Thinking about Jou and Hirutani and the black box of their past. Were they friends before they were gang members? Who were they before this?did they protect each other? (Hurt each other?) Did Jou witness an angry, desperate scrabble to the top of the dog pile? A calculated march? Someone charismatic enough to lure a dogpile into being under him? (Did Jou aid him?)

What was Hirutani’s role as a friend? I wonder if he was kind. If he cared about Jou. If he convinced Jou that they were friends and this is what friendship looked like

I wonder how much of Hirutani haunts Jou, what hard learned lessons dog him to a different school and different friends no matter how hard he tries to shake them.
