piggybacking off the straight edge izaya (sorry i have literally no one else in my life that knows wtf im talking abt) i think weed would fix at least HALF of shizuo's problems like someone *please* give this man a joint or something 😭
bitch forget weed — the man needs to go see a good therapist so he can finally sort out his trauma wounds 😂
anyways
yeah. if shizuo had a stoner!darling who got ripped with him, some of that aggression might just melt away. he has trauma. weed helps him forget if he needs to. simultaneously, it gives him a place to process safely if he wants to. you encourage him to talk about his feelings when he’s high — the pain he feels, the memories he harbours. though he might not say so, he’s grateful. he shows his gratitude through little nuzzles and cuddles when you’re hanging out. it’s weaved into the sureness of his arms, as he holds you after a long day of work. it’s embroidered into the small gifts he leaves on your bedside table for you to wake up to — because he knows how hard mornings can be for you. and it’s cut into the fabric of the clothes he buys you with what’s left over from his pay check after he pays his rent for the month. over time, he folds into you effortlessly, never encountering a romance like this before. god he grows to love you so much. it makes him wanna take care of you as you’ve taken care of him.
Summary: Fluff fic, reader tries to ask out Shizuo, but they are only acquainted through Celty soooo yeah.

Today was just another normal day for you on the outside, you had just got done with your boring office job and as it was the weekend now you decided to head down to your favorite bar... Well, it wasn't actually your favorite, as far as favorites go you didn't have one but the bar tender was hellaaaa cute and handsome so that made it your favorite.
You trotted in with a smile on your face and sat down on a red velvety stool at the bar. Looking around you tried to search for your new crush as- "hey there, it's you again today" you turned around to find Shizuo they guy you liked talking to you. "Hello to you too! yep it's me" you exlaimed super excited to see Shizuo.
-"So, what can I get for you?"
-"A scotch on the rocks with a twist would be great please and thank you"
-"Coming right up" You couldn't help but smile as he prepared your drink the way the dim lights of the bar shined off of his face so beautifully was mesmerizing. 'Alright you know what?! today is the day I ask him out!' you thought while looking down at the bar top with a determined look on you face "here's your drink, one scotch on the rocks with a twist"
"Oh yes, thank you" you shot up with a pink tinge on your cheeks hoping he didn't see the weird look on your face. As he walked the other way to serve someone else you couldn't help but stare. He was just so pretty it was honestly so unfair.
You started having second thoughts about your confession 'how could I land a guy like that? honestly, I shouldn't even try, maybe next weekend.' You snapped yourself out of your thoughts 'No! that's what you said last week, you ARE doing this' you suddenly took a big swig of your drink. The liquor burned your throat at the suddenness, and you started coughing a bit.
"Hey, are you okay over here?" Shizuo asked and you looked up "oh yeah I'm perfectly fine just went down the wrong pipe, haha..." gosh that was so embarrassing you thought to yourself as he spoke up again.
"So how is Celty and the doc? They doing okay, got any leads?"
"Oh, um yeah, they're fine as far as I know" Right the only reason you two knew each other was because Celty asked you both to help her with her mission. Honestly you couldn't be happier to help out an old friend and get a bit of a thrill out of it not to mention the hot new friend. Hehe.
A few hours had passed by, and you were getting pretty tipsy which was the perfect mood for you to ask your bold question.
"HeyYyyYYy Shizuo!" you called him over with slurred speech and he came over to you with your flushed cheeks and lidded eyes.
"What is it [Name]? do you want me to finally close your tab?"
"Hehe, not a chance! I actually have a little something to ask of you" you were a giggling mess but none the less Shizuo decided to entertain your question.
"Alright hit me with it" he demanded you get straight to the point in an exasperated tone.
Leaning forward in your seat you got rather close to his face and asked; "would you care to go on a date with me?" you were practically giddy with a sly smirk on your face; Shizuo's face wasn't much different he was shocked that you of all people would ask him that. What with his reputation for getting into fights and breaking stuff out in the streets he didn't get many date offers either. He quite frankly preferred it stay that way as well. Seeing as he knew jack about you,
"Listen [Name] I think you are a really great person-"
"Then why not go on one little date with me?" you cut him off which made a vein pop on his forehead
"BUT! I don't know you all that well, I mean the only reason I do know you in the first place is through Celty so I'm going to have to say no..." He had a sad and caring look on his face as he said that which was awfully rare.
*SIGH* you let out a large sigh as you backed up away from him and rested your head on the bar top. "Awwwwww, I guess I get your reasoning, can't blame me for trying though" you tried to shrug off the sting of rejection, but it wasn't working as you started to tear up.
"Hey hey hey! Don't go crying because of me..." you sniffled as he let out a large sigh. "You know I don't know you very well which is why I said no but... If you really do like me maybe we can get to know each other better and hang out or something" Shizuo had a large blush on his cheeks as he offered this up, *sniff sniff* "really??" you sniffled as you asked and looked up at him with pleading eyes. "You'd really be willing to give me a chance?"
"Yeah of course I would, I mean you are the only person to really ever show interest in me like this, so I'd be a jerk to not even give you a chance..." He was now blushing MAD CRAZY right now and could barely keep eye contact with you.
All of a sudden you jumped across the bar countertop at him with your arms wide open and tackled him with a big hug. "Uh-uh what are you doing?! What brought this on?!" He yelled at you in confusion still standing sturdy as he does.
"You're so nice Shizuo! I promise I'll treat you right Shizuo!!" You exclaimed with a drunken slur.
"Yeah, yeah I think it's time to get home now [Name]" He patted you on the head and stood you up right as he pushed you to the door and put your coat on your shoulders as you slipped your arms through it.
"Get home safe alright [Name]?" He ushered you out the door, but you turned around quickly and wrapped your arms around his torso in one last hug. "Alright I will Shizuo" you looked up at him with endearing eyes as you turned away and left out the door.
Shizuo just stood there stunned as he watched you leave with a slight blush on his cheeks as he 'though yeah maybe getting to know them would be an okay idea' he turned away and closed the door behind him going back to tidy up before closing for the day.
Author's note: Ah my first request! I hope it turned out okay, have a good day or night y'all!
Also does anyone know how to make a word count on here? I tried to put it into like google docs but I'm writing this on a Dell/windows computer and the closest thing I can get to google docs is an app I have to pay for, but I would like to add a word count to future fics.
On a day where you are separated from Shizuo, everyone suddenly has a lot to talk about with you.
Warning: Intercourse
You didn’t spend much time at the store by yourself. You can’t get your mind off of what Izaya said to you, that he was the only one you could trust. Why weren’t you able to trust Shizuo? He’s such a sweet and kind man, even explaining to you why he hated Izaya before letting you go out. You don’t know why but you never mentioned to him that day Izaya visited you at your hospital bed. You had forgotten due to all the medication but now, after learning his history with Izaya, it’s better not to upset him.
You wanted to figure out your family’s phone numbers so you could talk to them. There has to be some clues or something. Anything to help you identify yourself without just being told by someone else.
You got to the edge of the street, cars were moving so quickly, even running red lights. You sigh at everyone’s recklessness. Your accident has always caused you to internally cringe at how people take their time behind the wheel for granted. You wish that you could remember things about your life in Japan and Ikebukuro.
You press the button on the traffic light and as you wait, a man stands next to you. You don’t recognize him but he’s holding a bat. He doesn’t acknowledge you but you notice him from the corner of your eye. Then approaches another man, wearing similar attire that stands on the other side of you. You understand that Ike is full of gangs but as long as you mind your business, they’d never pick on a lady like you. Unless…
A third man comes and stands just behind you. The light turns red and the streets clear just enough for everyone to cross. You begin walking and the men follow you. Your anxiety flares when you see that there are men on the other side of the street as well, waiting.
Before you could escape, they all surrounded you. “E-Excuse me,” You firm your voice yet you can’t help but sound nervous. This earns a snicker from one of the men. “Not so tough when you don’t got that dog ass bartender walking on your heels.” The man takes a step closer and you take a step back. Your back hits the chest of the man behind you who pushes you into the man in front of you. You yelp, almost falling but a third man grabs you so that you can’t move anymore.
“Word on the street that you got hurt real bad and now you don’t remember shit.” He says, your senses screaming at you to run but you know you can’t. Another chimes in. “That means that she doesn’t remember what she did to our boy Gorou.”
“M-Me? No, you have me mistaken for someone else.” You shake your head. “Maybe she’s faking it to save her ass and act all innocent for sympathy.”
“I’m not! You have the wrong woman!” You yell. Bystanders move away from the gang members, preferring to let the police get involved instead of risking getting hurt. “You made our boss commit suicide. All the bad shit that happened to him was because of you! He’s dead while you’re here!” The man readies his bat, raising it high in the air while they all enclose you in. This was so terrifying, you could fathom or process what was going on.
Just before the weapon can make contact with you, you hear something completely odd. Something you’d never hear in the middle of an urban city. A horse, neighing. The familiar sound echoed in your mind and once again, you feel a flash of what your life used to be and who you were but before you can comprehend it, it’s gone.
A black blur obscures your vision, striking the men around you. The commotion causes you to fall over but now you’re free. In the street appears a motorcycle and the people around you gasp.
“C-Celty?” You blink at her, still in shock. Already, she’s shoving her phone in your face. “Please, come with me, more are coming.”
“O-Okay!” You hurry to your feet and get on the back of her bike. Dark shadows surround your vision and a helmet that fits perfectly on your head materializes. The vehicle pulls off at inhuman speed yet you don’t seem to fall off. You expect Celty to bring you back to Shizuo’s but you don’t seem to recognize the path you're on.
It’s over the sound of jet black motorcycle where you aren’t able to hear the sound of Shizuo calling your phone. A motorcycle that sounds like a horse. Huh.
Celty takes you to a side of town that isn’t so populated at this time of day. She drives into a parking garage and goes to the highest floor where no cars reside.
She parks and you’re able to get off.
“Thanks for saving me back there.” You say but just as your helmet dissolves you see her phone.
“We need to talk about something important.”
“Um…” You get off the motorcycle and so does she.
“It’s been a while since you recovered. Please, can you tell me if you remember anything?”
You shakes your head but before you can speak she types again. “You’re the one person I can rely on. I need you to remember.”
“I don’t know what you’re asking me to remember, Celty. I—”
“My head. You told me you knew where it was.”
Your stomach does a flip. “…your head?”
“Once Shizuo told us you couldn’t remember anything, I told him that I wanted to be the one to tell you.”
“I don’t understand…”
“I know you’ve been through a lot, just promise you won’t scream.”
Without further warning, Celty removed her helmet, revealing a head with no body. Smoke puffed from where a wound would be. You want to scream, but you don’t. “Does seeing me like this make you remember anything?”
Your eyes dart from her phone to where her head should be. You vaguely remember something like this, like it's on the tip of your tongue but…
“I-I’m sorry, Celty, but I can’t help you.”
If she had a head, you could tell it was hanging in sorrow. She raises her hand to type a new message but maybe she realizes how useless it is because she slides her phone into her sleeve and gets back on the bike. She motions you to get on and you obey. At first, you believe that she’s taking you home but instead, she takes you to hers. The two of you arrive at the apartment she shares with Shinra.
“What are we doing here?” You ask, although off-put by the sudden change, you aren’t too startled.
“I’d like you to have dinner with Shinra and I. I also want him to take a look at you.”
You were told that Shinra is a good doctor. This could be an opportunity to help your recovery process. “Okay, sure.” You accept her invite inside and that’s when you meet Shinra again. At the sight of you, he becomes visibly flushed and almost scared. A crooked smile graces his features as he greets you and Celty.
Their home has a familiar scent. It puts you at ease and you begin to walk in. You examine the furniture, brushing the fine leather underneath your fingertips as you set your purse down. “G-Good Evening, (y/n).” He bows to you in an overly formal manner. Celty puffs smoke. “She still can’t remember a thing, Shinra. Loosen up!” She types to him. The man takes a deep breath. “Oh! For a second there, she seemed like her old self.
“Sometimes I feel fragments of the past. Like deja vu.” You mumble, sitting on a nearby sofa. Again, it’s so close yet so far.
Celty types. “I don’t believe her memories will recover naturally. I think we should try to aid her somehow. I have to find my head. You know how important this is to me.”
“Celty, forcing her to remember can hurt her. It’s only been a little over a month. It can take people up to several months to recover all of her memories.” He explains.
“I don’t have that long.”
You can almost hear Celty’s urgency when you see her typing. You can’t help but wonder…
“The day of the accident, do either of you know what I was doing?” You question, getting into a seating position that was comfortable but made you feel safe and small. They both tense up but this doesn’t deter you. You wanted to know.
Celty makes her way over to you. She sits next to you and shows you her phone. “I used to work for you. You promised that if I did some transporting you for, you’d tell me who had my head. I fulfilled your orders and you made an appointment with me…”
She retracts her phone to type more.
“You agreed to meet with me in the evening that morning but by the afternoon, I got news that you were in the hospital. I wasn’t around to see what happened.”
Without much thinking you let the question fly out. “Who was I?” You squint your eyes as if it would help with remembering. It doesn’t.
Celty and Shinra exchange looks. Then Shinra approaches you. He sits on the armchair beside the sofa. “Well, I don’t know much about you, personally. You were always so mysterious.” He tells you with a goofy grin on his face. “But whatever it is, you pay Celty more than Izaya does, that’s for sure!”
You place your fingers on your temples. “Really? I never thought to tell any of you. Weren’t we friends…?”
“Well, you’re my boss. I didn’t think it was appropriate.” Celty says.
Shinra shrugs. “We’re more acquaintances than friends. You always rejected being friends with me.”
You snap your head to him and blink. “Really? But you seem so nice.”
“For real?! Amnesiac or not, that’s a compliment!” He cheers, leaping out of his chair and spinning around like a ballerina.
“Let’s talk over dinner.”
You smile. “Uh, sure.”
“And another thing I should mention, DO NOT TELL SHIZUO WE SPOKE OF THIS!”
Twenty minutes go by and you hear your phone buzz. It’s Shizuo.

Where you at?
┗━━━━━━━━┛
You stare at the message for a bit before answering. Celty’s words made you a bit suspicious of everything. Wouldn’t Shizuo support you in this process? You answer the text, telling him where you were and what you were doing. Dinner with Shinra and Celty. He tells you that he’ll be there soon and it’s not long before he arrives.
He enters the apartment and you’d be happy to see him if he weren’t covered in blood. His suit is torn up and he looks as if he’s been in countless street fights. “Shizuo, you cry out, getting up from the island table to greet him. “Hey.” He sounds as if he’s out of breath as he sighs. “What happened?” You place your hands on his chest and then the side of his forehead. He has injuries in both places. “Let’s get you to a hospital.” You try to pull him along to leave but he doesn’t budge.
“It’s nothing new. Stop worrying so much credit you get a headache.” He sets his large palm on your head. “Shinra can patch me up just fine.” Despite this, tears prick the corners of your eyes. “But you’re bleeding all over the place…”
Shizuo grins. “Trust me, I’m tougher than I look. Can’t feel a thing.”
“Yeah, (y/n), Shizuo visits me all the time. I’m beginning to lose track.” Shinra jokes, already preparing himself to operate on Shizuo. The two of you sit down and you make sure to sit close to your boyfriend. You debated on telling him about the gangsters harassing you today, but knowing his temper, it was better to keep quiet for now.
Upon remembering how he got this way, Shizuo begins his rant about Izaya, swearing that he’ll kill him and how he’s always so close before he slips through his fingers like sand. He’d already informed you about how he ruined his life and apparently it was something you knew in the past too. It was such an unfortunate circumstance. You rest your head on his shoulder and just as quickly as he gets angry, it all seems to melt away. He tries really hard to contain his anger around you since you’re such a fragile little thing now. Maybe it was time to remind you of what he was actually about.
Your visit with the couple didn’t last too much longer. After Shinra essentially gave Shizuo a bandaid, you two were off. The sun completely set and you couldn’t help but feel nostalgic as you witnessed the night sky and the bright lights of the entertainment district. It almost amazes you that no matter how late it got, people never seemed to go home. More than ever, the streets are populated. While walking with Shizuo, you notice that he’s somewhat distant. This behavior felt a bit familiar but you’d think he’d want to be closer to you while in public, yet he remains behind you.
“Shizuo?” You call as you stop in your tracks. You’re met with his chest as he almost bumps into you. “Huh? Oh, my bad.” He puffs out some smoke. You guess that he didn’t want you to be bothered by it as his reason for hanging behind. “It’s okay.” You say as you grab his free hand. You smile your beautiful smile. “How about we go to a dog cafe tomorrow? Do you think Tom would let you have a day off?”
The night time chill doesn’t do much to cool Shizuo’s hearing cheeks. It was evident to notice from the distance that you were. “Yeah, sure. Anything you want.” And on the way home, you make an effort to talk with Shizuo. It’s around 11pm when you two reach his apartment. You take turns getting ready for bed in the bathroom and you watch as Shizuo inspects his new wound, bleeding through the bandage he’s just gotten. Seeing him shirtless like that gives you a particular sensation that you can’t ignore. Somehow, you feel bold enough to challenge this feeling.
Living with Shizuo, there was something that always bothered you but you never questioned it? Why? You think he’s just being a gentleman. He’d sleep on the couch while you sleep in his bed. So, when Shizuo gave you your kiss goodnight…
“Shizuo, can you stay with me tonight?” You ask with tired eyes. His pretty brown eyes are tired too, hair messy in nothing but a pair of shorts. “Wh-What?” He blinks, his sclera nearly bloodshot from how tired he is. He sounds so cute when he’s sleepy. He’s so serious all that time that hearing him sound confused like that is adorable. “You don’t have to sleep on the couch. My legs are better now.” You reassure him, tugging him by his arm to join you. He leans forward, almost accepting your invitation until–
“It’s not about that.” He mutters, breaking away from you. “Good night.” But before he can exit the room, you insist. “What do you mean? I want to sleep with you so why can’t we just sleep together?” You get out of bed, ready to follow him anywhere else if you have to.
He doesn’t answer.
“Do you not want to be with me?” You question. “Am I too different from who I was before? I don’t get it.” You cross your arms over your chest. The situation isn’t sad enough to make you cry, but everything is beginning to make sense in a way you don’t like. “What? Where’d you get that from?”
“I-I don’t know. It’s just what it feels like.”
Shizuo sighs as he returns to the bed. He sits on it and you sit next to him. “It’s not that I don’t wanna be with you. It’s quite the opposite, actually.”
You inch closer. “Can you explain to me what you mean?”
All of a sudden, it’s like he can’t look at you. Even his hair is getting in the way of his eyes and you can’t tell what he’s feeling. He’s really good at masking emotion in his voice but not with his eyes. Maybe that’s why he wears sunglasses.
“Throughout the entire time I’ve known you, you were always someone who I…wanted. Now, I have you but it’s just not right when you can’t remember what we were before.” He sounds reluctant but not enough for you to sense he’s trying to shut you down. You blink. Did Shizuo think you were asking for…sex?
“I just didn’t wanna be alone in bed tonight.”
The two of you lock eyes. His face turns red while your stomach is swarmed with a whirlwind of butterflies. Without any more words, you frame his face with your hands, his dyed blonde hair tickling your fingertips.
You grin as you press your lips to his. He grunts at your forwardness, taking your wrists into his hands but not removing them and kisses you back. The bartender lets you lead with your hands trailing down his bare chest. Just when you reach the hem of his shorts, you feel his hands tighten before he moves you just out of reach.
“Are you sure you wanna do something like this?” He asks but it’s obvious that he wants you to say yes. “I’m sure.” You tell him. “For some reason, it just feels right. Feeling like this towards you isn’t a new thing for me.”
“Really?” His eyebrows raise and his breath hitches. His surprise is genuine. You glance down and you can see that he’s gotten hard from kissing. You can say the same about yourself since you feel yourself lubricating too. Blushing at the feeling, you break eye contact. Just as your hand leaves his area, he stops you. The man brings your palm back to feel it, soft but hard to the touch. A soft moan escapes his lips and his face reddens. His pride keeps him from verbalizing permission but it feels damn good. Graceful fingers make their way inside. His dick is hot and pulsating. Every touch a twitch in response.
Moves slow but sure, you take his length into your hands and stroking gently. His moaning grows and his eyes fill with lust. His shy demeanor is replaced by enchanting dominance. Little by little, your fingers and palms are covered in a clear, sticky substance. Never have you seen something so erect. His body tenses up and his grip on you tightens as the veins of his penis throb with intensity. You lower your head between his legs, being bold enough to clean the mess you’ve caused with your tongue. He easily fills your mouth and now he can’t hide how much he’s enjoying his time with you, heaving and moaning like a mad man. His large hand takes a fist full of your hair. Only a minute of sucking goes by before he finishes in your mouth. His strength doesn’t let you pull away as he keeps your head down, all of his cum going down your throat.
When he releases you, you cough, unprepared for what just happened.
“Sorry…” Shizuo mutters before climbing on top of you and pinning you to the bed. His head dips down in the crook of your neck, sucking and kissing and making you squirm. You can’t even begin to resist as he goes lower, ripping your pajama shirt with ease and exposing your breasts. He kisses the valley between them once before taking your left breast into his mouth and kneading the other with his fight hand. Your core throbs hard, getting wetter and wetter to the point where your inner thighs become wet.
“Sh-Shizuo!” You cry, tears filling your eyes from pleasure. You don’t remember being touched like this before. It’s so blissful. “Be careful, don’t open your wound.”
“I’ll be fine.” He tells you, but his voice is so empty. He props up your legs, his head between them now. “I need you to tell me that this is okay.” His voice is stern. It makes you nervous. “Why wouldn’t it be?” You ask curiously, your eyes averted.
“Because,” He fingers dig into your thighs. “I just need you to tell me that this is okay.”
“O-oh, okay.” You press your lips together before uttering those words. “This is okay, Shizuo. I want to be with you.”

a/n: i apologize to the shizuo x reader crowd, u guys get like one x reader fic every 300 years and i throw this at u. also this won't become a fic blog i just thought this would be funny. :]
also hbd shizuo i'm sorry for coming up with this idea on ur birthday :]
Shizuo comes back from work, shutting the door to your shared apartment as he lets out an "I'm home" with an exhausted groan. But his spirits are quickly lifted when he sees you approach him with a bright smile and a "welcome back!" He brings you into a comforting hug as his large frame embraces you closely, and you hum from taking in his sweet scent. Shizuo carries a distinct scent of cigarettes and a variety of desserts, and it absolutely intoxicated you.
He kicked his shoes off and you brought him to the couch, he kissed the soft skin of your cheek gently and you beamed in response. However, instead of kissing him back, you leaned closer to his ear. Your hot breath tickles his skin and he can't deny how warm he feels, his complexion almost matching the hue of a peach...
And then you speak.
"Hey, Shizuo? Wouldn't it be hot if you tied me up and whipped me?"
"... Sorry?" He can't help but be absolutely puzzled, where did this come from?
"Just hear me out! I know you hate violence, but it would be really hot if you had your way with me!"
Oh.. So it's one of those BDSM things?
"I think I know where you're coming from, but I really don't wanna hurt you..." Shizuo mumbles in a worried tone. Just one hit from him could shatter your entire skeletal structure, the thought alone made him cringe.
"No?" You replied with a cheeky grin, and you only kept going. "But what if I want you to hurt me? In fact, I'd have no problem at all if you punched me square in the face! Rearrange my face if you'd like!"
"....."
"You could even push me to the ground, step on me, call me a good-for-nothing slut and spit on me!"
Shizuo's mouth was agape, he couldn't even make a sound as you only kept going..
"I would THANK you if you used me as your personal ash tray! The burn marks could be a mark of your utter disdain for me~!"
"My personal WHAT?!"
"I WANT YOU TO TELL ME YOU HATE ME AND YOU WANT ME TO DIE, AND THEN THROW ME OUT THE WINDOW. AND IF I START CRYING, TELL ME TO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND CALL ME A STUPID, WORTHLESS WHORE."
"Y/N!!!!!!"
You immediately shut up as Shizuo's voice boomed through the room, he was staring up at you in utter shock and mild annoyance.
"I'm sorry for yelling, but let me get one thing straight... I am NOT doing any of that to you."
You sighed and rested your head on his shoulder, and in response he stroked your back as gently as possible.
"Yeah, I know... I just wanted to see your reaction if I said all of that! But it would be hot..." You drifted off in thought.
Shizuo is tasked with caring for the love of his life while she recovers her memories after a horrible accident.
Warnings: Fem-bodied/cis gender Female reader, descriptions of violence and gore, morally-gray women (the female mc), yearning men (Shizuo), Slight Mc x other characters.
Shizuo hates his strength. It is probably the thing he hates most about himself given how inescapable it is. It basically ruined his whole life…well, Izaya ruined his life but his strength disorder is a close runner-up. There are so many moments where he couldn’t think of a good reason for why he was cursed with such an ability. All he can do is destroy…
So, is it wrong for him to feel a sudden sense of thankfulness? He can proudly say that you had someone you can rely on. He is strong enough to take all that will come your way. He just needs to be responsible and disciplined so that he doesn’t hurt you by accident. The man can’t help but be nervous when the doctor permits him to take you home. As your caretaker, he needs to make sure you take your medicine and that you don't put too much stress on your legs.
‘I can just carry her everywhere.’ He thinks to himself. You won’t be leaving the house much so all he has to do is remember to administer your medication. The unfortunate thing is that you have a bit of an infection. It will make the healing process a little longer and more painful than it should be. Shizuo being upset about that is quite an understatement. He wants to refrain from showing his anger in your presence but at that moment he isn’t able to contain himself.
You patiently wait in your hospital room for Shizuo to come back when you feel the building shake. Its enough force to make the lights flicker. Then you hear him. His once quiet voice is unrecognizable as roaring and loud as it was. Louder than anything you’ve heard before.
“YOU GAVE HER A WHAT?!”
The both of you are forced to get out shortly after…but your hospital bill is free of charge! Shizuo has quite the reputation. He never elaborates, telling you that he would talk to you about it when you got better. At least, you figured he cares enough about you to get upset. But…did he really cause the building to shake or was it some kind of mild earthquake?
The two of you stand outside, waiting for a ride that would take the two of you home. Your legs feel like jelly. Sometimes, it’s like they aren’t even there and you’d collapse. Fortunately, Shizuo is always there to catch you before you could hit the ground but it reaches the point where he’s just holding you now. Connected to you is a hospital IV that fed you antibiotics every few hours.
“Shizuo, how much longer until your friends get here?” You ask as you notice the clouds above and it seems like it’s supposed to rain soon. “Not much longer.” He replies. “Damn, where the hell are they?” You hear him mutter. You frown, securing your arms around his neck as he holds you. The wind is beginning to blow and you are getting cold underneath your hospital gown. Luckily, a van pulls up, parking in front of you and Shizuo.
The sliding door opens to reveal a girl wearing a black outfit and hat to match. Her face lits up at the sight of you. “Oh mai gosh! Dotachin, you were right! (y/n) did wake up!” she stares at you for an uncomfortable amount of time. Behind her emerges a boy wearing a gray hoodie. You notice he has fox-like eyes. “Whoa! Long time no see! Your hair is mega short. You kinda look like the protagonist of this new manga…if he were a girl.”
“Will the two of you shut up already and make room for them?” The man who speaks is in the passenger seat. He wears a beanie.
Shizuo places you inside the back door before breaking down your IV stand to put it into the back of the car. “Thanks for doing this,” he says as he passes by his friend. The name you catch is“Kyohei.” He and the others were driving Shizuo and you home. These people knew you. You feel so bad that you can’t remember them. Their faces are mildly familiar but the memories would come and go as if you were trying to remember a dream. You try to think about the adventures they talk about having with you. Your mind misconstrues the info being given.
The woman’s name is Erika and the man is Walker.
“We were so excited when Shizuo told us you’d be waking up! We bought you a ton of manga!” Walker reveals a bunch of books from his bag. “O-Oh, thank you.” You take the stack of books that’s practically shoved into your hands. They are seemingly brand new! On top is a particular-looking manga. “Kagura Bachi?” You read out loud. “That one’s my favorite right now!” Walker says. “Trust me, you’ll like it too.”
“Hey, don’t overwhelm her. She’s supposed to take it easy, not read all that weird shit you two are into.” Shizuo informs them before getting in and sitting next to you. It’s a tight fit but hopefully, the ride isn’t long.
And, thankfully, it wasn’t. Shizuo just didn’t want you to deal with getting through Ikebukuro with your legs still weak. Plus, it began to rain.
The driver is a man named Saburo.
“If you need anything, just let us know. We’ll always be on standby.” Saburo shoots you a smile and you smile back. “Thanks.” You bow to the two men in the front section of the car. You talk to them as you wait for Shizuo to get your things from the van. Kyohei smiles too before it turns into a frown. “You don’t remember us, do you?”
You shake your head. “No, but I was told that it's temporary. So, I’m not worried.” You chirp reassuringly and his smile returns. “Alright. ‘Hope Shizuo takes good care of you.”
“Bye (y/n)!” Walker yells from the backseat. “Bye-bye!” Erika chimes in. “See you later! Thank you for the manga.” And then they drive off. They seem to be a lively bunch. “Come inside before you get wet. Can you walk?” Shizuo examines your legs as he holds all of your belongings from the hospital. You nod. “Yes.”
You follow Shizuo into his apartment. It is extremely minimalistic and surprisingly small. The man is always out and about so there was no need to decorate or have an extremely spacious area. It isn’t much longer before you feel a sense of dread. Your muscles stiffened just a little and is sore as if you’ve been carrying heavy things all day
“I’m kinda tired.” You announce, prompting Shizuo to perk up. “Already?”
You nod in response.
“You’re probably low energy from not eating. Have lunch first and then get some rest.” He set up your IV stand and attached the bag to it. “Do you think you can walk or do you need help?”
When you hear his question, you look down at your legs. They healed up fine but ached endlessly with pain. “I can walk.” You’re lying. Clearly. You haven’t taken a single step since you entered Shizuo’s home. You suddenly realize you’re being lifted. It’s Shizuo. He places you on his couch. “I don’t got groceries so if you want something, I gotta go pick it up.” He says, opening his phone and typing away. “I’m not really hungry.” You shake your head. “Don’t say that. What are you in the mood for?” He insists.
“Um…” You tell him what you want and he makes a phone call. You didn’t know who he called but it didn’t sound like he was ordering from a restaurant.
“Hey. Need a favor. Can you pick up some food for me?.... She’s awake. You can come say ‘hi’ if you want….try to hurry. She needs to eat before she can take her medicine.”
You didn’t hear a voice on the other end. “Who was that?” You tilt your head. Shizuo couldn’t get enough of your small mannerisms. The way your hair shifts and falls...or how cute your droopy eyes look whenever you try to keep eye contact with him.
“It’s a friend. Her name is Celty. The two of you were close…before the accident.” He explains, not being able to do anything else but hide his face from your gaze. “She’ll be by soon.”
Your eyes flutter shut as you try your best to remember that name. Celty. It rang no bells, for now. Maybe once you see her face, things will come back to you.
Suddenly, you became aware of your attire. You were still in a hospital gown. “Um, Shizuo, do you think I could get changed?” Your tone seems rather annoyed, as you are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the thin piece of fabric. You desire your clothing.
Shizuo tenses up at your request. “Sure.” He mutters before picking you back up and taking you to his room. The bedroom is rather minimal like the rest of the house…except something particularly cute catches your eye! On the bed is a medium-sized stuffed bear. It has light brown fur with pink accents. Tied to its arm are three pink balloons filled with helium that causes the bear to fall over on its side.
“Oh.” You become flushed at the sight of it and you feel Shizuo’s heart rate quicken as he holds you bridal style to his chest. “Shit, ‘forgot about that.” You hear mumbles, which makes you blush even more. He seems so…genuine.
“That was supposed to be for later.” The man sits you down on the bed next to the bear and goes to the closet. You smile. “Why later? I think now is perfect.” You pick up the animal and hold it in your lap. It’s so cute! You trace the fabric with your fingers, squeezing its paws and simply taking in the adorable design. A moment later, Shizuo brings out an oversized sweater of his. “Just put this on for now.” He gives it to you. You take it from him, puzzled as to why he doesn’t just give you one of your own. Although, this could prove much more comfortable.
“Thank you.” You smile kindly before promptly removing your hospital gown. Shizuo is completely unprepared! His breath hitches at the sight of you. It was inappropriate but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from your body. Your hair was short from the hospital hair cut, but he kinda wonders how you’d look right now with hair so long that it touched the floor.
Yeah, you’re kinda Shizuo’s type. No matter what you do with your appearance, he loves every bit of it. Even if your perfect skin was tainted with scabs and scars from the accident—in his eyes, you are still perfect. You are still his.
His daze is cut short once you got the sweater up over your breasts and the fabric falls like a curtain over the rest of your body. He hasn’t even noticed you noticing him!
His sweater fit you like a mini-dress, so that’s how you wore it. It isn’t much longer before the person named Celty arrives.
When she lays eyes upon you in Shizuo’s living room, her behavior becomes odd. You notice that she doesn’t speak but communicates via her cellphone. She types various things that don't make sense to you.
She writes:
“Oh my god, I’m so glad you’re okay. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to walk anymore!!”
You read the message as quickly as you can. The words and letters seem to jumble themselves up on their own but after some time, you understand what she says. You grin. “I’m glad I’m okay, too.” You reply, hanging onto Shizuo for support.
“Hey, try not to overwhelm her, kay?” Shizuo mutters, seemingly holding you with ease.
Celty writes:
“So, you can’t remember a thing, huh?”
You shake your head. “No, but Shizuo told me that the doctors said my memories should come back in time.”
She types:
“Great! Shinra said the same thing but I had to come and ask you myself!”
You open your mouth to speak but she pulls back her phone to type something new.
“Why did you come to visit Shizuo of all people set getting out?”
Your lips part. You can’t think of a proper response. Shizuo is your boyfriend, so why wouldn’t you visit him?
Shizuo soon steps beside you. “Don’t overload her with anything. She's still prone to a lot of headaches.” He informs the dullahan. “It’s gonna be like this for a few weeks. ‘Prolly months.”
Celty jumps slightly at Shizuo’s statement. “Months?!” A puff of smoke leaves from beneath her helmet, “I can’t wait for months!”
She is able to manifest herself so much that she doesn't need to type for you to hear what she said. But it’s only a moment before she calms down. She types a message one last time.
“Can I speak to Shizuo privately?”
Once you read it, you nod. “Of course.” You turn your attention to the delivered food that Celty brought. “I’m gonna get started. Don’t take too long.”
Shizuo tenses up but once you had sat down and opened your bento box, he began to move. He follows Celty to the outside of his apartment.
Once you’re alone, you begin to eat. Japanese cuisine is always so tasty. You aren’t able to remember much but one of the things you could remember was your favorite savory food. While eating, feel a draft going up the bottom of your sweater. No issue, you’d just get some leggings or a skirt to put underneath. You didn’t wanna bother Shizuo either so the best course of action would be getting it yourself. After a few more bits, you close the bento and make the slow but treacherous journey to the back of the apartment. You hadn’t even noticed how bare the apartment was until now. There didn’t seem to be any traces of you left behind.
It fills you with a prang of sadness in your heart with a side of anxiety. Your accident is always described as horrible but was it so bad that Shizuo expected you to die in your coma? The feeling intensifies when you look into Shizuo’s closet and see that there was absolutely nothing that belonged to you in there. No matter how much you look, all you run into is bartender suit after bartender suit. All of them, identical.
You take a deep breath. Maybe you and Shizuo lived separately? If so, going home would be nice. You could see everything from the past and it could help jog your memory.
“(y/n)?” Shizuo calls. You leave his room and are reduced to a crawl from standing in the closet for so long. You don’t answer, you just let him find you and he does. “What’s wrong? Why’d you get up?” He questions, picking you up. “I was looking for some pants or something,” you tell him. “To put on.”
“Why? ‘You cold?”
You meekly nod. He sighs. “Well, don’t worry about all that. I’ll get you something.” He reassures you. You can’t put your finger on it but something about him is so suave and soothing. Maybe it’s his voice? It’s deep and firm. Or it could be his build. He is tall and strong. It makes you feel safe. You still can’t fathom that he’s your high school sweetheart. Shizuo fetches you a blanket and the two of you relax on the couch together. He eats and you finish your half. It was time for medicine.
This is your least favorite part of everything. The medication makes everything so fluffy like it’s a dream. You get extremely tired and end up sleeping away most days. You recall Shizuo’s face and voice but rarely remember anything he says. Your days consist of eating, a bit of affection from Shizuo and then you’re back to sleep. Just as you’re dozing off, you feel as though you remember everything: who you are, what you do, who Shizuo is…
And then it’s gone.
You fall asleep and the next day, you can’t remember a thing. This goes on for about four weeks. Walking becomes less painful and you’re off the medication that causes you to fall asleep at any given moment. Your hair has grown to about your shoulders. You can’t seem to figure out what you want to do with it. You don’t remember how you wore your hair. So, you just let it do its thing until this rather large hurdle passes.
Shizuo offers to begin taking you out with him since you can manage without him and you accept. Of course, by now, you have some of your own clothes to wear out. Shizuo had Celty get them from your apartment.
“You ready yet?” Shizuo asks through the door. Since that day he saw you naked, he’s insisted on giving you privacy to change. You didn’t mind at all. “Yeah, sorry,” You emerge from the bedroom wearing a thin knitted sweater with a high skirt and boots to match. At first, you felt overdressed for a date at Russia Sushi but Shizuo reminds you that you always wore things like this. They were your clothes, after all.
The two of you join hands and head out. You notice that once you’re actually outside, he breaks away from you, preferring to let you lead. You assume it’s because of his job of being a bodyguard. That’s fine.
You follow his directions to the restaurant. It sticks out like a sore thumb because it’s the only restaurant that has a Russian black man outside of it. Although, you never anticipated that you’d be hoisted up in the air by this very man.
“Oh, (y/n)! You are walking again! Now you can enjoy sushi just like before!”
You are too shocked to reply.
“Shizuo tell me that you don’t remember me. I pray that you remember soon!”
“Cut it out, Simon.” Shizuo steps in. “She's still recovering. Just because she’s walking doesn’t mean she’s okay.”
“Oh goodness!” Simon puts you down. “I am sorry little lady.”
“I-It’s fine.” You give a meek, nervous smile. Almost everyone you run into says such similar things. It’s so strange. All these people were your friends? It’s a bit overwhelming and the pressure weighs on you. You needed to remember.
“Come in! Eat Sushi!” He ushers the both of you inside. You meet the owner who tells you that his name is Dennis and although his face is vaguely familiar, the two of you exchange no words after that. You’re seated and you both order.
“Shizuo, can I tell you something?” You’re across from Shizuo. He stares at you a lot, you’ve noticed. Sometimes, it makes you nervous. “Shizuo?” You call again, he blinks before turning his attention back to the menu. “You’re staring again. You look so hard that I never know what to say.” You joke with a light laugh. “Sorry.” He says. “You’re just pretty.” He adds.
“Well, you’re quite handsome too.”
You compliment him but he never says thank you. “What is it you wanna say?”
You grip the edges of your menu, trying to distract yourself with the images of unorthodox sushi as you let the words pour out.
“I’m beginning to remember some things.”
You can’t see him but you know he’s frozen up. “What…do you remember?”
You purse your lips. “A lot of them are childhood memories. My mom and dad. They were always so strict.” You scrunch up your nose at the thought. “They wanted me to learn Japanese so bad. Then it was Chinese and then Korean. Learning them all at once made my head hurt. I didn’t realize I knew all of these things until I saw them. I could see all these languages and understand them.”
Shizuo eases. “That’s great. I’m sorry about your, uh, parents, but you are pretty fluent in a bunch of languages. I dunno how many.” He shrugs. You wonder why your family made you participate in such things. Since you could remember them now, you should probably contact them. They never reached out after you woke up but maybe if you try to reach out on your new phone, they could help you.
Things progressively get easier and easier. After some physical therapy, Shizuo began letting you go out on your own. Ikebukuro can be dangerous but he’ll always be nearby doing debt collecting runs with Tom. You let him know that you’ll give him a call if you ever need help. He tells you that Celty is out and about everyday as well.
Upon investigating your belongings, you noticed that you had a lot of money. Shizuo said you had a high end job, so it was a pleasant surprise. You thought that Shizuo’s apartment needed a bit of a woman’s touch so your plan is to visit a few convenient stores to look for decorations. Plus, he deserves a nice gift for taking such good care of you.
The thing is that your day has barely begun and there was already chaos, involving Shizuo, nonetheless.
“IIIZAAAAYAAA!”
Is that Shizuo? It sounded pretty close. You stop in your tracks on the sidewalk and just as you do, a pair of hands grabs your shoulders, spinning you around to see Shizuo approaching with what looked like the entire guard of a railing! The person grabbing you seems to be using you as a shield as Shizuo refuses to swing. Like an angry predator, he holds the huge piece of metal and stalks closer. He gets so close that the person abandons you and Shizuo darts after him. “Get back here, you damn flee!”
You get a glimpse of the person who grabbed you. He had dark hair and a familiar coat that you definitely remembered. It was the man who visited you before you were discharged from the hospital. That reminded you of everything you experienced that day. That odd email. His claim that someone hurt you and that it wasn’t just a bad accident. You’d gotten so distracted by getting better that you completely forgot. You are determined to get to the bottom of this.
Shizuo is tasked with caring for the love of his life while she recovers her memories after a horrible accident. [Pre-Canon]

Series Theme: カミイロアワセ · binaria
A blonde man stands by his lonesome in a hospital, palms moist from the built-up sweat caused by his underlying nervousness. In his hands, on the verge of slipping out, is an arrangement of roses and a box of chocolates that’s surely melting because of the summer heat. In front of him is the door leading to the room of a patient he felt very fondly of. This patient is waking up today.
That patient is you.
The blonde man that smells of cigarettes got up bright and early that day; earlier than he would’ve liked but today isn’t about him. It’s about you. The thing is, he didn’t exactly know how to approach you…because of your condition. The nurse told him something extremely important before he would visit you today.
“ Are you Shizuo Heiwajima…? …Oh, That’s wonderful! Well, we’ve contacted you with good news! Ms. (y/n) has woken up today. Would you like to come see her…? Amazing. Visiting hours begin at 6:00 am… ”
That’s how the phone call would’ve gone if he’d hung up and hurried back home to prepare for your meeting that day—but there was more.
“ …Also, the doctor believes that you should be informed of the condition that she is in before coming. She suffers from severe amnesia due to her head injury. Please refrain from upsetting her while we work to bring her memory back! ”
Shizuo wondered why the hospital contacted him and not your family, but he wouldn’t complain. He needs to see you, especially after everything. His anxiety blossoms when he stepped into the room. You were looking out the window, not even noticing him until he’s inside. Your hair is short, growing back from your head being shaved for your operation and your eyes were droopy. Presumably from you being woken up so early after probably being on a ton of medication that made you drowsy.
The man is captivated by your simple beauty, adorning a hospital gown and a short hairstyle. Then he notices that you are looking at him now.
“Um…do I know you…?”
Your soft-spoken voice is barely audible but it brings Shizuo back to reality. “Hey—uh, no— I-I mean, yes. You do.” He sputters out, causing your confused expression to soften. “Oh, are you Shizuo?” You ask. He nods. “Yeah.” He takes a deep breath before making his way over to your bed. “How are you feeling?”
“I…I don’t know. My…head hurts.” You watched as Shizuo removes the dead flowers from the nearby vase, putting in the fresh ones he had just brought. He takes the pair of scissors to trim the stems and edges so it could fit better. It looks as though he’d done this already.
While you were asleep, Shizuo visited you a lot. He’d come by before and after his shifts and sit with you for hours. Sometimes, he’d even talk in hopes that once you woke up, you’d think of him. Finally, the day is here and you didn’t even know who he was.
“How bad is it?” He ceases his actions. “I’ll get a nurse, they can help you.”
“N-No!” You cover your mouth as if you’ve shouted by accident. You remove your hands. “I’m sorry.” You whisper, realizing Shizuo has frozen at your words. Your gaze went back to the window. You watch the cars go by. You see how fast they are going.
“Do you know who else was in the accident? Are they okay?” Your delicate hands rest on your lap. Shizuo saw how your fingers occasionally curl and grip the sheets when you talk. “The accident? Oh, yeah, they’re okay. You’re the only one who got hurt.” He tells you. Your sullen expression didn’t change. “Good.” You reply, before trying to make eye contact with him. “Thank you for bringing this stuff for me.” You manage to curl your lips up into a sweet smile; a smile that makes him blush.
“No problem.” Shizuo then sees you try to reach for the heart-shaped box of chocolates that’s slightly too far. You’re held back by the IV in your arm risking being ripped out if you lean any further. “Hey, I’ll get it.”
In a swift motion, he tears off the plastic wrap and cardboard boxing that holds the candy. “Sorry.” You hear him mutter. You don’t reply, only taking the item from him in silence.
As you eat a few, here and there, Shizuo sits next to you in the visiting chair. You watch the TV with the sound coming from the remote that sits a few inches away from your leg. The situation is finally beginning to set in for him.
“How much do you remember?” Shizuo suddenly asks. “Not much.” You answer.
“Do you remember your name?”
“Yes.”
“Do you remember how old you are?”
“The nurses told me.”
“Do you remember what happened the day you got hurt?”
“I was in a car accident.”
“Do you remember me?”
You hesitate. A sound emits from your mouth but it’s unintelligible. Shizuo raises an eyebrow. “Do you?” He repeats. You purse your lips before shaking your head. “No…who are you to me?”
“I’m—your boyfriend.”
You visibly jump at the revelation, blushing hard and in turn, making Shizuo blush too; his blush being more noticeable. “W-Wait, you’re my boyfriend?” Like a schoolgirl, your hands cover your face to hide your expression.
“Yeah,” Shizuo says plainly. “Who did you think I was?”
“I-I don’t know! A-A Friend?! The nurses told me you visited me a lot but…How long have we been dating?”
Shizuo’s eyes roll up and to the side as if he were thinking before he answers. “Since high school.”
“R-Really? I’m so s-sorry I can’t remember.”
Shizuo’s subtle joy turns into alertness as your voice begins to waver as you speak to him. You didn’t exactly sound happy anymore. You’re crying. “I’m sorry that I forgot you.”
Now, what’s he suppose to do? You’ve never cried in front of him before. “Aye, it's alright. You don’t need to cry. The memory loss is only temporary.”
“It is?”
Shizuo doesn’t know if the amnesia is temporary or not but he'd say anything at this point to get you to stop crying. Plus, the doctors already said not to upset you while they try to make things right again. “Of course,” Shizuo replies, his hand making its way to your cheek. His thumb feels like a piece of fabric on your skin. It barely touches you but your tears are gone. “I’m gonna take care of you, so no more cryin’, kay?”
You nod, trusting him fully. You wipe the bottom of your eyes and your nose with tissue from the Kleenex box by your bed. “Did you eat breakfast, yet?” Shizuo asks as he reaches for the chocolates to have some for himself. To be honest, he’s pretty hungry, He skipped breakfast to be here.
“No. Not hungry.”
Shizuo sighs. “You have to eat. It’s the only way you’re going to get better. Why aren’t you hungry? Food not good?”
The man watchs your eyes. You blink slowly and your pupils shift from left to right from time to time. “I don’t know. I guess. I don’t like hospital food.” You tell him. He chuckles lightly. “It’s the first morning you’re up and you’ve already decided you don’t like the food?”
This time, you didn’t answer. It’s clear what you think. “Um… can I ask why you're dressed like that?” You aren’t exactly able to tell why he’d wear a bartending uniform unless he worked there. “Am I making you late for work?!”
“Oh, this? No, don’t worry.” He looks down at himself. “My brother, Kasuka, bought a bunch of these for me and I can’t let them go to waste.”
Kasuka? That name seems familiar…maybe?
“I see. I think you look really good in it.” Your face begins to heat up. It’s dawning on you that this man is so handsome and his voice is—ugh~! Is he your boyfriend? “I’m beginning to wonder how I was able to pull someone like you.”
The man seems a bit shocked at the things you have to say. He hides his eyes with his sunglasses. “I should be the one asking that. I’m just a regular guy. Heal up fast so that we can get you home—”
“What is it that you like about me?”
That catches him off guard. “There’s a lot of things I like about you. Why’s that important now?” Oh, the guilt that fills his body when he sees your expression falter just a little bit. “Well,” You shift in the hospital bed. “I don’t remember you or how we met or why we are dating so I was curious.”
“Like I said, the amnesia is temporary but—if it’ll make you feel better then I’ll just tell you.” Shizuo feels around in his pockets for a moment. ‘Damn, where did I put it?’ He thinks to himself. You patiently wait before him for a few moments before he pulls out something new. It’s a smartphone.
“This is yours.” He says, handing you the device. You take it from him, examining it a little. “Mine?” You tilt your head. “Yeah, the other one got banged up in the accident. I got you a new one. It’s expensive, so don’t go droppin’ it.”
Your ears perk up. “Huh? O-Oh, Shizuo, you don’t have to do this. Please, anything would’ve been fine.” Your eyes pan over to Shizuo’s phone that he left on the windowsill where he had placed the new flowers. He owns a simple flip phone. Surely, he could use a new phone, not you. You couldn’t remember phone numbers or any information that would make having a phone more useful.
“It’s a gift. Just take it before I start regretting it.”
You press your lips together. This man seems so selfless and sweet. You start to believe the claim that he is your boyfriend. So, it must be okay to express affection, right? You had to at least try.
“Sh-Shizuo?” You call softly, grabbing his attention for a brief moment. You motioned him to come to you and he listened, getting up from his chair completely. He was now at the edge of your bed. You still beckon him to come closer and so he bent down. No one can imagine what his face of subtle joy meant inside of him when you press a chaste kiss on his cheek. Your hand on the other side of his face is a soothing cold that gives him butterflies. You were actually touching him. You kissed him.
He wants to kiss you too but…
“Thank you for everything.” You smile again. He smiles too. “Anything for you.”
Shizuo pulls away when he hears his phone ringing. He sighs, cursing under his breath and going to look at the caller ID. It read: “Tom.” You take note of Shizuo’s reaction. “Do you have to go…?” You try not to sound sad but naturally, because of your situation, you did. “Yeah, but I’ll be back later, I promise.” He places a hurried kiss on your forehead before finally answering his phone call.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m comin’. Let’s make this round fast, I have things to do…” And that was the last you heard of Shizuo. For now, at least. He didn’t answer your question.
Butterflies fill your belly and bloom into excitement. “Shizuo” seems like such a good person. At least, you hope he is. You examine your new phone. Its thin and black with no charms or accessories. A very sleek design. This is something you’d definitely drop.
You turn it on. It takes a few moments but you’re able to get it to boot up. When the lock screen loads, you are instantly met with new prompts.

You’re in the middle of hitting “send” when you hear your door open once again. You can tell from the shadow that its a tall man with short hair. Your face lights up. “Oh, Shizuo?” but then your smile falls. “Oh…” It, in fact, isn’t Shizuo. Instead, you are met with a dark haired man, wearing a particular coat with fur trim on the hood. He isn’t as tall as Shizuo either, being considerably shorter but still taller than you.
“It seems that my sleeping beauty is finally awake.”
You raise an eyebrow. “ ‘Sleeping Beauty’? Who are you? Are we friends?” You observe his body language. It’s cheery and open but it doesn’t match the tone of voice. “Friends? Of course, we are.” He skips over to your chair, silently looking around the room. His gaze lingers on the fresh flowers.
“I see that your beloved Shizu-chan has already visited you. Too bad, I just missed him.” He shrugs, shaking his head slowly. “Shizu-chan? Who—oh! Shizuo? That’s a cute nickname.” You laugh to yourself. “Yes, Shizuo came through here…” You trail off, lowering your gaze. “I’m sorry but I’m afraid I don’t remember your name.”
“Do you know how long you’ve been asleep?” The man fidgets in his chair when he speaks. He plays with something that is in the pocket of his jacket, he leans back in the chair and forward. It’s like he can’t sit still. Something is brewing inside of him.
“Um—”
“Six months. That’s an awful long time. He hurt you that bad, huh? What a shame.” The unknown man smirks, making sure to emphasize the appropriate keywords. You furrow your eyebrows. “He? Someone did this to me?” You ask, leaning forward in your bed.
“You can call me Izaya Orihara. We were friends before your little situation and you see—I’m an informant. I’m always willing to help a friend remember her past.” Izaya helped himself to one of the hospital-branded food items in front of you. It was a cup of orange juice. “No one told me that somebody did this to me. The doctors said it was a car accident.” You grip your bedsheets, heart-rate quickening.
“That’s what they told you? How tragic.” He peels back the seal of the cup of juice and downed it in one gulp. “Mmm.” He hums with a scrunched nose. “A bit too sweet for my liking but decent for free stuff.”
“Excuse me!”
“Oh! Forgive me. I knew you’d say ‘no’ if I asked so I just thought I should help myself anyway.” Izaya smiles a fake smile, subtly taking another one. “I don’t care about the juice. Explain to me what you mean. Who did this?! Is it being investigated?”
Izaya suddenly jumps out of his seat. “Welp. It’s been real. I already got your number. I’ll text you. Because you’re my favorite human, I’ll give you a piece of advice. Take everything with a grain of salt from now on. I’m probably the only person you can trust.” His voice conveys a sense of worry and desperation but his face only showed pure evil.
“Huh? Wait!” You shout, trying to chase after him but your legs aren't working. “Please!”
“Aw. Little girl can’t keep up? Maybe I’ll visit again. I just came by to see for myself that you survived. Glad you did. Bye-bye now!”
“Come back…”
Now, you are alone again. Physically, you aren’t. A team of doctors came in to take care of you. But emotionally, you are. The sky turns orange and purple as the sun sets. ‘Where’s Shizuo?’ You wish that you could walk so that you could at least look at the people below.
You pull out your phone. No new notifications. But that’s okay. You could just text first.

To: Shizuo ♡
Hi.
-
I hope your day was okay.

Almost a second later, you hear your phone make another bell sound. Eager, you rush to open the phone to see what he would say. But instead, you got an email.
You squint a bit. “The Dollars? What’s that?” You mutter. The email has a link attached. Curious, you click the link. The destination is a dark-mode website with text that reads “Dollars.” Below, there is an empty white bar that has “password” next to it. You go ahead and type the password from the email. It lets you in, prompting you to create a username. You try a few. They were all taken except for one.

There was certainly no harm in talking in a few chatrooms to pass the time. You don’t have anyone else to talk to. It’s your first day awake and your only visitors were Shizuo and some guy named Izaya. They both felt familiar, though. You hope your memory will return soon.
Your door opens with a sudden “clunk!” sound. Enter, Shizuo. “You awake?”
You perk up. “Y-yes? Shizuo.” You close the phone and sit it on the small table within your reach. You notice that he was holding a small bento box. “How are you feeling?” He asks. “Still getting headaches. My legs hurt too.” You answered with a subtle frown. “You need to take your medicine.”
“I did.” You quip. “It just makes me tired, so I stalled.” You add. Shizuo raises his eyebrows. “You shoulda taken it earlier then. I hope you didn’t stay up for me.” He runs his hand through his hair. A small blush covers your face. “W-Well, you did say you would be back so…”
He shook his head. “Nah, that’s no excuse. Don’t sit around in pain ‘cus of me.” He then gives you the bento box. “You remember Shinra?”
“Thank you and no. Who is he?”
“Just a friend. He said he would stop by tomorrow. You think you’re up for it?”
You open the box and are welcomed with warm food that blesses your nose. It smells so much richer than the hospital food. “Yeah, sure.” You smile before digging in. From the corner of your eye, you see Shizuo has made himself comfortable. “You know visiting hours are almost over, right?”
“What are they gonna do? Throw me out?” The corner of his mouth upturns. You want to believe he’s joking but his voice and attitude sound serious. “They’re not gonna let you stay.” You frown.
“I’d like to see them try to force me out.”
Your blush at his determination to be with you. “So, you’ll stay overnight as well?”
“Yeah. Like hell I’m gonna leave you alone at a time like this.”
“Oh, Shizuo!” You squeeze your eyes shut, grinning so hard that your cheeks are sore. He’s so nonchalant with his words and you can’t help but be moved at how unintentionally he conveys his attraction towards you. “Huh? What?” He stares, rather confused at your behavior but your expression made him become flushed too. You place your hands on your cheeks. “I don’t know. You just sound rather romantic. I hope the rest of our relationship is like this.”
“Kind of…” He mutters. “I didn’t realize how much I take you for granted until I almost lost you. You deserve so much more.” He sounds sincere. You grin fades and you open your eyes. “Was the accident that bad?” You ask quietly. Shizuo nods. “Everything happened so fast. I’m just glad you’re alive.”
“Well, I’m glad that I have you to take care of me. I don’t remember much but, already, you’re a beautiful person!” You cheer, silently wishing you could leave this bed so that you could properly hug Shizuo. A small smile creeps up on his face. Even if you didn’t possess all of your memories, you are still somehow the person he fell in love with. He hopes that one day, he could marry you.
“Hey.” After a moment of silence, he calls you. “Think about some things you wanna do in Ikebururo. When you’re able to walk, I’ll take you.” Your eyes widen at that proposal. “Really? How thoughtful.”
Shizuo would be lying if he said he wasn’t still nervous right now. You seem to be okay now but he is still worried for your health. Soon, you catch him off guard.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Yeah.” He replies instantly, placing an innocent kiss full of desperation on your lips. There are no words or actions he can use to convey how happy he felt. The blonde man smelled of cigarettes. A smell you recognized. Your lips are moist and soft with a hint of chapstick. Tender. The way you grip his vest sends him to heaven. The bartender raises his hand to the back of your head, the new growth of your hair short and soft. Kissing felt like fireworks going off. Things could only get better from here. It seemed like Shizuo was a reliable enough partner for getting better.
