Standing on the deck, whilst the cool morning breeze brushes against my face. Trying to stay silent within my thoughts, knowing that the sun is just moments from waking. The sound of the loud engine pushing the young ferry across the canal. Surrounded by the few souls, who look either entirely exhausted or readily awake. The seagulls are filling our ears with their morning cries, letting us know that the moonlight will soon be demised, by the early morning sunrise. The ferry docks, I rush to the old refurbished boat that now holds a spot for my body to lay on, while together we gaze in awe waiting for the Sun's rays to beam on my clammy face. At last, the warmth of the rays reach up from the bottom of my soles to the top of my nose. I made it. I finally stayed up all night, in the city of sin, waiting for something so peaceful to arrive and meet me for our first sunrise together. I took one last sip of my Jack and Coke, and took a deep breath, breathing in all the happy breaths I could. I had never experienced anything like it previous to this moment. The boats sailing through the choppy murky water, the seagulls obstructing my view, and the royal blue sky being graced with the gorgeous morning rays of the canary painted sun.
Memories, I've realized are both the enemy and the saviour to our minuscule lives, we all lead. Who allow's us to rely on memories so heavily, who was it that told us to "remember the good times" or to "forgive but never forget." These phrases, these words, these memories, they have ruined civilians by torturing us in knowing that we may never be able to experience something as great, or as terrible as these ideas we hold so dear to our hearts. How is it that, we are able to have these once occurring moments, embedded into our brains? How do we allow ourselves to constantly be in a game of tag, with them? Who knows, really. What I do know is that memory, experience and coincidence are all ideas that our thoughts provoke and entertain, like tamed lions in a circus. We toil with them in a way where many begin to rely on or the latter, begin to forget about. Many have learnt ways of erasing these things from our minds, however, they haven't always learned how to patch up all the cracks...
Sorry for the dawdling amongst my thoughts, it was hard not to dabble within them, as this video provoked so many emotions. In other words, watch it as the story line is an impeccable choice to accompany Kodaline's High Hopes track. It was released last January, however I still enjoy it. Enough with my words, just take a listen already.
