What was the subtle hints of Eugene being a Prince ? I've seen the series many times and I still can't note them.
The first clue is the season two promo poster:
Eugene appears on the Dark Kingdom side, backed by Adira (and with Vigor on his shoulder, but we all know the significance of Vigor and Eugene, what with how he kept staring at him).
Keep that in mind when looking at the concept poster that Shiyoon Kim designed for the series:
The next is literally Edmund’s eyes:

They deliberately gave Edmund and Eugene the same eyes.
And now I’m going to quote from @darkprince-eugene because she spearheaded the theory, and it’s a lot of stuff that I don’t feel like remembering on my own or paraphrasing.
And then, there’s some symbolism in Next Stop Anywhere and it’s reprise. In the former, both Rapunzel and Eugene sing a line alluding to the fact that Rapunzel has a literal piece of the sun in her; “I wanna show all the stars how stars oughta shine,” and “We’re gonna toss out the maps and follow the sun.” And then, in the latter, the very second verse, sung by Eugene, is “Who cares how dark it’ll be.” Now, that could be nothing, but I thought I would at least mention it.
[...]
And finally, Eugene sings “Next stop, anywhere! ‘Cause it’s time we went to be where we’re meant to be!” Now, that. That right there, is something. Where do you think you are meant to me, Eugene? Because, as we see later in the episode, he clearly wants to settle down and marry Rapunzel - and that definitely includes living in Corona. So, if they are venturing away from Corona, then why is Eugene singing about going where he’s meant to be?
In “Vigor the Visionary,” there’s even more foreshadowing!
Rapunzel is standing in front of the sun and Eugene is standing in front of the moon.
And now it’s time for the tarot reading, and what @darkprince-eugene took from that:
While I am currently working on a very long and detailed post about this whole episode and all of the possible hints it has to Dark Prince Eugene, I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the tarot cards! And while I will discuss the other cards and they’re possible meanings in the other post, I would like to talk about a specific one now…
THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE!
Now, in the episode we are led to believe that all of these cards, and specifically that one, are related to Angry and her journey. But upon a second viewing, I noticed something about the card.
All the symbols are related to Eugene. Maybe not Dark Prince Eugene, but still Eugene.
A pile of money, a heart with an arrow through it, a castle, and a boat.
Now, if you connect the money and the boat, you get Eugene’s old dream to live on an island that he owns, surrounded by enormous piles of money. And if you connect the heart and the castle, you get his new dream, which is Rapunzel.
But if you look at them as a whole, and you’re like me and have the Dark Prince theory on your mind constantly, you see what could be some of the most compelling evidence that the theory is correct.
The money and the castle both relate to him being a prince, the heart represents family, and the boat… that one is a little trickier, but it could symbolize the journey he must take to find his destiny (or maybe they have to cross a body of water to get to the Dark Kingdom? I’m not sure). The Wheel of Fortune is also a real tarot card that symbolizes change.
And while all of that I find very compelling, I must also draw your attention to the top of the card. The EYES. Those eyes look fairly familiar, wouldn’t you say?
The most important thing about the tarot reading, though, was that it was Eugene who paid Vigor, and not the girls. So it was actually Eugene’s fortune being read. There’s a whole potential DPE reading on the tarot spread Vigor used here (x)
And of course, in “Lost and Found” Demanitus told Eugene that he reflected Rapunzel’s light. What’s the most famous thing to reflect the sun’s light? The moon. And in that same episode, they made a point of pointing out that they don’t know Eugene’s birthday, in order to gear up for revealing his father.
There are more ideas that have been chronicled at @darkprince-eugene. I highly recommend you go through the archives.
