Gripped by fear, Ieyasu fled to the Hamamatsu Castle. His horse was at the head. Behind him there were a few samurai riders following and garding his back. Fighting with Shingen’s horse riders, they died one by one.

Ieyasu was so beside himself that he had a bowel movement unconsciously on his horse’s back(Oops!). Of course this is a huge humiliation as a samurai. So, afterwords, he had a painter draw his figure of this time. This picture (called ‘Shikami figure’, 'Shikami’ means 'grimace’) reminded him of his humiliating experience, and then he would say 'Never do again’. Now we can see this picture at Tokugawa Museum in Nagoya.
