Considering zack's very deliberately played with anime tropes for pnat's whole runtime it wouldn't shock me if they're deliberately setting up bullymagnet and imaax stuff at the same time to put max in some ridiculous comedically slanted weird middleschooler shoujo love triangle situation (bashful boy-next-door thats too shy to be upfront vs confusing and sort of tragic tsundere badboy is not an Uncommon setup for these things)

i need insight into max's brain. he's still hard to get a read on occasionally, even after the switch to prose. Specifically in regards to his thoughts about Best Character In The Comic Name of Johnny Jhonny..,...... what are you thinking max what are you thinking about him i have to know. surely you must think about johnny as much as i do

i guess later in this chapter when he gets the right half of his body puppeted by a witch and gets saved by a forge spirit partner rerunning/rebooting/repeating history there will be time at least for left-brained introspection.

okay, but shipping goggles on, johnny almost always gets a reaction out of max. like, every time. i think that's why i ship them so much rather than the other popular max ship (read the only other one) imaax because max is very. calm around isaac. isaac is animated and dramatic in their interactions but usually max is just kind of there, while he and johnny are always on some shit whenever they so much as see each other. hate is not the opposite of love, apathy is, etc etc. not that i think max is apathetic toward isaac, they're friends, but you know what i mean.

maybe it's copium. i still believe. and if my ship should be sunk, well then i am just going to have to make some convenient OCs to transfer the shipping energy onto aren't i.

i know i’m all over the classic “max and johnny both have massive crushes and both are completely oblivious to the other’s massive crush”

but there is also all sorts of fun to be had with “johnny thinks he’s being slick but is painfully obvious about his crush on max and max is too busy thinking it’s [sarcastic voice] adorable to realize that he thinks johnny in general is [sincere voice] adorable”
