The majority of my new job entails me going to all sorts of events around Amsterdam and the greater area. I really couldn't label it a job as it is for a great cause and I get to do what I love most; create art and help our surrounding world in making it. Luckily for me, I got a pass to the sold out Sonic Connections music festival, taking place in de Brakke Grond this weekend. To be quite honest, I had never heard of any of the bands on the line up, which sometimes is the best part of going to these type of things. Anyways, after seeing several great acts, I finally got a break from my "job" and managed to see Daily Bread in all their glory. Now you might think I'd be lying here but honestly, they were one of the best shows I've gone too in quite some time. Perhaps I'm being biased as I'm a closet indie/new wave lover, so hearing this genre live was more than a treat for my ears. My eyes, along with the rest of the crowd's, were glued to the lead singer as though she were some type of saviour. Her long, diamond white hair swayed as she moved to the sound of the bass kick. During their encore, it was apparent that they were my new favourite band. The only thoughts racing through my mind were, "Do they tour? I need to see them again" and "I need to meet these people after the show." Unfortunately, my boss came in during the last song of their set, reminding me that I needed to collect numerous doodles back in the lobby. So, after watching an amazing set, I went back to my "job" keeping an eye on the band's booth. Once everything was done, I rushed over to the band right before they were about to leave. Now, if you can imagine those 8 year old girls standing in front of Justin Beiber, then you have a pretty accurate picture as to what I looked like, standing in front of Daily Bread. I was more than ecstatic to meet them and, I would like to thank them for giving me their new album and poster! The video posted, isn't even close to how interactive the atmosphere was last night. A couple of my pals got the crowd dancing and the environment quickly turned from awe-inspiring, to a scene out of Dirty Dancing... without the sexualized dance moves.
