I really love cache, and i can't find this clip anywhere, but this dinner party clip is really one to keep an eye on. It creates tension in this group dynamic in a really unique way. the sound design is odd... (no music, room tone seems fairly stripped out), and they have these really isolating closeups where the eyelines feel kinda wrong. it's GREAT. and def something we should copy. Shame and this movie are big on the copy list. I also really like the feel and texture of this movies' cine, compared to shame's. it feels a lot like a memory.

Another shame thing. sorta obvious and minor, but all the erotic stuff in this movie is just not titilating. it's presented so detached and beyond that it can't quite feel that way. the Joe posting nudes stuff has gotta feel like this. kaleigh should be the only hint of anything genuinely erotic. sets her apart.

Shame dump 1. I don't particularly love the lighting of this movie for mine... there's something that always felt a little too... i dunno... heightened unpleasant for me. The yellows and blues. Especially at his house at night scenes. something just always registered to me as too cinematically unpleasant. BUT i love the composition of this movie so much. I really like how alienated fassbender is in just about EVERY frame. And how most of this alienation is done with z axis depth, as opposed to width of frame. He's always on a completely differnet z axis plane from everybody else. often times put in shadow. evne the walking scenes they ensure theres people on different axises in the BG etc. It's REALLY good and smart. There's a lot of think about when we do this. IE Joe and charlotte def not on same level. Maybe Joe and kaleigh briefly are then aren't, then after the assault Joe is just all over the place away from everybody. I just think that distance and isolation should be done with depth, not width, of frame.

also it's really sorta weird to say, but the kinda incestuousness of him and sissy is a little in my head for Joe and Kaleigh. Obviously they're not actually related and there isn't as much tension but there's def a tension between them that should feel a lil gross

I really, really, really love this short. My idea for the car going to the wedding is bascially exactly this shot in the intro. The cine feels a little too DV for me... my head leans more towards 16mm on this one. but I do love the detached way in which it's shot for the most part. It's good, the vibes are good, and again this opening shot is exactly what i wanted to copy.
