Starting Over
I used to have a tumblr (which is now musicianthatwrites-archive), but I didn’t use it for much, really. I mostly used my RP blogs, but those have since gone inactive. I just....I got fed up with the constant changes and the lack of appreciation.
But I’m coming back to tumblr because something happened to me on Saturday, something that I always joke about happening, the sort of thing that only happens in stories.
Missa had come to visit me for the weekend, and when I went to pick her up at the ferry, I got an email from Twitter, telling me that things were popular in my network. Robert Carlyle had tweeted the locations of the showings of The Legend of Barney Thomson. I noticed that one of the locations was in Seattle. So while I waited to pick up my darling, I did a quick bit of research to find out where the theatre was and if it would be at all feasible to go see the movie.
It was less than half an hour from my apartment.
We waffled back and forth about whether we would go to the 1:45 or the 4:15 showing, and eventually, we decided that we’d go to the 1:45. We headed out ridiculously early because we weren’t sure about traffic and parking and such. We found parking pretty close to the theatre and I bought a lot more than we needed because I would rather be prepared. What if we decided to wander around afterwards?
We walked to the theatre to see where things were and to sort of get a feel for it. We immediately fell in love with it and we will definitely be going back there at some point. But, because we were still really early, we decided to walk around a bit.
I had chosen to wear my closet Mr. Gold cosplay, and I brought along my cane, which is an exact replica of the one used on the show, because I have horrible ankles and there were probably hills.
Turns out, it was a good thing I brought my cane, for a couple of reasons. Yes, there were hills. Yes, I needed my cane. But more importantly (yes, more importantly than physically staying on my feet, hush), it was recognized as the very same cane that is used by a certain Mr. Gold on a certain Once Upon a Time.
Missa had jokingly said that the only people in the theatre would probably be older, Robert Carlyle fans, or geeks like us. We were VERY pleased to discover that it was the latter.
The lovely people we shared the theatre with recognized my cane and when I stood up, they ALL realized that I was dressed as Mr. Gold. I grinned like an idiot; most people don’t get it or acknowledge me as the huge geek I am, despite the fact that my phone case is Captain America’s shield.
It made my day. At least, it did at the time.
After the movie (WHICH WAS AMAZING AND EVERYONE SHOULD GO SEE IF THEY CAN), this lovely group of people invited us out for lunch, which, again, is something that only happens in stories! We went along because, why would we NOT? And we had a freaking BLAST.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually been MYSELF around a group like that in a really really long time. Everyone listened to me when I spoke and they seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, which is such a rarity for me, these days. I’ve lived in Seattle for about two years and I’ve met probably two people that I would actually consider friends.
But now, I can expand that group. Hopefully, I can actually write some fics. I’ve got ideas. And I always accept prompts.
Sakura Con is next weekend (holy COW!) so I’ll probably be pretty busy until after that point, but hopefully, I’ll be around more in the days to come.

THANK.
WELCOME.
So I went to the Comox Nautical Days today and it was so much fun! We wandered around for a while, looking at all the booths and getting ideas about things that we want to buy, and WE SAW THE FISH TOSS. The two people that won broke the record for the longest fish toss. It was so much fun.
