This is what the pillow looked like when I bought it at a tag sale - because I felt sorry for it. One of the mirrors and most of the plain sequins were missing, and the pillow was old and faded. So - I worked on it:
I dyed it in maroon dye to bring color back, and replaced the missing mirror. I bought silver holographic sequins, and used as many of the plain sequins in the corners of the squares. I can bet this pillow never looked this good when it was new!
Sunlight, At Last! Everyone Sparkle!
After waiting how many weeks for a Renfaire that was not held in the rain, I went to the CT Renaissance Fair in Lebanon, CT and my bf shot this video! It was worth it to see the light sparkle off the rhinestones (over 800 of them!) holographic sequins, and shisha mirrors. I have waited a long time to get this video! Enjoy!

I spent 4 to 6 hours yesterday and 2 to 3 today to get this motif finished, All the beading had to be done in a hoop, and that means very careful ironing to remove the wrinkle without damaging the sequins nearby. There are three shisha mirrors, five colors of rhinestones in different sizes, three colors of holographic sequins, and seven colors of bugle beads; the comet is @ 9 inches long. I might add a few more silver rhinestones to the front so that there is more 'white-hot' at the front of the comet with the other colors trailing behind it.
This is a lot of handwork, folks! Every single element has to be put on the needle by hand.
Today I spent five hours stitching down the beads on 'The Comet' one of the central motifs on my Wizard umbrella. Bring on the rhinestones!
This is the largest motif on my wizard umbrella. It was a real joy trying to applique down a velvet circle onto a cotton fabric that was cut on the bias! This is about nine inches across. At this point, I feel that most of the embroidery and the bead work are completed for the umbrella, although I may go back and touch up or add to a few of the smaller motifs. Now, to start putting in the milky way made out of different colored and different sized rhinestones! Let the blinging begin!
The last of the small motifs for my wizard umbrella. This is about three inches across. It probably took longer to sew the beads down, than it did to do the embroidery around the mirror!
