Arena Mexico Tuesday Report! 05/01/2018

Shockercito, Stukita & Angelito vs. Pequeno Olimpico, Ultimo Dragoncito & Pequeno Universo

Who’s who?

Shockercito is the only maskless guy, Stukita is in grey and Angelito is in blue.

Olimpico in blue, Dragoncito in yellow and Universo in black/white.

How’s the match?

Good(?), I’m not going to lie and say that I watch the minis matches on the regular. If you follow this blog you know that I often skip the opening match or two on my CMLL recaps, which is often the spot minis are given. They were higher on this card, likely because it was a kids show. It was a fun little match. I wouldn’t recommend this over the mini tornero cibernetico, which CMLL broadcasted Sunday. (I know this is just copy and paste from yesterday, but that’s basically the same thoughts I had for both matches. This match was a little better, but these minis aren’t dwarves like the tag team was Monday.) 

Blue Panther Jr., The Panther & Drone vs. Puma, Tiger & Universo 2000 Jr.

Who’s who?

Blue Panther Jr. in blue/black, The Panther in all black and Drone in white.

Puma in yellow/black, Tiger in all black with white boots and full shirt while Universo 2000 is all black with a tanktop of sorts. 

How’s the match?

Very Good, as would be expected from this group of guys. I’ve never left a Panther Bros vs Puma/Tiger match unsatisfied. I suppose, I’d call them my favorites or at least up there. Puma had a very fun spot where one of the Panthers was chasing him around only to eat a superkick from Tiger. I was very surprised to see Universo 2000 Jr. here with the notice we got earlier in the day about his father passing away. So when he came out, It was like seeing a ghost. Or... maybe an echo of Universo 2000 himself. Speaking of which.

Universo 2000 Tribute

You should watch this... it was very touching and came immediately after this match. It meant the next match didn’t get entrances, but that’s obviously not that big of a deal even if I really enjoy Rojo/Polvora’s entrance. 

Dragon Rojo Jr., Polvora, & Okumura vs. Titan, Stuka Jr., & Rey Cometa

Who’s who?

Rojo in red, Polvora in black and Okumura maskless in orange.

Titan with a pink mask, Stuka in light blue and Rey Cometa in black/blue.

How’s the match?

Very good, I’ve liked these last 3 matches with Rojo/Polvora teaming and this is no different. Lots of fun action between these 6 men. A really great showing Stuka Jr. was the madman he always is. Rojo/Polvora continue to look strong and haven’t lost on these broadcasts since teaming. Now 3-0 perhaps this is leading to something? A big Gran Alternative win for one of them or maybe to be a legit challenger to the tag champs Volador Jr. & Valiente? They could be a great trios with Templario who seemed to have chemistry with them. 

Soberano Jr.(c) vs. Magia Blanca for the Mexican National Welterweight Championship

Soberano Jr. in blue and Magia Blanca in white. 

How’s the match?

Great, match of the night by some margin. This is honestly one of my favorite matches from this year. CMLL or otherwise. I though Magia Blanca did a great job and I found myself genuinely impressed by most of this contest. Nothing looked sloppy and I think some of the choices to what happened when were all on point. It remarkable stayed a tecnico vs tecnico match, I don’t recall either guy acting rudo. Which is rare in tecnico tecnico matches, normally some guy who is normally a nice guy... just becomes rudo. See Volador/Mistico anytime they get within 20 feet of Caristico. I also thought not seeing Magia Blanca’s Michinoku Driver out of the corner until late in the 3rd was a great way to build tension and belief that Soberano Jr. might not kick out. Really great placement of that spot, both guys had great corkscrews, but Soberano Jr’s is just on another level. 

Caristico, Niebla Roja & Diamante Azul vs. Mr. Niebla, Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero

Who’s who?

Caristico in white, Roja in red and Azul in blue.

Mr. Niebla is the only masked rudo, Ultimo in green/black and Rey Bucanero has face paint on, black shirt with airbrushed tights. 

How’s the match?

Very Good, this is much better than expected. Perhaps they really wanted to put on a good show for Labor Day. This main event is one of the better Tuesday main events of the year that didn’t have anything on the line or a singles match. For a trios match that ultimately has no consequences this was really fun. Sometimes these feel so by the numbers, perhaps because of the weird teams the by the numbers wasn’t so obvious? I don’t have a great explanation, but this was a fantastic tuesday show.
