“Bammie!” You call out loud enough for him to hear from his office down the hall, “Can you come here please?”

You hear your partner’s footsteps, followed by those of his two dogs, as he makes his way towards you, lazing on the sofa in the living room. You tilt your head back to look at him as he arrives, smiling softly at him as Comme Des and Garçons jump up onto you for snuggles.

“Everything okay, jagi?” Kibum asks you, leaning over to pet Garçons to calm his barking.

“I’m okay,” You nod, “Just thirsty, can I please have a drink?”

Kibum bites his lip, closing his eyes as he inhales deeply, and then exhales out of his nostrils slowly. You sit up, knowing the action is one he only performs when he is frustrated and angry. You watch as he kneels down beside you, his gaze fixed on yours, making you feel small next to him.

“I think I’ve spoiled you too much these last few days,” He sighs, reaching forward to trail his fingertips across your jawline, “You can’t even fetch yourself a glass of water?”

You realise that he is right, that you definitely could have done it yourself, but you weren’t thinking, as he had been doing everything for you lately. You know that you have two options here, apologise, or play dumb and see where that will get you, and you need to choose fast.

“Sorry, oppa,” You murmur, “I just missed you.”

Kibum rolls his eyes, though he laughs too as you pout, trying to get away with how bratty you have been, though you know that is not going to work. Kibum combs his fingers through your hair, knotting them as he reaches the base of your scalp, he turns your head to face him, and you know you are done for.

“Now, now, baby,” He purrs, “Come, I think tonight I need to be spoiled by you.”

Synonyms for Painful - Part 1;  SHINee’s Key

20 - difficult; had anyone told me before, I would’ve laugh and said they’re stupid. Only now without you here do I realize how difficult living without you is.

A/N: hullos, I’ve finally decided to post this Part 1 of ‘Synonyms for Painful’. In case you’re new, I will not be posting the sections of this series in chronological order because none of the parts, unless mentioned otherwise, are really connected at all, unless indicated. The numbers before the prompts are just for organization purposes. Without further ado, please enjoy part 1!

I only have one thing to say about working in an office building; it’s boring as hell. There’s no dragons flying around setting buildings aflame with their fiery breath, there’s never a damsel in distress hanging precariously with one hand from a ledge of a 50-story tower. There’s no dice of destiny deciding your fate; dice that -with one roll- could grant you all the treasure in the universe or trap you in a slow, excruciating death.

Yeah, nope. It’s pretty boring.

Every day it’s the same thing. It’s just me and my office, Kim ‘Key’ Kibum in our shared office as the hours tick by slowly with only a flickering light bulb hanging above us. From the crack of dawn to the first sign of nightfall, our bgm is the the quiet buzzing of the weak light bulb.

The most exciting thing that’s happened throughout our relatively uneventful careers must have been 

that day a storm burned out the electricity in the building and Key and I played poker and b.s. by candle light for the rest of work day. Long story short, life as us was really boring and repetitive and neither of us had a problem with it. We both preferred the serene and recurring safe haven in our shared office. We both preferred life boring.

I’ll admit to staring at him and his delicate features for more than was required time and time again, but it was hard not to. He was decorated with prominent cheekbones, a peaceful smile, and eyes that always scrunched up when he smiled, which was not often. He was around the smaller size when it came to men, perhaps because Asian men were infamous for being short, but he still managed to look good in it. Every day, he surprised me with a new variation to the strict dress code we were stuck working with. I always wondered where he got the money for such clean and professional looking clothes, after all, we didn’t have a very high salary.

Key got his nickname from my first day of work. I had forgotten my office key that first morning. Fortunately, upon walking through the hallway on the floor I was appointed to be in for the next long while, I was only mildly pleased to realize I was sharing an office with the attractive Asian male I had been sneaking glances at on the elevator ride up and that he had his keys. I still remember the way he looked over me, a half smirk painted on his lips when he realized one, that I was doomed to being his office mate for however long we were going to be working here, and two, that I didn’t have my keys.

Ever since that first day, we fell into a pattern of me ‘forgetting’ my keys, and him always there to greet me with keys, that half smirk I might or might not have fallen for and a cup filled with my usual white chocolate mocha.

Yes, it was boring. Yes it was repetitive, but we didn’t mind. So we kept it the same.

That is… at least until one day, he didn’t show up to work and I was forced to ask the secretary for a spare key. At first, I didn’t think much of it, after all, though we had each other’s personal numbers, we never really contacted each other outside of work. There was a good chance he was on sick leave, the flu had been passing through our building.

After about a month of becoming awkwardly acquainted with the secretary, a pleasant, small female with round glasses, dimples, and a crazy amount of unwavering patience, I started to get worried. After another week of racking up the courage to ask her if she knew anything about Key, I finally asked.

This time, I wasn’t met with the same, patient smile. In its place was a sad, sympathetic one. She stared at me with unshed tears painted in her eyes and handed me a plain manila folder. Upon entering the soundless elevator, I pondered the pain in her eyes and the sadness in the wordless silence she had greeted me with.

Arriving at our office, I finally opened the manila envelope, expecting to see a pink slip with his name on it or something. Instead, I was met with the appearance of a hastily written url on a torn piece of paper along with a neatly folded letter. Opening my personal laptop, I quickly typed in the url, not expecting much to pop up. I have never in my life been more wrong. What popped up exactly 0.72 seconds later was a news article whose headlines stopped my heart for a brief, jaw dropping second.

No. No. It couldn't be. Scrawled across the top of the screen were the following words; Terrible 10 Car Collision on the 805 north. 5 People Killed, 7 mortally wounded.

I scrolled down further with my hand shaking badly and tears collecting at corners of my eyes. The list of the deceased drivers finally crawled into view and the dam holding back my tears broke. His name was the first one there.

Dropping my expensive personal laptop, I slid to the floor in shock. I covered my mouth, the tears running down my face and bile building in the back of my throat.

I would never see him again. He would never be there to open the door for me with that snarky smile of his. We could never play b.s. again during our breaks and speak about the older lady next door who wanted to set him up with her granddaughter. I would never get that last cup of white chocolate mocha he always bought for me in the mornings. He was gone. Dead. And to think we were foolish enough to promise to marry each other if by the time we were 45 we hadn't found someone else.

After about an hour sitting there on the floor, crying my eyes out, someone knocked on the door.

Shakily opening the door, the secretary I had been recently getting to know appeared with a smile and letter in her hands. She left shortly after, saying she had spoken with our boss and that I had the rest of the day off.

On the letter was the familiar chicken scratch of my late co worker and best friend. I slowly read his writing, savoring the one sure thing I had left of the man I didn’t realize was my best friend until it was too late.

My favorite person in the whole world~

If you’re reading this and I’m not here… That means something bad happened.

I don’t know if you remembered that one conversation that happened a couple years ago, but during that conversation, I promised never to leave you. I know… it was a stupid promise to make, knowing separation is  inevitable, eventually, one of us might have left. I guess it had to be me. I broke that foolish promise and I cringe to think I ever promised you something so impossible and unrealistic.

If you’re reading this… it also means there’s a possibility you don’t know how much you really mean to me. In the case that you already know, I’ll tell you again. In the case that you don’t… I’d swim across the sea for you even though you know I hardly know how to swim. I’d trek across the hottest desert to make sure you were safe and sound. I’d scale the highest mountain and throw myself in front of a train for you. Chances are though… I never told you all that. I’m saying all these things, yet I didn’t have the balls to tell you in person. I’m such an cowardly idiot.

You know I’ve never been the best expressing myself verbally. I hope you forgive me for promising such a stupid thing when we both knew life is short and could, in a flash, be gone. I wish I could promise to never forget you. I wish I could promise you all the dumb, fluffy things we ridiculed while watching those absurd romantic movies. I wish my promise never to leave you had not been the empty promise it ended up as.

My only wish now is to hope this somehow gets to you and that you’ll never forget me… Don’t forget to find that guy that’ll spice up your life like I should have when I had the chance.

By then, his written words were hardly visible from behind the torrents of tears falling from my eyes. I was torn. I was angry. I was in complete and utter despair.  My heart was broken. I wanted with all my being for this to be a cruel joke. It’d been too long without him though. It wasn’t just a cruel joke. He was truly gone. And with him, he took a good sized chunk of my heart I didn’t realize he had grasped in the first place.

I took sick leave for the next week. I scavenged the new papers, I sailed through the news clips. My worst nightmare was confirmed. I would never have a steaming cup of hot white chocolate mocha waiting for me. I’d never see his beautiful naturally contoured facial features or hear his teasing laugh again. I’d never get to braid his hair while he slept, I’d never get to read the ending of that story he was in the process of writing.

Had anyone told me before, I would’ve laugh and said they’re stupid. Only now without you here do I realize how difficult living without you is.

SHINee Kibum x GF One shot: “Itchy Babe” Request by @key-smut ———————————— You are currently lying in your shared bed on top of the soft cool sheets wearing only your favorite loose fit pajama shirt with no bra and a comfortable pair of black pajama shorts.

You scroll through his Instagram profile and smile softly at how wonderful your boyfriend is and start to wonder when he will get home.

At that exact moment a very sleepy Kibum opens your shared bedroom door as he walks in and looks into your eyes with a sweet gaze and soft smile before he says, “I’m tired baby.”

You nod your head and softly reply with “I know Kibummie.” “Can we cuddle and can you please scratch my back it’s been itchy since I came out of my car.” He cutely pouts while trying to reach the itch but failing adorably. You giggle and nod your head then reach both arms to him indicating to cuddle.

Instead he lies next to you and pulls you into his embrace to cuddle. He smiles gently when you reach both hands underneath his shirt to scratch everywhere on his back.

Kibum has always been known to take care of you or anyone he loves genuinely. So he decides since you love receiving a back scratch that this is the perfect way to begin the day.

You flutter both of your eyes due to his fingers dancing all across your back. “How does that feel sweetheart?” He looks up and smiles when he notices your happy reaction and kisses the top of your head before closing his eyes.

“Aw haha are you itchy babe?” He chuckles at the way you melt like putty at his relaxing touch. “No.” You softly retort back “but you sweet love are one itchy babe.” You tease sweetly “and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Kibum smiles contently at your words and the itchiness is slowly disappearing as he still scratches your back softer and slower as he mumbles, “ I love you honey.” You come to the realization that your itchy kitten of a sweet boyfriend fell asleep when his soft hands dancing across your back come to a stop.

You look up then snuggle closer and whisper before being lured back to sleep, “I love you too my beautiful itchy babe.”

The night is coming to an end, the business-dinner-turned-party has been a long one. You chose to stay mostly sober, as you are due back in the office tomorrow to help with more schedules.

As an intern, your duties are constant, and your entire career is riding on you succeeding well, so you try to remain constantly diligent, always on time and acting professional.

Tonight has been difficult for you, as although you have maintained face, a particular co-worker of yours has been insistently leading you away from the corporate persona you have worked so hard to present as.

“Kim Kibum,” You murmur under your breath, “What do you want?”

He chuckles as you turn to face him, his hand rests on the back of yours as he stares deeply into your eyes. His black hair is perfectly parted in the middle, and he wears bright contacts that remind you of outer-space.

“No honorifics?” He asks with a smirk, “I didn’t expect that from you, sweetheart.”

You roll your eyes at him, though the pet name makes you blush, and you lift a hand to your face to try and hide the fact that you are smiling.

“Kibum-nim,” You say sarcastically, before repeating your earlier question, “What do you want?”

Kibum takes the last sip of his beer before placing the glass down on the table, he tilts his head to the side in thought, while tracing shapes on the back of your hand with his manicured nails.

“You need a place to stay for the night?” He asks.

You knew this was coming, as the flirting between you had escalated throughout the night, you had not been able to resist his charm, nor had you wanted to. You pretend to ponder the idea, though your mind was made up even before he had finished his sentence.

“Yes,” You nod, “Yeah, I do.”

SHINee BF Oneshot:Key(Kibum) cuddling with you at home after a long day of individual schedules w/out his members. ~fluffy comfort TBH~ -------------------------------------- You come out of the bathroom in your favorite soft pajama shirt and comfortable shorts as you stop and let your eyes adjust to the dim bedroom only lit by the soft glow of the bedside lamps. You silently walk over to him sitting up in bed with a pillow placed behind his back while his glasses are set perfectly on the frame of his nose as he scrolls calmly through his Instagram feed. Without looking up at you, Kibum wraps his right arm around your waist underneath your top and lightly caresses the skin with his recently manicured nails. A few seconds later he gently faces his phone down to look up into your eyes and say with a warm small smile, "I've missed you today honey." "You took the words right out of my mouth." You reply and giggle slightly. Then he removes his wrapped arm set on your waist to take your left hand as you are gently pulled on the bed next to him lying on your stomach gazing into his eyes. Kibum pulls up your shirt just a little and begins tracing small circles into your skin. "How was your day babe?" You ask with your eyes closed due to his fingers dancing on the little part of your back. Kibum sighs and softly confesses, " as much as I love being an idol..it's really exhausting sometimes." You just nod your head in response and flutter your eyes open to lift up your right hand and softly caress his cheek letting him know that's it's okay to feel like this every now and then. "Babe, you are amazing. I'm super proud of you." You answer honestly, "and just saying even if you never became an idol I would still love you and be proud to call you mine." He smiles softly while leaning over to brush his lips against your own only to kiss you gently and whisper " I love you baby." In response you kiss him again and say " I love you too sweetheart." Kibum pulls you into a comfortable embrace and runs his hands up and down your clothed back. A technique he discovered one night when he lightly scratched your back in bed after a long day of work and you fell asleep almost immediately in his arms. You melt like putty when your boyfriend does this and Kibum definitely knows it. "Bummie?" "Yeah?" "I love you~" You mumble as you fall asleep in his embrace. He smiles sweetly and pulls the sheets over you both still resuming the soft scratching across your clothes back until he falls sound asleep snuggled up with you ready for the next day to come.

You smile and reach up to give him a soft kiss on the cheek and whisper “Thank you I promise you won’t regret it!” Which makes him melt and smile at your adorableness.

*10 minutes later*

You are both cuddled up on your couch as you look for the 3rd time at your new bandage set on your index finger.

Everything was running smoothly until you accidentally pricked your index finger with a needle.

“Sorry babe.” you look up at him as you laugh awkwardly “I guess maybe I shouldn’t have tried to help.”

He smiles softly placing a gentle kiss on your lips, “it’s okay sweetheart, I had a feeling this would happen i’m just happy that you were willing to take a chance and try something different.”

Kibum brings you closer and begins to rub your back underneath your shirt as your eyes flutter to a close from the comforting touch.

———————————— Kibum’s arm is wrapped around your waist as you are both snuggled up together under a soft warm blanket on the couch in the living room in your apartment where you live together.

“Does this feel nice honey?” He asks as he runs his free hand through your hair.

You nod ‘yes’, close your eyes and lean your head onto his chest.

He chuckles to himself while turning on the TV to a F.R.I.E.N.D.S show marathon and places the remote on the left table.

“I’m happy we live together Bum.” “Because my favorite days are just being snuggly together like this. You know?”

You open your eyes slowly as Kibum smiles,kisses the top of your head and begins rubbing your back with the hand formerly on your waist.

A few minutes pass by as Comme Des plus Garçons occasionally run up to be pet by you both from your current comfortable position on the couch.

“Hey babe?” You ask him as you shift closer into his embrace.

“Yeah love?”

While expecting an answer from you he looks confused until he notices a special look on your face with a hopeful smile that he understands you.

Kibum immediately recognizes this look and softly begins scratching your back on top of the pajama shirt.

“Aisssh. What is it with you and you loving my back scratches?” He teases only because he loves you and you know that he actually loves when you give him that look.

“I can’t help it if my best friends back scratches feel incredible!” You retort and tease back to him.

He rolls his eyes and scoffs slightly but continues to scratch.

Comme Des is a VERY smart dog so, he sometimes becomes jealous when seeing Kibum giving his friends especially his best friend/roommate (you) a massage,back rub, or back scratch.

Comme Des whines at the lack of attention on his end until he is picked up and brought into your lap by yourself as you relax him and stroke his soft curly fur.

“HAHA” he laughs “aigoo is my puppy jealous of my human puppy??”

You hit his chest not too hard but just enough and receive his loud but loveable laugh and a “hey hey relax love I’m just kidding!”

You both look into each other’s eyes and laugh softly and resume the current cuddling.

“Hey Kibummie..I love you. You are hands down my ultimate best friend.”

He smiles wrapping both arms around your waist and kisses your cheek gently then presses his cheek into your cheek closing his eyes before asking,

“Still want me to continue the back scratch?”

“Yes please”

He chuckles and uses both hands to scratch your back as you are still in his warm embrace.

A few seconds pass before he says,“ I love you too honey and you’ve always been the most important person to me since the day we met.”
