they remain living elsewhere? I like the idea of our crime solving duo residing together and Sherlock teaching young Watson the ways of deduction, how to use a microscope, etc. Mrs Hudson would love it, don’t you think? :)
Well, we haven’t written any of that yet. Originally, they lived together because they couldn’t afford homes on their own. Now John’s a GP, and Sherlock is the MOST FAMOUS DETECTIVE IN THE WORLD. And the most likely to throw a crying infant out the window.
How much of Sherlock did you already have in mind before starting to shoot the first episode?
All 60 stories. As we regarded it as a restoration more than an update, Doyle was our bible.
Why the long break between each season? I've always wondered.
As Wilkie Collins said: make them cry, make them laugh, make them …………… wait.
Did you feel intimidated to take on such a classic source material and reinvent it in such a unique way? Did it feel like a natural direction to go, or were you wary about how carefully you needed to handle the material, especially given it's popularity and past incarnations?
We were just excited that we got to have go. And we approached it in the spirit of Doyle, and his famous telegram to one of his first adapters, William Gillette. ‘You may marry, murder, or do what you like with him.“
Is John Watson the author of series 4?
No. We are. Please read the credits. Also John is a made up person. Unlike at least one of us.
