Smartphones are killing me
Listen, I know that we live in a fast world. We have all the information available at our fingertips, and intimate knowledge of all the problems in the world via the news (which is somehow always bad or using scare tactics) and it's just. Too. Much. I feel constantly on guard with all of this knowledge, unable to relax. I am constantly on my phone, if not reading, then looking at TikTok or Instagram or Twitter for hours while the day passes me by and then at the end of the day I not only have done nothing, I also have a headache from too much screen time. It's a real addiction. I've been thinking about what I might do for a solution to this problem without completely disabling myself - ie, unable to use a GPS, look up addresses, etc. My current thought it that I want a flip phone. I was a child the last time flip phones were big - I distinctly remember the Motorola Razr (the pink one) being very popular with older cousins, and so I recently looked into maybe getting a refurbished one of those. Pop on my Ugg boots and a babydoll top and just really take it back to Gilmore Girl era style. Alas, no networks support old flip phones. I myself am on the Verizon network, which only supports flip phones with 4G and 5G capabilities. First of all, what the heck. I feel like it isn't asking too much to support whatever old phones, so it is just a money grab. But I digress. The "dumb" phones they do have available all have 1 star reviews and there are few options from brands no one has ever heard of. Of course, if the Motorola Razr truly is what I was after, I could get the 2019 edition, which is a flip phone smart phone hybrid - aka, a smart phone that folds in half. Cool, but not what I'm looking for. I currently have an iPhone XS which I got nearly 2 years ago, so it is nearly paid off and then... I'm free. I graduate college this Spring as well so I think, after I get a job I might make the switch to a flip. Not sure exactly what flip, it's really too bad it can't be a 2005 Razr, cause that's what I really want... oh well. I think that in the next decade people might really realize the problems that come with smartphones, I feel like I am really starting to feel it in my own life. Who knows, maybe quarantine has given me clarity.
