Ian wasn't sure how he had ended up at the circus, but he was glad. He had wandered around the grounds as he watched the crowd before him. As he walked along though, his gaze landed on a nearby tent. The flap was ajar, as if someone had forgotten to close it all the way. But that only made Ian more curious. Making a beeline for the tent, he squeezed his thin body through the opening and stepped inside.
As the flap swooped down behind him, his gaze landed on the giant beast before him. His mother would never had allowed him to get close to the elephant. According to her, they were filthy and dangerous creatures. But he knew, even at that age, that that wasn't true. For a moment, all Ian could do was stand there and stare, his mouth slightly agape. This was the closest he'd ever been. And he wanted to get closer.
There was awe in his eyes as he approached the gentle giant, the words tumbling out of his mouth as he got closer.
