idk if i've said this yet but one thing i really love about shinee is that so many of their newer songs are really like...epic?  like the music is so powerful and big and over the top and it just feels really, really amazing.  like spoiler & evil & hitchhiking & nightmare those performances are just.................... *dies*

what is your impression of the boys as performers?

As a whole, I think the most striking thing about seeing SHINee perform is their passion and professionalism.  They take the art of performing very seriously, and it shows.  These boys are not merely singing and dancing on stage, they create a unique atmosphere and experience for each song, and they are throwing themselves headlong into that performance with every moment.  They really sell it every time.  SHINee all have different stage personalities than their “real” personalities, which is why someone like Jonghyun can swag across the stage like a badass in Spoiler and then cry like a baby at the end of the concert.  When they’re on stage, SHINee are fierce. 

I don’t know if you want me to talk about each member individually, but I’m going to~~ 

Onew: Onew has an amazing stage presence that is both subtle and powerful.  I went to the concert with some friends who are casual shinee fans and they both agreed that Onew left the greatest impression.  He’s the best live singer in the group in my opinion (in terms of pitch accuracy and vocal stamina at least) and he manages to be extremely warm and playful at times, and intense and sexy at others.  There’s also something about Onew that comes across as very genuine and sweet.  There’s a reason his nickname is ‘tofu’ and there’s also a reason that SM gave him the name “Onew” (which means gentle in Korean).  Onew is squishy and sweet and silly and gentle but he’s also a very passionate performer, and you can tell that he really loves to sing.  

Jonghyun: I’ve said this a few times in other posts, but when Jonghyun is on stage it’s like he is having the high of his life.  He has so much energy and it’s so all over the place and he’s clearly having such an amazing time.  As for Jonghyun’s live singing, he does well, but he does occasionally struggle to land on the right pitch.  However, any vocalist is entitled to make the kind of mistakes he makes, they aren’t major or indicating a lack of talent, they’re just natural things that happen when you are dancing you’re heart out and gasping for breath and belting high notes.  All things considered he still has the voice of a god.  Jonghyun’s singing also tends to sound different live because he sort of infuses it with passion and does extra runs/slides sometimes.  He was especially different on Sleepless Nights—he really threw himself into it and it showed in his voice.  I think everyone in the fandom knows that Jonghyun has a seriously sexy, swaggy stage presence when he wants to, and he definitely did this weekend.

Key: My love for Key always skyrockets after seeing SHINee live.  I love watching Key perform, especially during songs like 321 where they are just rocking out on stage.  He always looks like he’s having the time of his life and like he’s inviting you to have it with him.  Key comes across as this incredible diva at times, but contrary to his image, he also comes across as a sweet, self-conscious, shy little flower at other times and I think that’s what makes him so amazing.  Key’s live singing is pretty good, although I’m going to go ahead and say that he struggled the most(?).  But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t awesome.  Key is also a phenomenal dancer, like, PHENOMENAL.  I think overall Key comes across as the most theatrical in SHINee, if that makes any sense.  He’s such a strong performer and while everyone in SHINee performs the hell out of everything, I think Key throws himself into it the most.

Minho: So, I’ll be honest, Minho fell a little flat for me at the concert.  That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t incredible, and it also doesn’t mean that I’m not obsessed with Minho, because I totally am, but he didn’t leave as much of an impression like the other 4.  However, I’ll talk about what I do remember.  ^^  Minho, first of all, is the king of aegyo.  Like during Girls, Girls, Girls he was so into it, like go watch a fancam, he is literally so serious.  Minho is also a really good dancer, and he had a lot of neat moments where the dance would highlight him because of his raps.  Minho is also, -wait for it- a great singer and he always does really well live.  This time was no different.  One of my favorite things was during Sleepless Nights, they actually sang all the harmonies (because SHINee is boss like that) and MInho’s part is like an octave lower, and it sounds so beautiful.  *Forever wishing that minho would sing more*

Taemin: So Taemin is my bias in SHINee, and I’ll be the first to admit that my eyes sort of automatically slide to him when I’m watching SHINee perform.  Taemin as a performer takes himself really, really seriously.  I think we all know that Taemin is a derpy ball of cute sometimes, but he’s also a deeply talented performer and he is extremely good at what he does.  Taemin’s dancing was of course incredible (duh), and his live singing was actually really great, too.  Taemin’s voice has that unique breathiness that honestly lends for it to do well live because any pitch inaccuracies can be easily muffled by his tone, but I think of all the times I’ve seen SHInee live, this was his strongest vocal performance to date.  During the epic/fierce performances, Taemin dances and sings his heart out and puts his game face on, but during the more aegyo-y, silly performances he sometimes looks a little lost.  (And I loveee that about him??).  In  my opinion, Taemin seems to have the hardest time just letting go and having fun and being himself on stage.  That doesn't mean he doesn't do it, but I think he's more reserved than the other members.  (Some people might disagree with me?)

Sorry, I totally wrote a book.  I always get lost in waxing poetic about shinee and it’s ridiculous but I can’t help myself ㅋㅋㅋ.

In conclusion, SHINee are amazing performers who sing their guts out and perform the hell out of everything.
