about.
he grew up in some town in texas to a father who was a music teacher and a mother who was a tax accountant. he was the middle kid; having one older brother and one younger sister.
learning the strings came natural for him. in fact, music ran rampant with both his siblings. by the time he was nine, theo was picking up the guitar and banging on the drums. he was put into music lessons quickly after.
fame came to him at a mall. yes, you read that right. it was pretty random but his mom was ecstatic when the talent agent spotted them. the lady said he had the look -whatever that meant.
it’s a scam - his dad would say in between sips of coffee, which always garnered a glare from across the kitchen table. after about seven no’s, his eighth audition finally brought back promising news. all that was needed was him in front of a piano and a script that asked for singing. when casting found he had a voice and was multitalented with instruments, they jumped at the opportunity.
he was fifteen when he got his first break. it was a kids sitcom, sure, but he was young himself and it was a lead role. he’d play austin moon; an extroverted, fun-loving singer and instrumentalist.
at one point, production tried to dye his hair blonde for the pilot episode but his mom put a stop to that. no one touched those baby browns.
los angeles would become his new home away from home, until eventually it was home. see, when disney announced they were greenlighting austin & ally as a series, his parents came to the agreement it was time they made the move from texas to los angeles permanently.

— the story begins with a japanese architect who travels europe and falls in love with first the buildings, and then a german-american street artist who set up every dawn to capture the cobblestones and morning light splashed across the world. eventually they marry, and two years later, they welcome a baby girl into their lives. jaime wilson breathes in her first breath in a berlin hospital, crisp morning air before the humidity set in just like her father loved so much to paint in. her time in berlin is short lived, not even long enough for it to take hold in her memory before they move to the united states, following her mother’s ambition and growing popularity as an architect and her father’s desire for new scenery.
— they settle in terrytown, ny 25 miles north of manhattan in a small but cozy house with a large backyard and it is here that jaime was raised. her mother was absent much of the day, making the commute south to work in her firm, so it was largely her father that raised her, showing her the beauty of the world. an ARTIST’S eye soon blossoms within her. she plays with her father’s paints, draws chicken scratch drawings on scraps of paper and then one fateful day, she receives a child’s polaroid camera. she falls in love with photography, eventually graduating from polaroid to digital — that artist’s eye picking out the most beautiful shots.
— but her childhood is not just all artsy moments and butterfly beauty. her parents were the outdoorsy sort, when they had time, on the weekends and going north to the adirondacks when longer breaks allowed. she grew up hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing in the wilderness — undeniably the type who’d certainly easily survive a week alone in the woods but wouldn’t recognize the most basic of mainstream media references. she ran cross-country and played lacrosse for her high school, and though she learned how to skate, it was more limited to having fun and skating on the lake than playing hockey since her parents thought it was too dangerous.

— nyu is everything she dreamed and more. her personable attitude gets her an RA position her sophomore and junior years to pay for housing, a financial help for sure. the same personable attitude means she forms meaningful connections and nurtures a rapidly growing network.
— at the tailend of her sophomore year, she’s lucky enough to land an internship with one of the top photo companies in the city. this shoves her into a whole new world she’s wholly unfamiliar with : one built on fashion and modeling. but she soaks up this new world like a sponge, willing to learn and beginning to see a career for herself. she was just the photographer, behind the camera — no one cared if she faded away in the background.
— new york is a city where paths cross, between the famous and the mundane and jaime’s internship put her in a place to increase that probability. she met alex on a shoot for his new album cover, the one that the single that shot up straight into musical fame would be on. and sometimes chemistry is undeniable and they clicked almost IMMEDIATELY.
— her ragamuffin label came on pretty early, way back when the first paparazzi photos of her surfaced with her rising star musician boyfriend and the media called her appearance tragic in not so many words. she had never cared that much about her appearance before. that is simply who she was : a photographer and a student athlete, and she wasn’t going to change that for anyone. that embracing of her imperfections endeared her with many people and perhaps further explained her following even though she was “simply” just a girlfriend. a lot of people felt they could relate to her.
— it wasn’t a life she had predicted for herself, but it was a fun one that lasted for over two years. the fame was a symptom she didn’t care for, but she did care for alex so she took it in stride. she finished her degree, moved to LA with alex, and began a lot of freelance work where she could get it, though alex told her over and over that she didn’t need to do anything. but she wanted to keep at her craft, though it was nice that she didn’t have to worry about finances as much.
— her and alex : it wasn’t a toxic relationship by any means. though the media critiqued her appearance plenty, they were also the perfect fairytale story : a grand rising star falling in love with an ordinary, imperfect girl, how romantic. for a long time, she was truly happy ; they were a poster print for true love. and there was true love there and in the end, it simply wasn’t meant to be. the truth was it fizzled long before jaime broke up with him. she was tired of being less girlfriend and more therapist, more caretaker, more everything than his girlfriend. he was away a lot and even when he was around he seemed absent, eyes wandering. he made offhand comments about her appearance when he never had before. and when talking didn’t seem to lead anywhere — well, jaime wilson never wasted her time with something or someone that didn’t make her happy.
— their breakup didn’t remain secret very long before it was splashed across headlines. and it certainly was no secret when alex released a new album only two months later, very obviously a response to their breakup. it was bitter humor that she felt upon that — too little, too late, feelings he hadn’t shown her for much of the latter part of their relationship even when she’d tried to communicate with him. and so if she’d laughed upon hearing its release, well you can’t really blame her.

— down to earth is the only way to explain jaime’s attitude towards most things. not much phases her and though like anyone she loves to receive compliments, she doesn’t let it go to her head. even at the height of her proxy fame, she tried to remain true to herself, even if it meant harsh critique from the media ; that is what was most important to her.
— she wants to live in the moment and is a fun-loving type of girl, though not necessarily in the getting drunk and partying type of way. that just means she won’t waste her time doing something she doesn’t want to if she doesn’t think there’s a possibility it’ll pay out. fun is just as easily having a movie night and staying up too late getting sick on ice cream. sometimes the best memories come from having no plan at all, so why change that ??

— 5′8″, a slim but athletic build. jaime lives an active life and is rather toned, and spends her due type in the gym or ( more often ) doing body weight workouts on the floor of her apartment. however she tries not to push unrealistic images out onto her social accounts.
— black hair naturally straight with the smallest bit of wave to it usually worn down or back in a braid. she doesn’t use product in it so she’s extremely prone to flyaways and tends to look a little scruffy even when she tries ( one of the reasons for her “ragamuffin” title ), dark brown and friendly eyes.
— mannerisms : quick to smile and laugh, sits with an open posture the opposite of demure but it reads relaxed not promiscuous, there’s an ease to which she moves that sports helped her to gain, doesn’t hesitate to get to odd positions ( anything for the perfect shot )
— style : jaime mostly employs athleisure type style, though not even the aesthetic kind you see in fabletics ads. it’s anything comfortable with little thought given to if it matches. think female college athlete because part of her has never truly left that part of her life, fashion wise anyway. it also works with her highly active life and allows her to get into any position if the perfect shot makes itself known.

when it comes to family, kyu always makes it clear to her interviewers that questions about them are off-limits beforehand. little is known about her past by the general public, but in truth, her parents went their separate ways within a year of her birth and left her to be raised by her single paternal grandmother. she knows very little about her mother, having never met her face to face and only been in contact via the exceedingly rare phone call or christmas gift sent from afar. her father remained somewhat of a part of her life, paying occasional visits and showing up to her school plays every now and then, but there was only so much his own mother’s insistence could do to make him dad material.
as a result, her grandmother is the only one she views as a parental figure, and she grew up calling her eomma. it wasn’t until she started kindergarten, and saw the doting mothers and fathers that brought her classmates to school and attended events with them that she began to realize her family unit was unconventional; she’d always assumed the nuclear households she saw on her favorite shows like franklin and little bear were the exception, rather than the rule. curiosity stirred within her, but her grandmother was sparing with details and seemed tremendously sad anytime she brought it up - nobody wants the unenviable task of explaining to a child why their parents don’t want them, after all - so she gave up on that line of questioning before long and was left to gradually piece together the story on her own throughout the years. an aunt of hers who’d always looked at kyungji like she hung the moon ( and the feeling was mutual ) helped out here and there with stories and pictures.
as the conclusion crept up on her that her father was unequipped for parenthood, her mother simply uninterested, she slowly mastered the skill of shutting herself off to any emotion and painting on a mask of indifference. it softened the blow, but nothing could shield her from the pain entirely. she’d always idealized her father - it’s remarkably easy to do so, for someone who isn’t around all the time - but she withdrew from him without warning and all at once, resolved to never need or want his attention or approval again. it was easier said than done, and to this day he doesn’t fully understand why she only treats him with cold civility now, but she’s been relatively successful in that goal.
her mother has been all too eager to get back in contact now that her daughter’s made it big. kyu never returns her calls.
in school, she was considered a ‘gifted’ child, always excelling academically and making it look easy. her grandmother’s and teachers’ hearts were swelling with pride and high hopes for her future, but it meant nothing to her but a target on her back. she’d never been popular, known for the most part as the resident weird kid, and her so-called intelligence was just one more aspect that set her apart from others. besides, she’d always been more drawn to the arts and the stage, and being booksmart just gave those around her more reason to discourage her from pursuing her true interests. in middle school, she finally found her niche ( and a natural talent for acting ) with the theatre club and forged friendships that are still alive and well.
she worked tirelessly at honing her acting skills from then on, and her grades suffered for it but she’d never been happier. at 18, she was scouted at a community theatre performance of phantom of the opera, where she played christine. her career took a bit to get off the ground, mostly small parts and modeling here and there until, at 20, she landed the lead in the upcoming film american psycho. ( haven’t decided what to name her yet? patrice bateman? patricia bateman? tricia/trixie? thoughts?? ) the film enjoyed substantial success and positive reviews from critics, especially for kyu’s performance in particular.
she was approached with invitations to auditions and outright offered roles in some cases, but she declined, until she didn’t. two years later, she was cast as deuteragonist jessie pinkman in breaking bad, which is now in its fourth season.

glass cannon - i’m not saying kyu’s in love, but... she wants to be. not out of any desire for genuine romance, but because she believes the angst of an unrequited passion for someone will add further depth and character to her acting. the things that attract her to people are difficult to pin down, but she’d likely find someone who checked enough of her boxes and arbitrarily choose them to be the object of her so-called affections. the press might even know about it, latching onto the story like vultures and writing think pieces about how a particularly emotional performance by kyu was inspired by this person ripping her heart out for the twentieth time.
a real fake - kyu isn’t the type to have a large circle of real friends; even though she’s an extrovert, she still keeps most people at arm’s length without them really noticing. she knows how to distract others from getting below the surface by talking convincingly enough about just about anything else. so to have met someone in LA who managed to not only see past it but also get around her defenses enough to befriend her, she’d count herself lucky beyond measure. they’d know everything about her, be one of the only people who can calm her down when she snaps, and there may be a level of codependence between the two.
