So a while back, I went to a flea market and bought a used my little pony G1 Merriweather. Unfortunately she was not in the best condition. She’s has a few small paint spots on her body. She was missing some of her hair and her tail had rust but I love a challenge, and I love restoring dolls and ponies, unfortunately my ADD got the better of me and I didn’t take a whole lot of before pictures just after pictures the only before picture I have is of the missing hair plugs on her head so here’s that 

But I’ve always been a bit on the creative side and I decided instead of just restoring Merriweather. I wanted to customize her a little see she’s supposed to be twice as fancy right and her body is just such a gorgeous design, but her hair just feels so meh in comparison, so I decided to add a pink streak to match the pink in her rainbows. I removed the rust from her tail which I did with toothpaste and soap, then I ordered some pink hair (candy kiss )from shimmer locks and I put some in the tail and then some in her head and then I used the little bit of yellow that I took out of her tail to fill in the last few spots in her head to make everything even

what do you guys think 

I know generally customizing perfectly good G1 is frowned upon by the collector community, but actually like her a lot more this way, and I don’t intend to resell her this for my own personal enjoyment

So fun fact about rerooting rainbow high dolls. Their heads are a lot thicker/harder than a regular Barbie doll head so you have to keep repeatedly, heating them before sticking the needle in or your needle will break. I have broken several rerooting needles because of this And yesterday I was in the middle of working on one of my dolls when my last one broke and shimmer locks is on vacation so I have to wait until Friday before I can order more. I have some size 3, but size 3 is just a little too big for what I’m trying to do when I really need a size 5. 

and for some reason some of the doll heads are harder to keep soft than others.  like for instance, I had some trouble with Rexis head before I figured out what I was doing then I started working on a Delilah and she has been much easier to work with. I also did a little bit of rerooting on a Simone and she wasn’t too bad however I’m currently working on Hali and River and their heads seem to be much harder and it was actually Rivers head that broke my needle  so you know it’s been interesting.

Good news is I finished all of the rerooting on Delilah and Simone so now it’s just painting and styling  

Also, my older sister has informed me that my work table full of headless dolls, and my rerooting of dolls is in fact, vaguely creepy I don’t know why she feels that way, but she thinks it’s scary. Similarly one of my other sisters has decided that dolls with no eyes in them are also terrifying, I had taken the eyes out of one because I wanted to swap the eyelashes with a different one and every time she walked by my table she literally jumped this girls in her 20s she’s not a little kid

Incidental Interlude

One reason I’ve been hoarding old MLP tails even when they’re cut is that the newer hair supplies don’t EXACTLY match in either color or texture, and vintage hair tends to be closer (unless it’s become discolored in some way).

A cut tail is very often long enough for a forelock, and forelocks are the most likely bits of hair to be cut off a pony by a child. I guess we all hated how they stuck STRAIGHT UP after a while.

I had vintage hair to patch in both Baby Bright Bouquet and TaF Baby Love Melody. Love Melody needs a good bit of paint, I see...

I did NOT have vintage hair for Snowdrop and had to go with Cantaloupe from Shimmer Locks.

It’s very close, but in person I can see that Snowdrop’s hair is a little pinker of an orange, whereas Cantaloupe leans more toward yellow (and yes, I am a very, very pink colored person).

The new Cantaloupe is also a different texture, but will become more like vintage hair after washing, conditioning, and a pass with the flat iron. However, the fresh nylon will always be more slippery.

Good news shimmer locks is back from vacation today so I have officially ordered some new rerooting needles and will be able to continue my custom doll endeavors  soon

My hair came for Wind Whistler's reroot is here!

No sign of Wind Whistler though. Her ETA was the 25th but she's running very late.

So, hair!

I ended up ordering from both Shimmer Locks and The Doll Planet. Seeing them in person now, I think TDP's Peachy Pink is the best color for Wind Whistler. BUT I won't be able to tell until she actually comes in and I see her in front of me. I'm thinking of blending Peachy Pink with some Cotton Candy from SL. Yes, they're from different suppliers but my toy I do what I want. :P

According to SL, their Posey Pink was the closest color for the original WW. As much as I appreciate that information and I'm glad that tool exists on their site, I wasn't sold on that color. Too pink. Too vibrant.
