A simple door, but anything but quiet. Painted a blue so saturated it nearly hums, it stands in stark contrast to the flaky pale texture of the wall that tries to contain it. This isn’t just about color—it’s about contradiction. Color against decay. Boldness framed in neglect.

I shot this handheld on my smartphone. The day was overcast, giving me soft, even light—no harsh shadows, no highlights clipping across the texture. Smartphones don’t always handle extremes well, but here, the conditions played into the strengths of the sensor. The door holds its depth; the plaster gives up its story.

I framed the shot dead-center to honor the symmetry, but it’s the wall’s wear that steals the perfection back. Moss at the base. Plaster pulling away to reveal old brick and stone. That tension—between order and erosion—makes it even more compelling.

In post, I cooled the whites a touch and gave a light lift to the texture around the doorway. I used a Curves adjustment on the blue channel to give the door a bit of extra pop, not that it needed a whole lot.
