I really didn't have another choice and it's not like I can do anything about it now. Not to mention what and who I decide to ride with isn't any of anyone's business but my own. I wasn't the one driving.

Black:  What's the most important thing you've learned from martial arts?--Be patient.  Everything in martial arts is a slow and life-long process to better yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  The fastest thing anyone will do in their martial arts career is go from white belt to black belt.  From there, the road is long and extremely difficult--full of ups and downs, trials and triumphs, straights and turns, and everything in between--and never ending.  It may take 7 years for you to get from white to black belt, but it will not compare to the 50+ years some of you will wear your black belt and continue in your journey.

Purple belt: did you ever feel like quitting?

Actually yes. I would never believe it now, but around the time I was a green belt I was getting tired of the repetitious nature of karate. That was about 2 years into my training and in my dojo my sensei has always made it clear that getting your green belt is a turning point in our training. Everything you do needs to be harder, faster, more precise and with more repetitions and greater expectations for skill. That meant sensei would ride you harder and give more criticism to help you out. It was hard, realistic training with more gain for getting through it. I was tempted to drop karate and do baseball “full time” with my spare time. BUT I kept going back. I hesitated to go to class, but would always keep coming back. Pretty soon the tables turned and I was addicted to the hard training. It wasn’t much longer when I realized I was committed and wanted nothing else but to keep training and improving. So here I am 10 years later. :P Sorry for the long response!! I tend to ramble about karate!
