Black Planet: Dark Cybertron Chapter 11
SPOILER ALERT!
Just a comment on what happens in that chapter.
My brother and parents are going out of town for a few days so I’ll be with my aunt. But THAT means that I’ll have much more time to edit and work on some projects!!
You got to do what you got to do. I feel so lucky that I got to see him before this day, and I’ll never forget all the emotions that I felt. Take care of yourself and stay healthy. I’m already missing you and I’m looking forward to the day you come back happily.
In case I don’t see ya good afternoon, good evening and 굿밤 💕
happy kpopversary to me 💕
LISTEN TO KPOP, IT FEELS GOOD* - a rant by MTJ
I just read a bunch of comments under some video about BTS breaking into the western music industry. There were a lot of comments that irked me, like "kpop is trash", "their music is trash", "they are copying american music and style", "everything sounds the same", "they're fap material for little girls", and other generally ignorant, hateful statements. And as someone who isn't a little girl, and who doesn't only care about kpop, I literally don't see any reason to hate it. Sure, someone might not like their music. It's their preference. I also don't like some genres, I don't even like every kpop song. But that doesn't mean they're thrash. There's no universal definition of "good" and "bad" music. I for example, like to listen to stuff from Kanye, Brockhampton, Tyler the Creator, through Bon Iver, Half Moon Run, to BTS, Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars. And all of that is good music to me, because it makes me feel good. I'm actually almost sure, that kpop is such a big mix of different genres that everyone could find something that sounds good for them.
People criticising kpop focus mainly on their "shit music". What they don't realise is that they don't call themselves solely "musicians". The music is maybe 1/7 of the things they offer as entertainers. Kpop is about singing, rapping, dancing, personalities, social media, fashion, and a lot of other stuff which you can't even name. They offer their fans the full package. Following the Korean mentality of being the best at everything that they do, they train very hard for many, many years to deliver the highest quality to their audience. The music might not suit someone's taste, but after watching Taemin's "Move", Seventeen's "Don't Wanna Cry", or a 3-fucking-hour-long EXO concert there's no way of denying that they're getting a high quality performance. They are geniuses at creating their image and a loyal fanbase, for which they actually care. They make the fans feel included, interested, and make them want to follow along their journey. They are good at that because they believe in what they do. They are 100% commited to their job. There's hardly ever a scandal involving a kpop star, in comparison to the western popstars. Due to their incredibly intense trainings, most of them are very humble and respect every other artist. They are aware of the role they're given, and of the impact they have on their audience. They're multitalented, since a lot of them are great at dancing, singing, rapping and are also good looking and charismatic. There's no way to call them trash, because they work way to hard for it.
If there wasn't enough pros about kpop, here we have BTS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, they're the first kpop group to actually talk about important social issues. They don't only make people happy, they're trying to make a change, influence young people in a positive way, create a better future, share awareness. That makes them legitimate artists, that use music as a way to express themselves. They mention issues, which are hardly ever brought up in Korean media, like mental health or homosexuality. All of that in the most simple way possible – through enterntainment. It's the easiest way to get a message across. And since they own the trust of milions all over the world, they are capable of great things.
About copying the American style. I agree that USA kind of defines music everywhere. Music created in every other country is influenced by what the American industry puts out. But still, there are so much different sounds and genres in kpop that you cannot name, and you definietly cannot find on the American radio. I listened to American music for 20 years of my life, and I got into kpop because it was like something I've never heard before. I'm no professional musician, but if someone needs that, the channel "ReacttotheK" shows classical musicians recognising the artistic value, and variety of genres and sounds in some kpop songs.
I think people also create a weird aura around stuff from the Asian market. From my European (Polish to be exact) point of view – everything that's Korean, Japanese or Chinese is automatically categorised as strange, different and foreign, and people don't take it seriously. They're kind of afraid of it. I had the same feelings for the majority of my life, because I was ignorant. Once I agreed to try and watch anime or listen to kpop, I saw that it is different from what I'm used to, but in a fascinating way. I learned a lot from just opening myself to the "'weird Asian stuff".
Maybe that's why people hate kpop. Because they're not used to it. I used to hate Broccoli, but I never actually tried it. Once I tried it, I found a way to season and cook it the way I like, and now I love it. I think that's how people should experience new things. Try it, but don't take it as it is, because it might not fit you. Just take what's good for you from it, and enjoy it the way you like. Because I never said I like everything about kpop. There are some songs or idols I dislike, but that doesn't mean that they don't deserve respect for their hard work.
But is it really that hard to just understand that kpop is fun? That it makes people happy? It makes people forget about their problems? It feels good, and it's not harming anyone – what is there to hate?
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read it, these thoughts have been boiling inside of me for quite a while. If anyone has some thoughts (agree or disagree), I would love to read them!~~
* the title is a phrase that JREKML uses at the end of his videos, and it perfectly expresses how I feel about kpop
happy sehunversary to @sehunspepper and god bless this day, bc if it didn't happen, I would not have so much fun these past 11 months
The other day I was in band and I was having a conversation about memes. Somehow the topic of the Bee movie came up and after he told me something I said no, that's not right. He insisted that it was and I told him I could pull up the Bee movie script for him right there. he didn't believe i had the whole bee movie script saved on my ipad. He underestimated the magnitude of my memes but I proved his ass wrong directly after class.
Moral of the story, bee movie script gives you street cred with the memers
Someone asked me what I was earlier today. I looked at my phone and then i looked them deadass in the face and said Sinning
