there is definitely a sadness there. that is sort of an inherent feeling when dealing with the dead, something that forrest has gotten used to. not gotten numb to, he still feels it, but he just knows that it’s going to happen. there’s a slow nod of his head.

“yeah, the world can be so cruel.” his smile falls. “it’s… i don’t always know what to think. sometimes i can get along with the idea that uhm. that maybe they’re… going somewhere better? or at least, something less haunting.”

because ghosts haunt, but the world haunts them right back.

“i just try to focus on what i can do for them, because we can’t… we can’t stop people from dying.”

Avoiding places like the hospital is ideal when dealing with things like this, but it's because who the fuck else dealt with shit like this? Jonathan feels as though he must be cursed at this point; constantly being pulled into the happenings the Upside Down brought upon their little town of Hawkins. Why him? Doesn't he have enough on his plate already? Hasn't his family been through enough?

He'll shake his head a little to bring himself back to the present. Though it's more like the sting of his wound being closed it what pulls him back. Okay, it's worse than a sting, but he's still trying his best not to complain. That is, until he's letting out a soft, quiet fuck under his breath. Jonathan doesn't complain much otherwise. Cursed or not, he's still just the faintest bit lucky this injury wasn't far worse. It's what he gets for jumping into to help against a literal monster that.. unfortunately isn't dead, but it's still gone for now. If he'd still been bleeding all over the place? A whole other story with how those things were like blood magnets.

"Er.. thanks. Don't know how I would have explained this to the hospital." His mom, sure.. seeing as she knows about everything, but the hospital? "Definitely would have had to make something up.." And he's sure they realize why. Normal people weren't exactly exposed to literal monsters on the daily.. yearly.. or at all. "How are uh.. you.. holding up?" To knowing about those things now, he means.

Nadine had never appreciated the existence of a mute button more in their life. They should have recognized the difficulty they might have shutting up when they had first gotten the invitation to be here, they thought it was way too fun to say no. And the chair he gave them allows them to roll around the room and fidget, so it’s not sitting in quite the same way they had thought it would be.

“So, do you just play music all day? Or is there other stuff going on, too?” It’s been a while since they’ve listened to the radio. They could not give an exact estimation of how long, because of the messiness of timelines. “Or… oh! Do you have sound effects? That would really liven things up, I think.”
