FOR YEARS SHE'D GONE INTO HIDING. AFTER THE war, after they'd lost steve, diana had lost her faith in humanity. the worst should have been behind them all. they should have been well on their way to finding a sense of peace but that was not the case. it seemed that humanity had a thirst for violence, for total control. they were greedy .. selfish, and her mother was right. they did not deserve her when they created their messes on their own accord.
with steve gone, her belief's broken and scattered, she'd created a sense of normalcy for herself. one that would be filled with a quiet sort of life, taking care of artifacts that came through whichever museum she found herself working in. her knowledge of history in every culture scattered over the globe, gave her the opportunity to be of assistance wherever she went.
it worked for her.
she'd settled into a more quiet, mundane life minding her own business as wars raged through the masses. it wasn't until things began to truly shift with a more ominous power. the norse god that made his appearance, the brother that was greedy for more power. it wasn't until she'd truly paid attention that the realization had hit --- steve was back. they'd pulled him from the water and gave him life once more. it was like a smack in the face. diana had thought him gone forever. she'd mourned him. her heart aching for the man that was too good for this world. courageous and willing to do anything he could for a place that had always looked down on him. for the one who gave her hope in the world and the people in it.
she'd hesitated. for the first time in her life, diana was filled with indecision over what her plan of action would be. did she join the fight and face her lack of action for the past few decades to once more be at the captain's side? or did she remain her bubble so she did not have to face the heartache of society letting her down once more.
was there actually a choice?
no. which was why she found herself running through streets, a trail of lifeless alien creatures left behind her as she worked to save those that she could and make her way towards the group that fought for the city. it wasn't long before she spotted him. the sight threatened to steal her breath away, but she forced herself to focus as her heart stuttered in her chest. a few more moments and she was dropping in front of him, knees bending to soften the impact of her landing.
diana squatted down to the man that had pain contorting his features. his actions slow while she reached out a hand to his arm, " easy captain ... take a breath. the fight has momentarily stalled. " she speaks to him in a soft manner, her gaze filled with concern and a hint of admiration.
