They had met during a career fair at the university she worked at. Quinn’s a Chemistry professor, so she was checking out some of the different booths to see if there was anything eye catching for her students to look into. She had gone up to the refreshments table to grab some coffee. It was packed, and someone bumped into her, causing her to spill her coffee onto the person next to her.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry!” She rushes out, grabbing napkins to pat the man’s now stained button up. “Someone pushed me, and-“
“Hey, hey, it’s alright.” The man smiled. “Wasn’t that hot.”
“But your shirt.”
“I can get a new one.” He smiles softly, trying to reassure Quinn that it was alright.
“At least let me help you clean up. There’s a gender-neutral bathroom downstairs, I can take you there.”
“Alright.” He smiles and follows her out. “I’m Harry, by the way.”
“Quinn.” She gets him into the bathroom and starts running some paper towels under cold water. “I feel terrible about this.” She says as she goes back to patting at his stomach.
“It’s really okay, accidents happen.”
“Are you running one of the booths upstairs?”
“My employees are, I was just stopping by to check things out. This is my alma mater, so I try to find excuses to come back when I can.”
“Aw, that’s nice. Where do you work?”
“I own Styles Marketing Group.”
“Holy shit.” Her eyes widen and her hands stop their work. “That’s a major company.”
“Mhm, built it from the ground up. I like hiring students from here as interns. I’m also a donor.”
“Are you always trying to sell yourself?” She smirks.
“Not intentionally.” He chuckles, grabbing some more paper towels to dry his shirt. “Just didn’t want you thinking I was some big wig scumbag. Are you running a booth?”
“No, I work here. I’m a professor.”
“Yeah? What department?”
“Chemistry; Dr. Quinn Johansen at your service.”
“Chemistry, wow.” He blinks. “I was never any good at that stuff. What courses do you teach?”
“General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, and then I switch off teaching BioChem and Physical Chemistry: Thermodynamics and Kinetics every other semester.”
“Oh, so you’re, like, smart smart.”
“Mhm, pretty much.” She smiles.
“Have you had lunch yet?”
“Don’t you need to get back up there?”
“Nah, I’d much rather take you to lunch.”
“I spill coffee on your shirt and you want to take me out?”
“Precisely.”
