HIGHLIGHTS.
a large amount of her following came as a result of her long term relationship with a star musician, though she’s managed to carve her own niche even after her break up with him ; a fun-loving personality that doesn’t take things too seriously, except her art ; openly bi ; known as the ragamuffin because of her “natural” appearance when the first photos of her hit the internet, but it’s something she’s long embraced ; hardly a household name, but a rising name in celebrity circles because of the excellent behind the scenes creative work she does ; she knows who she is but not necessarily what she wants.
THE STORY.
— the story begins with a japanese architect who travels europe and falls in love with first the buildings, and then a german-american street artist who set up every dawn to capture the cobblestones and morning light splashed across the world. eventually they marry, and two years later, they welcome a baby girl into their lives. jaime wilson breathes in her first breath in a berlin hospital, crisp morning air before the humidity set in just like her father loved so much to paint in. her time in berlin is short lived, not even long enough for it to take hold in her memory before they move to the united states, following her mother’s ambition and growing popularity as an architect and her father’s desire for new scenery.
— they settle in terrytown, ny 25 miles north of manhattan in a small but cozy house with a large backyard and it is here that jaime was raised. her mother was absent much of the day, making the commute south to work in her firm, so it was largely her father that raised her, showing her the beauty of the world. an ARTIST’S eye soon blossoms within her. she plays with her father’s paints, draws chicken scratch drawings on scraps of paper and then one fateful day, she receives a child’s polaroid camera. she falls in love with photography, eventually graduating from polaroid to digital — that artist’s eye picking out the most beautiful shots.
— but her childhood is not just all artsy moments and butterfly beauty. her parents were the outdoorsy sort, when they had time, on the weekends and going north to the adirondacks when longer breaks allowed. she grew up hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing in the wilderness — undeniably the type who’d certainly easily survive a week alone in the woods but wouldn’t recognize the most basic of mainstream media references. she ran cross-country and played lacrosse for her high school, and though she learned how to skate, it was more limited to having fun and skating on the lake than playing hockey since her parents thought it was too dangerous.
— her high school art teacher nurtures her photography talent further, and she excels in leaps and bounds : part natural talent, part willingness to learn and grow. her artistic eye extends to videography, long and panning aesthetic shots that she pieces together to create beautiful short films. her talents grow in other aspects to : specifically on the lacrosse field, agile and fluid and hard to catch, making her an effective attackman.
— she applies to colleges and hears back from some, but none more exciting than new york university with its prestigious photography program and a nice academic scholarship to boot. she is also allowed to continue her lacrosse career on nyu’s diii team.
— nyu is everything she dreamed and more. her personable attitude gets her an RA position her sophomore and junior years to pay for housing, a financial help for sure. the same personable attitude means she forms meaningful connections and nurtures a rapidly growing network.
— at the tailend of her sophomore year, she’s lucky enough to land an internship with one of the top photo companies in the city. this shoves her into a whole new world she’s wholly unfamiliar with : one built on fashion and modeling. but she soaks up this new world like a sponge, willing to learn and beginning to see a career for herself. she was just the photographer, behind the camera — no one cared if she faded away in the background.
— new york is a city where paths cross, between the famous and the mundane and jaime’s internship put her in a place to increase that probability. she met alex on a shoot for his new album cover, the one that the single that shot up straight into musical fame would be on. and sometimes chemistry is undeniable and they clicked almost IMMEDIATELY.
— her ragamuffin label came on pretty early, way back when the first paparazzi photos of her surfaced with her rising star musician boyfriend and the media called her appearance tragic in not so many words. she had never cared that much about her appearance before. that is simply who she was : a photographer and a student athlete, and she wasn’t going to change that for anyone. that embracing of her imperfections endeared her with many people and perhaps further explained her following even though she was “simply” just a girlfriend. a lot of people felt they could relate to her.
— it wasn’t a life she had predicted for herself, but it was a fun one that lasted for over two years. the fame was a symptom she didn’t care for, but she did care for alex so she took it in stride. she finished her degree, moved to LA with alex, and began a lot of freelance work where she could get it, though alex told her over and over that she didn’t need to do anything. but she wanted to keep at her craft, though it was nice that she didn’t have to worry about finances as much.
— her and alex : it wasn’t a toxic relationship by any means. though the media critiqued her appearance plenty, they were also the perfect fairytale story : a grand rising star falling in love with an ordinary, imperfect girl, how romantic. for a long time, she was truly happy ; they were a poster print for true love. and there was true love there and in the end, it simply wasn’t meant to be. the truth was it fizzled long before jaime broke up with him. she was tired of being less girlfriend and more therapist, more caretaker, more everything than his girlfriend. he was away a lot and even when he was around he seemed absent, eyes wandering. he made offhand comments about her appearance when he never had before. and when talking didn’t seem to lead anywhere — well, jaime wilson never wasted her time with something or someone that didn’t make her happy.
— their breakup didn’t remain secret very long before it was splashed across headlines. and it certainly was no secret when alex released a new album only two months later, very obviously a response to their breakup. it was bitter humor that she felt upon that — too little, too late, feelings he hadn’t shown her for much of the latter part of their relationship even when she’d tried to communicate with him. and so if she’d laughed upon hearing its release, well you can’t really blame her.
— she had expected her “fame” to decline significantly after her decision to break up with alex, but to her surprise it hadn’t. being an inspiration wasn’t something she’s foreseen when she decided to leave him, but in a way that’s what she became. people had already been looking at her, and somehow she held their attention even without her famous boyfriend at her side — something he’d told her wasn’t possible.

— her own brand grew stronger when she took to doing her own q&a’s on instagram and posting more day in her life videos, though they didn’t quite follow a vlogging type style. she instead fused her aesthetic eye and serene video quality to her life. they are largely unnarrated and often don’t feature herself, instead focusing on the world around her. this has resulted in an interesting sort of take on day in her life videos. most of her own personality is shown extensively on her instagram story that she posts religiously to. she also gained followers during her trip across europe and in japan when she posted a lot and created several videos of the same non-narrated blog type which helped to jumpstart her post-alex’s gf career.
— what exactly jaime does now even she can’t define. it’s been six months since her break up with alex and she’s still figuring things out. she makes money off freelance work and works part time with a photography studio. somewhere deep down she does have a desire to be a true photographer and carve a name for herself in that. she’s a youtuber in a sense : her videos are always highly consumed though she wouldn’t define herself as such. she’s also an influencer according to some media, though exactly what she influences remains lost on her. it definitely isn’t fashion. and of course, there remains the truth that many of her followers were gained because she dated alex, but why they stay ?? that’s all her. maybe her job is just professional viber.
— the truth of the matter is, jaime is very average at many things, making her a jack of most trades, save for photography and videography. she’s a curious person and will try anything at least once just to make sure she doesn’t like it.
— recently, she has helped produced some music videos for indie artists — mostly friends of friends or something of the sort. she’s thoroughly enjoyed it and it has piqued her interest in possibly creative directing, though she knows she’s a long way from having the experience to do that.
— she also does work helping people take and curate photos for their instagrams. something she finds kind of ironic as it goes against her nature of being spontaneous and natural.
— her fame is no doubt a quieter fame, certainly not a household name though her name is known in celebrity circles because of her break up and because she has slowly been building a new career for herself behind the curtain thanks to her creative eye.
— she’s most known to her fans for her spontaneous instagram live q&as that are often at odd hours and cover a wide range of topics. often she’s in her pajamas and occasionally has a friend on with her.
— she has always been very open about being bisexual, even when she dated alex. she attends pride every year and though it’s not her brand, it is something that very engrained with her. it’s no surprise that a lot of her followers are also on the lgbtqa+ spectrum.
— she is not a model, though she has been in a couple photoshoots as an extra and warm body because she was hanging around the set and they needed someone to balance out the shot.
— owns a ragamuffin cat ( the breed ) because she saw her in an aspca ad and couldn’t resist. also it was way too perfect to pass up. her name is melon and she loves her very much. melon is featured in many of her videos and the backgrounds of her instagram lives a ton. melon also means pretty much everything she owns is covered in cat hair but... that’s life ( and totally worth it ).
— she loves smoothies. honestly so much of her instagram is dedicated to finding the best smoothie in the city tbh.
— lives in a small studio apartment. definitely a very clean and minimal style to it. lots of natural wood tones and plants. she’s... okay at keeping plants alive.
— finds cooking to be a laborious and necessary task though she turns out pretty decent meals ( honestly it’s the clean up that annoys her the most ).
— embroiders as a hobby because it helps calm her mind. her camera straps and backpacks are all embroidered by her.
— she is trilingual, the result of a german father and korean mother, and of course her upbringing in the united states. her multilinquism made her first dream job as a child to be an airline stewardess.
PERSONALITY.
— down to earth is the only way to explain jaime’s attitude towards most things. not much phases her and though like anyone she loves to receive compliments, she doesn’t let it go to her head. even at the height of her proxy fame, she tried to remain true to herself, even if it meant harsh critique from the media ; that is what was most important to her.
— she wants to live in the moment and is a fun-loving type of girl, though not necessarily in the getting drunk and partying type of way. that just means she won’t waste her time doing something she doesn’t want to if she doesn’t think there’s a possibility it’ll pay out. fun is just as easily having a movie night and staying up too late getting sick on ice cream. sometimes the best memories come from having no plan at all, so why change that ??
— she’s practical and believes in a logical approach to everything, though that logical approach may not be clear to anyone but herself. she doesn’t believe in shortcuts, and when she does something, she wants it done right. this small sense of perfectionism may seem at odds with her down to earth personality, but she takes great pride in her work and her art — that just doesn’t extend to much else. she’ll take risks and step outside of the box — things she views as necessary as an artist.
— her demeaner is SUNNY, and it’s no surprise that she did manage to win people over ( no matter what tabloids said in spite of her appearance ). with an outgoing and open vibe, she’s not one to hide things and her candid attitude has helped carve out her rags to riches-ish niche following. she’s a person people want to love and that has long worked in her favor whether she knows it or not.
— people feels she has a trustworthy air to her ; perhaps that’s due to the fact she’s so open about herself. but those that press on that and confide in her will find she’s a good listener, and can have a helpful point of view or input.
— but she’s lackadaisical when it comes to true goals in her life and it can sometimes be very difficult to tell what she really wants. she can be a little too go with the flow for some people, which tends to translate into having no ambition or drive. that is maybe partly true : the strongest she’d felt was when she was so sure that she wanted to be a photographer back in undergrad and then her life was turned upside down. she’s very much still on a journey to find herself now, to figure out what she truly wants from life. but that doesn’t mean she isn’t content with her life as it is : in fact, she’s more than happy to simply vibe it out and take every day as it comes. maybe she should be having a crisis over it, but she’s not. she figures she’ll figure it out when she figures it out.
APPEARANCE.
— 5′8″, a slim but athletic build. jaime lives an active life and is rather toned, and spends her due type in the gym or ( more often ) doing body weight workouts on the floor of her apartment. however she tries not to push unrealistic images out onto her social accounts.
— black hair naturally straight with the smallest bit of wave to it usually worn down or back in a braid. she doesn’t use product in it so she’s extremely prone to flyaways and tends to look a little scruffy even when she tries ( one of the reasons for her “ragamuffin” title ), dark brown and friendly eyes.
— mannerisms : quick to smile and laugh, sits with an open posture the opposite of demure but it reads relaxed not promiscuous, there’s an ease to which she moves that sports helped her to gain, doesn’t hesitate to get to odd positions ( anything for the perfect shot )
— style : jaime mostly employs athleisure type style, though not even the aesthetic kind you see in fabletics ads. it’s anything comfortable with little thought given to if it matches. think female college athlete because part of her has never truly left that part of her life, fashion wise anyway. it also works with her highly active life and allows her to get into any position if the perfect shot makes itself known.
— jewelry : nothing consistently, but prefers bronze toned metals when she does. isn’t big on jewels and gravitates toward handmade pieces, especially hammered metals and pieces that look a little “imperfect”

— scars : her knees and legs are a lot banged up from a too-active childhood of climbing trees and running around in the woods. she’s proud of her scars though not everyone in the fashion and celebrity circles sees it that way. back when she graced red carpets on the arm of her man makeup artists used to cover them or had her wear flesh tone tights.
