For some reason editing a post using ShortBlogger now changes the date? I fixed a typo in the verbal-tics post last night, and now it says April 1st. But it’s retained all the notes, so it didn't just erase and repost it.

That probably is not something Tumblr should be permitting to happen?

The shortblogger app is really nice and quick compared to the tumblr app (at least that's my experience). But I can't reply to posts D: And I can't send fanmail and right now,  I'd REALLY want to do one of those things! Eugh! Need to start up the PC real quick for that...

And on another note, my phone's been trying to trick me into believing it's been 9.20 am for the last 20 minutes... Wtf?

So I'm using ShortBlogger now, I think it's much better. Look at that. I bolded and italicized that. Hell, I can even underline and strikethrough.

Accept that Tumblr mobile, like life itself, is full of suffering, moves too fast to grasp, and has no perfect solution. Try to approach it with a Buddhist attitude of non-attachment to any particular post or content. Bookmark washboard.ws/dash and download ShortBlogger. Use Washboard for reading and ShortBlogger for posting.

Separate app. There's an adware version and a paid version.

Best handling of animated GIFs. GIFs load a key frame and then you click on them individually to play them. Gifsets load fast and you can scan them quickly and see if you want to take the download time to watch them move.

Good interface. Easy to look at:

 - your dashboard (i.e. your feed)

 - your posts

 - posts you've liked

 - your drafts

 - your queue

 - your followers

 - people you're following

 - your messages

 - tags you're tracking

 - search by tags

 - popular tags

About half of non-animated pictures just don't load for me, though. Like, ever. But hey, how much of Tumblr is really pictures anyway?

Easy to reblog and to like posts while reading.

Easy to open up someone's tumblr, either by direct entry or by long press on one of their posts on your dashboard.

Easy to follow or unfollow someone.

Easy to click on a tag in a post and search that tag.

Holds your place for a while, like if you're reading tumblr and then you get an email notification you can switch to Gmail then go back to ShortBlogger and not get jumped back to the top of your dashboard if it's only been a little bit.

Easy to post text.

Easy to take a picture on your phone and share via app.

Can't "read more". Like if you see a long piece reblogged and it says "click here to read more"? You will go the rest of your life without reading that piece, because you can't click on that link, and…

Can't go to a specific post. You can go to the poster's tumblr and hope it's not too far back, but that's all.

You can long press the "read more" link and choose "Copy Url", but it doesn't work. Go to your browse, paste, and you'll just get whatever was in your clipboard before.

Crashes about once every two or three days.

Holy crap, how great is the ability to hide tags? SO GREAT.

Runs in your phone browser. Free.

Fastest image loading option.

Doesn't show you followers, people followed, your likes, your drafts, or your queue.

Click "new post" and it takes you to the Tumblr website. Publish a post or save as draft and it takes you to your tumblr dashboard in your phone web browser, which is terrible.

You can click through to specific posts. You can "read more"!

You can go to a specific person's tumblr by going to washboard.ws/blog/[specific tumblr blogname]. That'll get you a "+/- Follow" button, an "Ask" button if they have that enabled, and a "…" button that expands their header.

You can also look at your own blog.

You can both like and reblog posts, but some of the time the links won't work for some reason. When they do work, it's smooth and intuitive.

You can search tags by going to washboard.ws/tagged/[tag to search].

You can track tags by bookmarking that URL.

If you switch to Gmail or another app, then come back, you'll go right back to the top of your feed, so I hope you weren't looking at any part of your backread you were particularly interested in.

If some asshole embeds a video in their post, it'll float over the top of your screen and block everything else.

If you already use Tumblr Savior, you can import your blacklist from there.

But it's easy enough to set it up manually.

Crashes your browser once or twice a day. You'll never finish a full day's backread.

The official Tumblr app

I installed this a couple of months ago. I uninstalled it pretty quickly because it never successfully loaded a single image. But hey, how much of Tumblr is really pictures anyway, part 2?

In the interests of Science when doing this post I went to the Google Play store to reinstall it. When I tried, it asked for permissions including access to all the contacts on my phone.

Excuse me but fuck no, I do not want Tumblr seeing my entire address book. There is such a thing as privacy.

So that's all I have to say about that.
