Colette just keeps staring at him with an unnervingly persistent smile, waiting for her gift.
Holiday’s were stupid, and a waste of time. At least that’s what Bazz had thought for as long as he could remember. What was the point? He didn’t get along with anyone well enough to expend the energy of gift giving, he didn’t feel anyone was worth it... Which had been the case until he had met Benny. In the beginning it had been the same for her too. They weren’t anything more than a casual fling, both of them seeking some mild reprieve in the other. Yet as time had gone on, that sentiment changed.
Benny had worked her way in and though for the longest time Bazz had chalked it up to her ability, he knew now that it wasn’t. He thought about her when she wasn’t around. He thought about the softness of her skin, the silk of her hair... the way when she smiled the apples of her cheeks lifted and flushed a dusty pink. He noticed the smaller things. How her nose scrunched up when she was upset, how her lips pouted when she was sad. Sometimes, Bazz thought, he had come to know her better than he knew himself.
Which was how he had gone about planning this Valentine’s Day. Not only did he know she would want to be spoiled, he knew how important the concept was. Had she been anyone else he would have scoffed at the notion of a day all about ‘love’. Perhaps a small part of him still did, lingering bitterness that would only be quelled sometime in the distance future. For her he would try though. Only for her.
“What’s that look for?” He asked, unable to entirely hide the smallest of smug grins trying its best to grow at the corner of his mouth. Bazz keeps his distance, despite everything in him urging him to move forward - to close the gap. He doesn’t want to fall under her spell just yet, all he needed was a bit more time before he’d allow himself to fall into her.
“C’mon, Benny. I’ve got somethin’ for you if you’re not just gonna stand there all day.” Bazz adds, ushering her to follow him to the familiar path of her room. It had been tricky to get inside without her noticing but thankfully Bambietta had claimed some of her time away from this area. Enough of it that he’d been able to do what he’d needed to.
They reach her room not too long after and Bazz gives her a wide grin, gloved hand grasping the handle and twisting it. “Close your eyes, no argument.”
Inside was a sight to behold, red, white and pink roses scattered about the room; some in vases and others simply as pools of petals. There are other items too, a small table with a few wrapped gifts. Ruby earrings inlaid in white gold, an assortment of sweets and a new set of baby pink lingerie ( which arguably was mostly for him ).
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Benny. Open your eyes.” He urged after pushing open the door, proud of himself and what he had accomplished this year. It certainly felt a bit ridiculous, as he had thought it would. Even a bit dramatic, seeing as he’d never cared to go this far before but... well, she had proven herself worth it. The very least he could do was meet some of her expectations for all she did for him.
