Tonight's voyage will begin within an hour!
Come help me weigh anchor and set sail on another journey in Shipwreck Bay!
Episode 2 - Tree Nursery
Shipwreck bay, Zante, Greece.
Shipwreck Bay and the Blue Caves.
Agios Nikolaos was also a convenient place to catch a local tripper boat for an excursion to the two gems of the northern part of Zakinthos.
Our first stop was at Shipwreck Bay, a remote beach with incredibly blue water and white sand, with a wreck of a cargo ship. Although amazing to see, the experience as such was rather crazy - there were so many people everywhere and so many tripper boats literally stopping on the beach, we felt like we landed in the middle of the Spring Break season :-) We tried to take a swim but it was rather hard with the fierce waves, the sheer amount of people in the water, and all the incoming boats.
After an hour of this madness we got back to our excursion boat and on the way back to Agios Nikolaos stopped to see the carved caves along the coast. We even got to go into one and admire the blue colour of the water and the rock formations above us. Martin even took a quick snorkel when the right occasion arose. And Thor decided he would take things in his own hands and drive our boat back ;-)
We stayed a couple of days in Agios Nikolaos and had some fantastic cycling. The remoteness of the nature around felt like a privilege and although immensely tiring as Zakinthos is really hilly, it was by far our favourite thing on the island.
On the way back from one of our trips we came across a beautiful old school, where a really friendly and interesting local lady told us some of the history of the place and I got to buy some delightful local produce. We felt like we got to experience the real Zakinthos in the end.
