A gargoyle is “a carved waterspout, typically found on buildings, designed to direct rainwater away from the walls and prevent damage”, and is thought to ward off evil spirits, bring protection, frighten humans, and/or represent the fate of sinners.

△ You were standing beneath a gargoyle during a storm when lightning struck, traveled through the gargoyle, and then into you. This awakened the power trapped inside the stone and transferred it to you.
△ You were cursed to become a gargoyle or a gargoyle (you) was blessed to come alive.
△ You come from a world of stone where other gargoyle-like creatures live, and were accidentally brought to your DR by a portal or you journeyed to your DR from your world yourself.
△ You died and a scientist or doctor (maybe a relative of yours) crushed a gargoyle, mixed the enchanted stone dust with water, and inserted the mixture straight into your bloodstream, which brought you back to life and gave you your powers.
△ During the 13th full moon, the blue moon, which only occurs once every two and a half years or so, a gargoyle magically came to life right before your eyes. In order to survive, you managed to kill it and earned its powers.
A harpy is "a personified spirit of storm winds, taking the form of a bird-like creature," that was sent by the gods, specifically Zeus, to punish the guilty through methods such as torture, stealing, befouling, and/or snatching. The name itself means "snatcher".

▲ Power Obtainment Ideas ~
△ You come from a world where other harpies live, and were accidentally brought to your DR by a portal or you journeyed to your DR from your world yourself.
△ You were chosen by Zeus to be the next Harpy, or the role has been passed down in your family for generations, beginning in ancient times.
△ You found a bird who befriended you and gave you the powers, acting as a familiar of sorts. Maybe you saved/helped it and it did this as an act of gratitude. Or, you already had a pet bird, but it revealed the powers to you on your birthday when you reached a certain age.
△ You picked up a seemingly normal feather which was actually the feather of a harpy that still held its powers, transferring them to you.
△ You got caught in a really bad storm that hit your city/town all alone, but the storm was magical. As the wind and rain hit you, it filled you with powers of the harpies.
▲ Alias Ideas ~
△ Harpy
△ The primary harpies' names: Aello, Ocypete, Celaeno, Podarge
These are some ideas to script for superpowers in your DR (or whatever!) based on mythical and supernatural creatures. You don't have to stick to them exactly, of course; they are made to inspire! I do my best to make them gender neutral. I originally did this process when I was scripting my powers for my MCU DR. Feel free to make requests if there's one you'd like to see, and please tag me or let me know if you use any of them so I can thank you!
◬ Big thanks to @marvelshifter111 for the inspiration! Highly recommend checking her stuff out!
