It was just his luck to meet a mechanic on the planet below. This Kaylee had never worked on a living ship, but she seemed competent enough that John felt he could trust her opinion on whatever was happening with Moya’s systems. Aeryn wasn’t too thrilled at the thought of John bringing someone back aboard with him, but this girl wasn’t a threat. John was sure of it.

He’d been giving her the grand tour for about half an arn when Pilot’s voice sounded urgently through his communicator. “Peacekeepers! They’ve found us!” The entire ship started to shake, clearly the beginnings of Starburst.

There was no time to get Kaylee back aboard her ship. All John could do was issue the warning, “Hang onto something” before Moya was off, taking her passengers God-knows-where.

       he has felt the LOSS of a friend, and he knows there is nothing he can do. nothing he can say will take her pain away, and nothing he can do will ever bring him back or fill the emptiness in her chest. still, his heart burns as he watches her cry, and his eyes focus on the way her shoulders shake with each sob. maahir’s lips curl downward and he shifts closer to kaylee, large hands curling over her shoulders and rubbing into them gently. he can do nothing but comfort her, and so that is what he will do.

       “i’m afraid i’m not very good at this.” he is trying, and that is more than he can say for himself in the past several years. being in the military, he had little need of cooking for himself— most of their rations required little, if any, heat— and they certainly didn’t take any preparation. he’d fanned away the smoke from the stove on the ship without giving time for an alarm to sound, but the food, it seemed, was beyond repair.

             “… perhaps i should start over.”

       “—it’s fine,” maahir says gently, his voice as soft and comforting as he can make it. he doesn’t want her to feel bad; he’d known that his ship was irreparable before she’d stepped foot onto it. what he hadn’t known was how much he would learn about the girl— the mechanic from a ship called serenity, a ship that she loved as if it were her own child— and that he would grow fond of her so quickly. the sad look in her eye brings guilt to his chest and makes his heart heavy.

       slowly maahir reaches out, long fingers hooking beneath her chin, and he presses a slow, sweet kiss to her forehead, his long eyelashes resting upon his cheeks.

       “please. you have done everything you could.”

locke/helen: i really like locke and helen. they’re a lot like rose and bernard in that they met later in life, which is so interesting to see in a tv show, and they’re??? so interesting. they love each other a lot but locke’s conflicts make things difficult, but helen tries really hard for him?? and she’s totally the strong one, and that makes my heart happy, because locke deserves someone who’s willing to try and help him get past his mess of a life and they just deserved so much. ; u ;
