Spent my last full day in Shetland meeting up with new friends from Minnesota. We spent a good chunk of time at the #shetlandwoolweek2019 Makers' Market, where many locals were selling handmade goods and yarn. Check my Stories for more from the Market. We had a lovely lunch @thedowryshetland, walked around Commercial Street, and ended up back at the SWW Hub for tea and knitting. Sad to be leaving, but also excited to be heading home. It was great fun today to tour the isle of Bressay with native Shetlander Douglas Courts. I had a later start for Thursday's #shetlandwoolweek2019. I attended a lunchtime talk about the Shetland dialect, but was excited for my evening: a Lerwick walking tour that ended with a taste of Shetland dinner. We mainly walked in the older neighborhood of Lerwick. We saw the oldest house, learned about the Fire Festival, walked by several churches, Town Hall, the library, and Fort Charlotte. The night ended with a fantastic dinner @peerieshopcafe. Today's #shetlandwoolweek2019 activity was spent with local crofter Chris Dyer @garthscroftbressay. We had a lovely tour and learned about crofts vs. farms, native and heritage sheep, piglets, produce grown in the greenhouse, and differences between border collies and Welsh sheepdogs. We also got to check out the fleeces available for purchase. So many cool colors! Spent the first half of Sunday on a croft tour to Gremista Farm and Lunna House. Learned about Shetland rams and sheep and saw some Shetland ponies. In the afternoon, had a lovely visit to the Shetland Textile Museum. Ended the evening with the official #shetlandwoolweek2019 welcome address.
