This second volume of my series of tips and tricks for self-taught artists like myself goes out to the shoppers who hope the 24 colours watercolour box that costs easily four times as much as the basic needs will make their art more awesome right away. I think the more stuff you have the harder it is to master them - and you want to master something as soon as possible before feeling like you aren't an artist after all. Don't try juggling ten balls before three make sense, and look at artists who do awesome stuff with only ballpoint pens or tape.

Back to school shopping guide

🎒The first thing to remember and the most important is don't buy stuff just for the sake of buying. I get it, back to school shopping is one of the most fun experiences of September, it puts everybody in a good mood regard the beginning of the new school year, but why are you buying 10 new cute notebooks if you already know that you only take notes on your laptop?

🎒Buy stuff with intention. Make a list of everything you are out of stock of and add a couple things you would like to try to stay more organized if that's what you want, but keep your vision on the practical/realistic side. If you've been buying 3 different planner for years and you've never used them maybe is just not for you and it's ok, we all have our own methods.

🎒Remember that what you buy has to be functional, not just cute. Let me tell you a sad story: last year I decided that I was done with backpacks and started carrying around a burgundy bag from Stradivarius. Not even one month in and it broke under the weight of my laptop and books. I had to throw it away and to go back to my old backpack. Moral of the story: function is more important than look in this type of situations, and especially if you are someone that takes public transports and walks a lot during the day like me, what you carry around has to be good quality and resist the weight, weather and tension.

🎒Don't settle for stuff that you don't want. You can feel the need to because it is easier or because you want to buy all the items in one session but, unless what you want is just out of your budget or out of production and only sold from an unknown scam looking site, it is wrong in my opinion. You want a pink cover for your notebook from a specific brand? Don't buy a cover for your laptop until you find the one that you actually want. You'll end up being unsatisfied if you settle and that's just not it, you are spending money and you deserve to have a good comeback from it.

🎒If you live in a small place like me, try to go shopping in a bigger city if you have the chance to. Shopping in person hits different in my opinion and the wider range of options you have the more fun it gets of course.
