One of the most fragile mortal species in the Ryuniverse.
Respirapters (also known as Respie Raptors) are a species of small, feathery beasts which wear their lungs on the outside of their bodies.
Due to the thick, mana-filled atmosphere on Arizel, they cannot obtain oxygen by breathing. So over time, those who had absorbed large quantities of magic became more prevalent in the population, until most, if not all of the dinosaur-like creatures gained the ability to separate their organs from themselves without surgery or death.
They traditionally wear satchels to hold excess organs, while they keep their lungs and sometimes hearts draped around their necks and midsections to absorb air and magic. These separated parts are free of blood and are instead filled with a gelatinous magical substance that prevents disease and some damage.
They’re incredibly reckless as a species, to the point where arenas for sport-based battles, as well as quest guilds, have sprung up across regions where they are native to. Some have even been known to willingly infect themselves with Lurker Parasites just for show.
Unlike the other predatory species in their world, Respies are quite friendly, and they tend to hang around more outgoing Ryubliss communities such as Shift City and the Night Market.
