"Reina, get up!" A voice called as a pillow was thrown at me, an attempt to take me away from my dream land. I grunted, not really wanting to get up yet. Don't get me wrong, I am an early bird, but I knew I was being woken up at an earlier time than what I usually get up. Sighing to myself, my eyes fluttered open as I lazily sat up in my bed. I brought my hands to my eyes as I wiped the sleep from my eyes, a yawn escaping my lips as I then threw my arms up into the air, stretching. Honestly, stretching is the best feeling, just the whole idea of resting for God knows how long and then having the amazing feeling of stretching afterwards. Just me? Well, okay then. Once I finished stretching, I noticed my two beloved room-mates and friends, Tessa and Lucy. Tessa had a poorly wrapped present in her hands as Lucy held a small muffin with a single candle stuck in it. Tessa handed the present to me, smiling as Lucy lit the candle, a small flame burning on the small string. Once the candle was lit, the lights went out as the two girls before me began singing the all-so-famous Happy Birthday song. Once they finished singing Lucy brought the muffin to me so that I could blow out the candle.
"Now hurry up and make a wish, because we still need to get ready for class," Tessa said as I rolled my eyes, smiling to myself as I thought of a wish. Once a decent wish came to mind, I closed my eyes and blew out the candle, the room becoming darker than before. Tessa turned the lights back on, being that she was standing next to the light switch by my bed. Tessa walked off to the small kitchen part of our little dorm room, doing whatever she was doing as Lucy sat on the bed beside me.
"Open the present. I hope you like it, it was mainly my idea by the way," She joked as we both heard a 'It was not!' come from the kitchen. I smiled as I put a hand to Lucy's shoulder, as I looked at her with a, 'really?' facial expression.
"You guys didn't have to get me anything. A simple 'happy birthday' would have been perfectly fine!" I exclaimed as I pulled her into a hug as Tessa walked in with three plates with a single muffin on each as she handed one to Lucy and placed one beside me as she had one to herself. Tessa ruffled my hair as she sat beside Lucy who was already munching down on her muffin.
"Reina, you're our best friend and room mate, of course we would have done this!" Tessa said as I smiled. I took a bite out of the muffin. I could tell it was store muffins because we never have time to do any cooking. We have too much college things to worry about, like grades and staying on the professor's good side. Luckily for me that was easy as I can be quite the people person. Tessa and Lucy on the other hand... Well let's just say they have a thing for getting professors mad. It's a mystery on how they are still here and never get in much trouble. I guess it's because the headmaster always tells me to keep them in check, but with these two, it's like you don't want to change them or that gets rid of the excitement! Just as I was about to thank them, Lucy spoke.
"Plus to mention you can be scary as shit when people forget stuff!" She laughed as she finished her muffin and stood up, walking to the bathroom to start getting ready. Tessa couldn't help but let a laugh past her lips, causing her to cover her mouth with her hand to prevent herself from letting any more sounds out. Yet I could still see her laugh through her hand, causing me to roll my eyes. I looked over to the clock and almost jumped as I pulled the covers off of me and stood up.
"Either my clock is wrong or yours, but if we don't hurry up, we're going to be late!" I yelled as I shooed Tessa out of my dorm room and into the living room part as I then closed my door. As soon as the door closed I heard Lucy yell a 'Wouldn't want to screw up your perfect attendance halfway through the year!' which earned yet another laugh from Tessa. Sometimes I question how I am the only person who can really tolerate those two. I guess it's because they stuck me in a dorm room with them and they sort of just grew on me. I'm not complaining, but most people find it odd that me, being a 'goody two-shoes' to be best friends with the 'rebellious duo'. Oh well that is a mystery to solve some other time.
I walked to my closet and picked out an outfit suitable for today's weather. It was going to be a hot day today, or so my phone's app says. So I grabbed a pair of black, studded shorts; my emoji, yin and yang crop top; some black tights; and my favourite military boots out of my closet. Once I was changed I went to my dresser and put on my black, hipster like glasses and my adorable black and gold angel watch. A small yawn escaped my lips as I pulled off my beanie to brush my hair. When I took my beanie off, my eyes slightly widened. 'What the hell?' I thought as I peered into my dresser's mirror. The right side of my hair started to turn white again, but much faster than this time. 'This isn't right.. It usually takes a whole month until it starts to change.. It's only been two weeks!' I thought again. This was really strange. Knowing that I couldn't go to see my aunt just yet, I quickly brushed my hair, pushed it to one side and put my beanie back on. Luckily it was only the top of my hair that began to change. Sighing I picked up my phone and unlocked it. 'Oh, I have a text from mom..' I thought as I opened it and read it quietly to myself.
"Morning birthday girl! Just wanted to say that I hope you remember that you're coming here for lunch. Lucas can't wait to see you again, he misses his older sister! Aha, your father and I hope to see our baby back at home. Other than that, have a great morning and don't be rude to any of the professors and don't get into trouble with birthday brain. Okay, love you sweetie~!" I smiled to myself as I finished reading the message. My mom always told me to not get birthday brain since I was 4 years old because I use to always think that you could do anything while it's your birthday and not get in trouble. Boy, was I wrong! I replied to my loving mother, saying "Don't worry, I'll catch the bus as soon as I can. And tell Lucas to be ready for when I come and not to hug me too tightly! Okay see you soon, love you!" I clicked send and took a nice look at myself in the mirror, making sure I looked okay, and not like a turd. I smiled at my appearance, thinking I looked acceptable. I then went to my bedroom door and opened it, walking out to see Tessa and Lucy all dressed and ready for the day ahead. I found it nice we had our own styles, it kept everything interesting. Plus it prevented us from pinching one another's shirts or shoes considering we're all the same size. Apart from Lucy who is as thin as anything, but not in an unhealthy way, more in a petite kind of way. We all flashed a smile to one another as Tessa spoke up as she was still tying up her long, brown and wavy hair into a pony tail.
"Everyone ready to enter the halls of hell?" Tessa said, earning a laugh from Lucy and I. I nodded my head, signalling them that I was ready, Lucy following after. That was when Tessa opened the door and we made our way out. Time for the day to begin~!
I sat in the lecture theatre, bored out of my mind. The professor was basically just going over what we had already learnt... or well I learnt. I was always a step ahead of the class. It's only a simple art class, and because I am always locked away from the world creating, I kind of learnt as I went on. According to my professor, I am what he calls 'A Colourful Thinker.' When he first called me that, I had no idea what it meant, but when he explained, it all came to me. He said that those who are smart in a mathematical or scientific way, think in black and white. Many people find those fields of work to be dull, and boring, which is why he calls them 'A Monochrome Thinker.' It made even more sense when he explained what a colourful thinker was. Yet, he believes those with artistic, musical, literature skills or talent, have a great imagination to turn nothing into something. In a way, I am proud to be a colourful thinker. Which is why for my last assignment, I am most definitely going to incorporate my thinking ways.
Just as I was really getting into thought, something didn't seem right. I didn't understand why but I felt like someone's eyes were burning into the back of my skull. I turned around to see Corey looking at me with a shocked expression. Corey is just one of my class mates. We have never really spoken before, but I know he is the sweet yet shy type of guy. I gave him a confused look, my eyes practically asking him why he was surprised. He pointed to his hair a few times before he pointed to me. At first I didn't know what he was going on about, until I heard one of the girls scream, and a chair fly back.
"Reina's a Radioactive!" She yelled at the top of her lungs, causing me to look around as everyone's eyes were on me. I looked to see Tessa and Lucy in utter shock as everyone stared in utter shock. That was when I realised. I picked up my phone from my desk and held the screen to me. I pulled my beanie off with my other hand, seeing in the screen's reflection that the right side of my hair had turned white again. This couldn't be possible! My hair doesn't change so quickly! Not being able to do anything else I heard sirens going off from the outside.
"I'm screwed..." I said under my breathe as everyone went sprinting out of the lecture theatre. Before the room was completely empty, I saw Tessa and Lucy look at me with a hurt expression. Tessa went to leave but Lucy stood still. That was when Tessa grabbed her arm and they ran out, watching me as they left. I didn't know what to do. Suddenly the doors burst open as the A.R.E team came storming in. A.R.E stands for Anti-Radioactive Earth. Before I could say or do anything, I was being screamed at to put my hands behind my head. I didn't want to go with them but I did as they said. Putting my hands behind my head and turning around, something felt off. It felt like that moment when you realise a hidden talent. Yet this was much more different. But I can't show it yet, I have to wait until I catch them off guard.
"Stay still!" One man demanded in a low and spine chilling voice. I restrained from nodding my head as he came up behind me. Just as he was about to put the electric handcuffs on me, I did something I never even thought was possible. From what I believe, my body evaporated into the air, like dust. All I know is that I then found myself outside, shocked and slightly scared.
"H-how did...?" I whispered to myself, not finishing the question that no one could answer. Yelling was heard yet again. The next thing I knew, I was on the run. I had ran as fast as I could. At first I didn't know where my feet were taking me, but before I knew it, I was standing on the front steps of my house. I was so relieved to have found myself home, but something wasn't right. The front door was left ajar, something my family never does. Slowly walking in, I came to a stop. My eyes widened as tears sting at the corners of my eyes. I stared in absolute horror as I took a few steps backwards. My mom, my dad and even my little brother... shot dead... I didn't know what to do either than cry, when suddenly two arms wrapped themselves behind me, holding me tightly. I tried to scream but a hand had covered my mouth.
"Shh.. It's okay... It's me..." The person whispered softly as I sobs came out as a muffle. The voice sounded all-so familiar. The person took their hand back, causing me to look up at them. My eyes met with the face of my aunt, Gloria. I then turned around and hugged onto her tightly, crying as I couldn't bear to look to my now late family. She pat my head to calm me down, when sirens were heard from in the distance.
"We need to leave..." Was the last thing my aunt said before we ran out of the house, tears still falling from my eyes as we then went into her pick-up truck, and drove off to God knows where...
